  1. Commitment Preview: Decision Time For Dylan Williams We're less than 24 hours away from the college commitment of Dylan Williams. The 2024 Long Beach (Calif.) Poly linebacker will make his decision on Friday at around 1:30 pm PT on the Rivals YouTube channel. He'll choose from a top five of Michigan State, Oregon, Miami, UCLA and Washington. Here's the latest that I'm hearing on Williams as we close in on his announcement. He may be working from a top five, but for my money this is down to Oregon and Michigan State. And from what I'm hearing it's a VERY close battle. I made my predictionfor Oregon back on June 22. I'm not ready to change my pick, but I'll say I'm not feeling as confident as I did when I wrote that piece after seeing all this smoke around Michigan State. Maybe that's all it is. Smoke. But either way I can tell you the Spartans are contenders. It's also worth noting that 247 national analyst Greg Biggins logged a prediction for Oregon on Thursday. Furthermore, Oregon linebacker target Kamar Mothudi is going to making his college commitment on July 11. He took an official visits to both Oregon and Michigan State as well and the Spartans are making a strong push for him. Mothudi and Williams are good friends and both play their 7on7 ball with Premium Sports in the Los Angeles area, so I think the idea of teaming up again in college has some appeal to both players. That said, I've felt very good about where Oregon stands with Mothudi for a long time. Michigan State has made a strong push for both of these guys, but the question is: is it too little too late? Or did they enter the mix at just the right time? https://www.star-telegram.com/sports/college/article277088313.html#storylink=rss
  2. Where SMU stands with Pac-12 after San Diego State's retreat back to MWC Pac-12 expansion has not gone as smoothly as many were hoping it would Despite reports indicating that the Pac-12 wouldn't have their media rights deal done until July, and the conference president himself saying that the conference wouldn't expand until the deal was done, San Diego State still pulled out a questionable move. They essentially alerted the Mountain West whether it was their intention or not, that they were leaving the conference. The consensus around the country is that they were hoping to secure an invite to the Pac-12, and avoid having to pay the $33.5 million exit fee. Unfortunately for them they didn't receive an invitation, and they are now left with three options moving forward. While most of the attention has been on them and rightfully so, as they may have even tried to force the Pac-12's hand a bit, many are wondering what to make of SMU. San Diego State has long been viewed as the perfect candidate for Pac-12 expansion, and SMU has been right there with them. We know that the program out of Dallas has interest in joining the Pac-12 and the feeling was at one point viewed as mutual, but they have been much more quiet about expansion than San Diego State. Pac-12 insider John Canzano recently provided an update on where SMU currently stands in this whole ordeal. Assuming they learned from San Diego State's mistake, SMU likely won't inform the American of their plan to leave until they know it's a for sure thing. In order to leave they would have to pay the AAC an exit fee of $10 million and also provide a 27-month notice of departure. A fee that could come down as the commissioner, Mike Aresco, has revealed he's open to negotiating with a program that is leaving. July is expected to be a big month for the Pac-12, and also provide some much needed closure on this wave of realignment. https://www.si.com/college/stanford/football/where-smu-stands-with-pac-12-after-san-diego-states-retreat-back-to-mwc

  4. Who’s Next at EDGE for Oregon? Oregon recruiting was dealt a significant blow on the recruiting trail on Thursday as 2024 Tucson (Ariz.) Salpointe Catholic edge rusher Elijah Rushing committed to the Arizona Wildcats, spurning the Ducks after they had long been considered the favorites for his commitment. Oregon would be smart to stay involved and continue recruiting Rushing until signing day and I fully expect that to be the case. With Rushing electing to stay home and play for Jedd Fisch, Oregon is still looking for a difference maker that can get after the quarterback. Read Below to find those players on Oregon's radar. https://www.bnd.com/sports/college/article277083148.html#storylink=rss
  5. The Now Famous Home of the Ducks is Unique in Many Ways There’s nothing like approaching Autzen Stadium on gameday and seeing the giant O there to greet you, whether you’re using the North or South entrances. The atmosphere is electric, and the stadium boasts one of the best seating layouts in the country, with no obscured views and no true “nosebleed” sections. With the weather changing so drastically during autumns in Oregon, you could end up seeing a game in blisteringly hot conditions or bundled up against freezing rain…and everything in between. It is just about everything you’d want from a college football stadium considering the size of the school. 7. I am so excited to be arriving in Eugene for this game! Go Ducks! JD PicKell circles USC at Oregon on his calendar “This could be the game of the year in the Pac-12, and it’s USC at Oregon. This could be a Pac-12 title preview, because remember now, the Pac-12, no more divisions, they just take the top two. 8. Head coach Dan Lanning has the ball rolling in Eugune, securing 10 wins in his first season. There are high expectations heading into 2023, with the Ducks looking to compete nationally. On3’s J.D. PicKell is looking further down the line though, wanting to buy stock in Oregon. His main reason is how well Lanning is recruiting early in his tenure. Lanning has plenty of SEC experience when recruiting and has brought the same mentality with him to the Pacific Northwest. “Long-term, I am buying stock in Oregon,” PicKell said. “I’m buying stock in Oregon for a few reasons. The first of which being — they’re going to recruit. How do I know they’re going to recruit? Because Dan Lanning in a very short period of time has proven he’s going to recruit. He doesn’t care where he does it. He’ll go anywhere to recruit. I understand what he is saying about our safeties last year, but the defense will be different this year going forward. I will elude to Charles write up entitled "Has the Portal Solved Oregon’s FREAK Problems?" This defense is being built to attack in layers. Excited to see what this team will accomplish this year and beyond! Why fans should by stock in Dan Lanning at Oregon - On3 WWW.ON3.COM On3's J.D. What caught my eye is this excerpt from Sportskeeda from Caleb Gebrewold who supposedly gleamed it from Canzano's article "San Diego State Stays Put....For Now" Not sure what all Canzano said since it was behind a pay wall. Insider John Canzano explains the financial windfall of 2024 The Pac-12 is the only Power Five conference that remains without a long-term media rights deal. The conference will face major changes in 2024 as the UCLA Bruins and USC Trojans will leave for the Big Ten. Furthermore, the College Football Playoff will expand to 12 teams from the current four-team format, giving more programs an opportunity to reach the postseason. Take a look at how that could affect the media rights deal below. How could the College Football Playoff expansion affect the Pac-12 media rights deal? The College Football Playoff will expand by eight teams in 2024 as the field grows from four to 12 teams for the first time. John Canzano recently explained how the expansion could affect the Pac-12 media rights deal, stating: He added: While the conference has had just two appearances in the nine years of the College Football Playoff, that could certainly change with an expanded postseason field. In 2022, two schools finished outside the top four but in the top 12 of the final rankings. Pac-12 media rights delay due to 2024 College Football Playoff expansion? At this time no news outlet has any insight as to what is going on. Pac-12 conference is silent on the media front. But we can look to Insiders, like Canzano and Wilner, who most likely be the first to know. At this moment what we can get excited about is the future of Oregon football. Oregon is a national brand with the seventh largest fanbase. We've got a great head coach in Dan Lanning who believes in this brand. He is building a national caliber team through recruiting and the transfer portal. He knows what it will take to get us to the promise land called the "12 team playoffs" year in and year out. 14. 'You can really lock in and focus;' 5-star Aydin Breland is sold on Eugene atmosphere In Eugene, Oregon, you aren’t going to find the atmosphere that you would in Los Angeles, Miami, or even Columbus. The nightlife isn’t as active, and the glamour isn’t as present. For some high school recruits, that may be a turn-off. For others, it could end up being one of the main selling points. Of course, Oregon has a ton to offer. Between Nike, the uniforms, the unreal Autzen Stadium experience, and some of the nicest facilities in the nation, it’s not hard to sell a high school prospect on life as a Duck. Another underrated thing that Oregon has going for it is the relatively low-key Eugene environment. It’s not a large city with a crazy club scene on the weekends; you have to drive a couple of hours north to Portland in order to find that. In Eugene, you get a chance to focus on football and school without a bunch of unwanted distractions. For 5-star defensive lineman Aydin Breland, that’s a massive bonus. He recently spoke to 247Sports about what he likes about the Ducks and mentioned that for himself, the opportunity to block out all of the noise and focus on his craft is what stands out about Eugene. Oregon Recruiting: 5-star Aydin Breland digs Eugene’s low-key nature DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Eugene is not Miami, nor is it Los Angeles. For some recruits, that low-key college town atmosphere is a major selling point.
