  7. Dan Lanning was one of the best first-year head coaches to come out of the 2022 class, while Mario Cristobal’s Year 1 at Miami can best be described as a flop. That was the assessment from ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, who handed out his end-of-the-year report cards for first-year head coaches this week. Lanning earned a B+ grade from Rittenberg after leading Oregon to a 10-3 record. Cristobal got one of the lowest grades of the 29 coaches, a D- Among first-year coaches, Dan Lanning scores high grade while Mario Cristobal flops SATURDAYOUTWEST.COM Dan Lanning was one of the top first-year coaches in the country in 2022, writes Adam Rittenberg. 8. Dan Lanning is no fan of stats. He said as much this season when discussing their value. However, for those of us covering the team, end-of-season stats can provide greater understanding of the strengths and weaknesses a team possessed. With that in mind, the Duck Territory staff has pieced together nine stats that we think told the story of the 2022 season and could do the same next fall in 2023. For this DT Roundtable, myself, Matt Prehm and Jared Mack have each selected a good stat, a bad stat and a stat we think will be key for the team's success next fall. To avoid possible overlap, we have conferred with each other, so unlike past versions of this article, don't expect to see any repeat answers. With that, here are nine stats from the 2022 Oregon football season we believe are worth knowing. 9. “I don’t really have a finalist but I guess you can put Maryland, South Carolina, USC, Oregon and Michigan,” Harbor said. “The main three factors going into the decision are academics, athletics and track. That’s it.” "While the Ducks entered the race late, and may not be seen as the leader in the clubhouse to land Harbor, the world-renowned track program at Oregon is sure to tip the scales a little bit. Harbor also has been impressed by what Dan Lanning is doing on the recruiting trail with the Ducks." Oregon Recruiting: 5-star Nyckoles Harbor discussses interest in Ducks DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM 5-star Nyckoles Harbor wants to play football and run track in college. 11. The first week of the new year has given us a great chance to get a closer look at some of the top recruits in the 2023 cycle, and for fans of the Oregon Ducks, that means that a lot of news is coming in about the new class coming to Eugene this spring. Among the most notable players drawing buzz this week is Oregon’s 4-star QB Austin Novosad. After flipping from Baylor to the Ducks on signing day in December, Novosad comes to Eugene with hopes of being the QB of the future for the Ducks. Novosad suited up for practice at the All-American Bowl on Tuesday in San Antonio, Texas, and he was able to turn a lot of heads, being ranked as the No. 1 QB on site, according to On3. 12. "The Oregon Ducks are currently searching for defensive linemen in the transfer portal, and now that the bowl season has now passed, more high-profile options have started to become available. On Tuesday, we reported that former Texas A&M Aggies freshman DL Anthony Lucas had entered the transfer portal, and he could become a target for the Ducks, who recruited him hard out of high school. Another prominent DL entered the portal on Tuesday, and a report from 247Sports shows that Oregon is definitely working to get him to Eugene." 13. "For the Oregon Ducks, it was a successful year, with Dan Lanning leading his squad to a 10-win season in his first year in Eugene. The Ducks met expectations and are now set up for an incredibly bright future. Before we move on from the past, though, we want to take one last look at where the ESPN Football Power Index ranks the Ducks. All season we’ve been using the FPI — a tool that measures a team’s true strength on a net point scale; expected point margin vs. opponent on a neutral field — to give a view of things that’s different than the College Football Playoff rankings, or the Associated Press Top 25." 15. Dennis Dodd: "No. 11 Penn State's 35-21 win over No. 8 Utah marked the end of an era. It is the last time the traditional combatants in the Rose Bowl will meet for the foreseeable future. In fact, whether the Big Ten and Pac-12 ever face each other again in Pasadena will be a matter of coincidence. In the end, the sky opened and rained on the Rose Bowl. Some would say it wept. After the 2023 season, the Rose Bowl will be a College Football Playoff semifinal. So only by chance will a Big Ten and/or Pac-12 team play in the game. For different reasons, beginning with the debut of the 12-team playoff in 2024, the same circumstances will apply." 24. CB ETHAN NATION (Photo: Andrew Ivins, 247Sports) Rosewell (Ga.) High cornerback Ethan Nation will get the day started by making his college selection shortly after ESPN comes on the air. The 5-foot-10, 165-pound Nation had a strong week of Under Armour practices, and he said making his college choice on a big stage was always a dream. Nebraska, Auburn, Houston, Ohio State and Oregon are in the mix, he said, but his only official visit came in mid December to Nebraska. "I’ve always wanted to see what schools have really wanted me for me, and what schools just wanted me as a backup plan because they didn’t get guys they didn’t want on signing day," Nation said a few days ago. "That’s why I’ve wanted to wait for it.” Announcement: Prior to kickoff
  25. Thanks for sharing this, agree about Woody. Which is interesting considering the athlete's comments he's made about his mother's intentions. Though Oregon's facilities for both football and track could be compelling factors to convince him and his mother Oregon is the school of choice.
