“Avantae didn’t play as much on Saturday, that’s obvious,” he told reporters when asked about Williams. “I think, look, Avantae is a good dude. He really is. Known him for a long, long time. Recruited him at the other place".
He used to do the same thing when he was at Oregon. He always referred to Alabama as 'the place I was at previously'. Used to drive me crazy ( I don't know why) but why not just say ' I recruited him when I was at Oregon'.

Looks like Orgeron is already laying the groundwork to be his replacement.
My perception as well. I think there is a reason Ed is hanging around Miami. I know one of his son's is an asst there but I am guessing Ed has his eye on that job.

Dilly has a five star QB coming in next year. I think he has the luxury to wait.
The NCAA has not weighed in on ASU yet and they may get hit hard. I can't imagine Dilly wants to start out with that mess.
He could sit for another year, build some more cred and possibly have some better choices.
Just my two cents.

Thanks East Bay Duckdad for a great post.
How long has it been since we were able to say this:
Oregon out schemed and out toughed BYU.

I agree with you Augduck. The Oregonian’s newest Sports columnist Bill Oram’s take on Oregon football is definitely a bit irritating, and he almost took glee in rubbing Oregon’s (and Phil Knight’s) nose in the dirt after the Georgia loss.
I guess Oram’s job is to be controversial, like Canzano before him. The good news is that since Canzano left the Oregonian, I’m enjoying reading his daily column more than ever.
yes, that is what I thought too. He seemed to like portraying PK and Oregon as the evil empire and OS as the clean, apple pie and Mom operation in Corvallis.
Side note, I heard that at the OS home opener which was well after the debacle in Ga that the OS band played Georgia On My Mind.
-
Agree that OS is definitely taking some steps forward. They are playing better football for sure.
I could see them beating WSU but not so sure about USC. I saw only bits and pieces of the SC/Stanford game and SC did look decent. Their defense did allow Stanford 600 yds of offense so that is interesting.
OS also travels to Utah and I could honestly see them losing to both SC and Utah. Just my guess at this point and nothing more.
-
Agree that they are factoring in home field.
If the game were in Provo I would be really concerned. I am still concerned but hoping the home crowd is revved up and Autzen is loud.

There is a new guy at the O, Bill Oram and it seems he has sort of taken Canzano's place as the featured sports columnist.
I have read his work several times now and wow, maybe I am wearing my green and yellow glasses when I read, but sheesh he sure does seem to have a love affair with OS. He seems to always find a way to get a little dig in at UO in every column and today's was really interesting. I normally take all that stuff with a grain of salt and chuckle but there seems to be a pattern.
Any others seeing this or just me?
Not much in the grand scheme of things but it has struck me as a little interesting.

I agree. My biggest positive takeaway is that the lopsided score allowed for a lot or reps for the backups. Under the previous coaches, I suspect that it could have been two score game at halftime under as they would have used the game to demand 'physicality' by repeatedly running it up the middle. So, starters would have have to stay on the field for longer meaning more chance for injuries and less reps for younger players.
Also, is just me, or does the OL play seem more cohesive this year relative to the past couple years?
It seems that way to my untrained eye.

Thank you for saying this. Much appreciated.
The game has been beaten to the proverbial pulp by both local and national media.

Well reasoned post Hayward. I get in the heat of battle things get said. We all do it but some of the stuff yesterday was off the scales.
I mean we had complaints about the coach's attire for pity sakes.
It's very easy to coach from the comfort of our couches and see a replay 3 times and then make a decision or decide a different play might have been better.
No doubt we were all disappointed but some of the commentary was a bit much and based on one game against a team that very likely could repeat as national champions.

Remember, we don't see practice and we are certainly making a lot of assumptions..... Just saying

Our friends from the south have been throwing us a bone, folks.
Take note to the number of GA faithful that have politely advised us to be patient. It’s takes time to develop into the program we think we should be today. If parity hasn’t gone the way of the dodo already, it’s right on the threshold. The rich have made themselves richer and GA has an abundance of wealth.
It’s tough not to pile on with negative criticisms first thing on overreaction Sunday’s but we're being counseled by others that have been down this path to, “Hang in there, you got the right guy”. I'm sure DL and his staff are going to be critical of themselves and grow as a coaching unit as the team develops as well.
I have my thoughts on what I would like to have seen differently during the game, but perhaps I’m better served by staying in my lane and by just being a good team supporter. After all, right now, that’s what our team needs.
Very well said. Kudos to you for your sage and wise words.