  15. Very promising prediction numbers for the Ducks. Good Read. What are realistic expectations for Ducks' final recruiting ranking in 2024 class? At the moment, the Ducks have the No. 8 ranked class in 2024. They have been as high as No. 6 on that list over the past couple of months, but recruiting is a fluid game, and teams are moving up and down the leaderboard every day as players announce their commitments. What I want to do here is take a look at what I think realistic expectations for the Ducks’ final 2024 recruiting ranking could be. There are a handful of 5-star players and a long list of 4-star players that Oregon is recruiting heavily, and should they commit to play in Eugene, then of course this could be the team’s greatest class of all time. Is that realistic, though? Likely not. So let’s go through some of the biggest names that the Ducks are targeting, and try to get an accurate prediction on where things will end up when all is said and done in the 2024 class, Lanning’s third official class in Eugene. Oregon Recruiting: Realistic expectations for Ducks final 2024 ranking DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM Oregon has maintained a top-10 recruiting class throughout the 2024 cycle. If they hit on their remaining targets, how high in the rankings can they finish?
  16. Oregon offers emerging tight end prospect in the 2024 class The Ducks have extended a new offer to an emerging tight end prospect Oregon's coaching staff already holds verbal commitments from two prospects projected to play the tight end position in their 2024 class. So it was interesting that after evaluating a prospect at one of Oregon's football camps on campus the Ducks extended a scholarship offer to yet another tight end prospect in the 2024 class. After camping in Eugene last weekend, 2024 tight end and unranked prospect Kade Caton out of Manvel high school in Texas landed a scholarship offer from the Oregon Ducks. Caton announced his offer on Social Media. Oregon offers emerging tight end prospect in the 2024 class 247SPORTS.COM The Ducks have extended a new offer to an emerging tight end prospect.
  17. New team dethrones Ducks at top of Pac-12 recruiting rankings Recruiting is an incredibly fluid subject to cover in the world of college football. So when you take a look at updated recruiting rankings on any given afternoon, it’s important not to get too high or too low based on what you see — the rankings often flip and flop daily with new recruits announcing their commitments. The national rankings certainly flipped on Tuesday afternoon. While the Oregon Ducks have stood atop the Pac-12 recruiting rankings basically from the start of the 2024 cycle on, that changed after the USC Trojans picked up a couple of blue-chip commitments to bolster their class. Both 4-star S Marquis Gallegos and 4-star IOL Makai Saina joined Lincoln Riley and the Trojans, bumping USC ahead of the Ducks for the first time this year. Take a look at where everyone now stands in the national recruiting rankings: Oregon Recruiting: New team dethrones Ducks at top of Pac-12 rankings DUCKSWIRE.USATODAY.COM There’s a new team on top in the Pac-12 recruiting rankings. How long will they stay there before the Ducks jump them again?
  18. What's interesting in this article is this: "The difference with expansion this time around — opposed to expansion of a decade ago — is television market. When the Big Ten added Rutgers and Maryland, the big draw was the New York City and Washington D.C./Northern Virginia television markets. This time around, it’s all about properties and football potential. Television markets aren’t as important because of streaming platforms and viewership moving away from cable. More than anything, it’s about the new Playoff that begins in 2024 — a 12-team format built to benefit those conferences who can qualify the most teams. The distribution specifics for the estimated $1.5 billion annual payout are stilling being negotiated, but it will likely be a system based on units. The more teams in the Playoff (and the more wins), the more units (see: money) earned. Translation: the Big Ten wants football-playing schools with a strong history and investment (facility and academic) in the sport. That leaves a specific group of schools on the radar." If I am looking at this correctly, what he is saying, next time around a school will not be determined their worth and or limited to the city media market size. Rightfully so! What I underlined above are the reasons Oregon will no longer be limited by the Portland media market alone for its value.
  19. Student-athletes will now have more freedom to be released from their signed letter of intent based on new rules issued by the Collegiate Commissioners Association. The CCA announced Tuesday that student-athletes will be granted a release from their letter of intent without a penalty if the school with whom they signed changes head coaches. 20. JacQawn McRoy, 4-star OL and Oregon target, sets commitment date JacQawn McRoy is almost ready to make his college commitment. McRoy will announce his decision on July 1, he shared Tuesday afternoon. He’ll be picking between a group of 4 finalists: Arkansas, Ole Miss, Oregon and Kentucky. 21. 5-star EDGE announces commitment date; Oregon Ducks thought to be favorites The Oregon Ducks currently have the No. 7 ranked recruiting class in the 2024 cycle, and they’ve reached that status without the presence of a 5-star recruit in the mix. That may be changing in the coming weeks. 22. Da’Jaun Riggs Shifts Into Decision Mode Following Oregon Visit Oregon is pursuing a small group of talented ballcarriers in the 2024 recruiting class. With Phoenix (Ariz.) Mountain Pointe running back Christian Clark announcing his commitment to Texas last week, the Ducks hosted Washington, D.C. St. John's running back Da'Jaun Riggs for his official visit. He spoke about the impression Oregon left after making it out to Eugene this past weekend. "After being down there, bringing my parents down there, seeing everything--it most definitely jumped up," he said about the Ducks. "It was amazing for me and my parents. Just being down there and the atmosphere of being in Oregon. It was a great place to be at and I most definitely would love to go back there." What were some of the highlights from his official visit? "Coach Dan Lanning's house. With Coach Lock (Carlos Locklyn) and Coach (Will) Stein the offensive coordinator, sitting down, talking and eating." Oregon's seen a lot of talented running backs come through Eugene over the years, but the coaching staff's vision for him could include more than being a traditional back. "Their vision for me is I'm very versatile. I can play more than just running back," Riggs told Ducks Digest. "They see me getting over there and being a major impact on the offensive end. Being able to catch, run and maybe sometimes throw." https://www.bnd.com/sports/college/article276801541.html#storylink=rss
  23. As we all talk about on this forum, I believe it's essential that both SDSU and SMU be invited to join the Pac-12. SMU is comparable to USC in so many ways, except for the brand at this point. SMU has positive growth values for the conference. SDSU is strategically important and needed for the conference. Five things you need to know. Chris Schoemann is the executive director of “The Boulevard Collective” — SMU’s high-octane donor collective. I spoke with a number of wealthy donors for a piece I wrote last week and came away thinking that the buying power of the school’s collective is a threat to some the top entities in the Pac-12. If the Mustangs are invited into the Pac-12 via conference expansion in the coming days or weeks, where would SMU’s NIL collective rank when it comes to wealth? Turns out the folks at The Boulevard Collective have studied it. Said Schoemann: “It’s behind only Division Street. That’s where we are.” Oregon’s collective has billionaire Phil Knight backing it, among others. Last year, I was told by one UO donor that the initial buy-in for Division Street, Inc. was $500,000 and that didn’t get you a say in who the collective did business with. Schoemann told me that the SMU collective was included in the analysis done by consulting firms trying to gauge whether the school was a good fit for the Pac-12. Geography, campus culture, academics, media market, brand and some other criteria certainly matter. But if the Pac-12 is trying to figure out how competitive the Mustangs might be right away, the health of the collective offers a glimpse. Schoemann told me: “We have had good feedback. believe SMU is being analyzed in a number of ways and we’re part of the component.” Canzano: A whale, two wins, a bag of money and a meeting of the minds WWW.JOHNCANZANO.COM Five things you need to know.