Yes, there are rumors and rumblings that Mario's and Feld's acts were wearing thin. I have never been able To specifically confirm it though.
There have been rumors that a number of the wide receivers would have transferred out as well . Again unsubstantiated.
One thing that was interesting to me was on media day almost every player talked about football being 'fun again'. 'Fun again' being the operative phrase.

Yes, Chip Kelly called the plays, but I’m nearly certain Mark Helfrich did not call plays unless forced to; Scott Frost called plays in years with some of Oregon’s most prolific offenses:
Helfrich, Lubick To Call Plays In Alamo Bowl

(Eugene, OR) -- With former offensive coordinator Scott Frost gone to Central Florida, Oregon...Clearly water underthe bridge at this point but I was told by multiple people inside the AD that Frost did not have as much playcalling responsibility as some thought.
Again hard to look backwards but the people who told me certainly would have known.

Watching Oregon beat Georgia is a WAY better start to the season.
I like Frost and root for him. He was OC for some of the Ducks’ most prolific offenses.
In fact, since Frost was here, there’s been an inverse relationship between recruiting and offensive performance. So one might argue that Frost can develop and coach offensive talent better than those that followed him who benefited from higher rated talent.
It is hard to recruit to UO compared to other big-time programs. I’ll admit WT, MC, and DL (so far) have made it look easy, but I think it’s a lot harder than it looks.
Respectfully, I will disagree. Chip was calling the plays.
When MH was the HC he called most of the plays as well , because quite honestly Helf and Frost did not get along at all and Helf did not trust Frost.

Crepea is quite full-of-himself, and I can tell you from what I've heard from others....many of the other journalists..."do not care for him."
This is consistent with what I have heard and to DL's credit, he's far more patient with JC than Mario ever was. The veins in Mario's neck were bulging Everytime JC opened his mouth.

And as you said, DL is "tight lipped" on this stuff.
He shuts down James Crepea every time he asks about who the starting QB is, haha.
I was a bit stunned today when he didn't shut down the question (maybe because it came from someone other than Crepea) and even said Connerly might be playing sooner than later.
He sure shut Crepea down today and I'm there for it!

Huge Wilner fan. For many years he's been the best reporter in conference on Pac 12 business and operation. Highly sourced and reliable. John C now rivals him on those fronts.
As for Wilner's sports predictions, he leans a little into Bay Area teams but nothing like the starry eyed sportswriters in Los Angeles. Have we seen even one story yet tackling the immense displeasure among UCLA alumni about the team's attempted escape to blizzard country? I live here. Waiting.
I am mixed on Wilner. There are some aspects of his reporting that are good and others that are weak.
His deal with Oregon goes back to the Chip days when at one P12 media day he asked Chip a really, really dumb question and well, we all know how Chip disliked that sort of thing and he dissed Wilner. Jon never moved on from that. He referred to Chip as the Darth Vader of the P12 and oh boy, did Jon love the l'affaire de Willy Lyles. I believe at one point he predicted the death penalty for Oregon as a result of that dalliance.
The nadir for Jon was the game at Stanford when Andrew Luck was in the running for the Heisman and Oregon was playing them on the farm. The Ducks came out in the first half and were very lack luster and based on accounts from various players Chip 'lit them up' at halftime and that included tipping over a table in the locker room. The Ducks came out on fire in the second half and won. Wilner never got over that because he predicted a blood bath for Oregon with Stanford running all over them.
Every year when the Ducks make their annual pilgrimage to the Bay Area Jon sees a big win for either Cal or Stanford.

He always predicts that Oregon will lose to Stanford or Cal. That's his deal. It's like clockwork.

From the Bleachers: Kenny Dillingham’s ‘Gimme Shelter’ Offense
in Our Beloved Ducks

Oh my- Drex and Charles, you made my day. I am a Stones fanatic and Gimme Shelter is my all time favorite. I still get goose bumps when I hear the opening riff.
Kudos to you, for the stellar comparison. Anytime there is a reference to Gimme Shelter it's a good day.
Let's hope that storm is threatin' every Pac 12 teams life. In the famous words of Jagger and Richards:
