Maybe Will Stein is the guy to help him. Hard to say for sure. I hope so because TT seems like a really nice kid and it's not hard to like him. He always comes across as courteous and sincere based on the interviews I have seen.
There is also the possibility that Mario simple chased him because of stars. That seems to be more apparent everyday.
I was privy to a discussion among some well connected 'boosters' and one of them made the comment that Mario's inability to really evaluate talent is showing. I was not in a position due to the setting to ask the person to elaborate but the comment stuck with me. Maybe it will become more apparent at Miami or the flip side is he will be very successful and develop the talent. I have my doubts but certainly will own up to it if proven wrong. Note, no ill will intended on my part toward Mario, but it seems that a lot has come to light recently that has certainly given me pause for thought.
Anyway not an intent to highjack the thread about TT. Hope he does well at the camp and becomes QB2 that can be relied upon.

This certainly is interesting.
Have heard from a good source that there are some whispers in Corvallis that DJU MAY NOT get the starting job. There seems to be some vibes that Chiles who is a dual threat guy COULD beat him out for the #1 spot. Again some conjecture here but might be something to keep an eye on.

Is this because they got all the guys Washington and USC did not want or in the case of UW would have not qualified academically any way???? Just wondering.

At this very moment it's hard to disagree vehemently BUT I also think the DUCKS will be in the mix.

It was an interesting post. Hard to tell if he was just in a reflective mood or something is/was afoot. Mario hired him and he is one of the few remaining staff members that were retained so that post certainly does give pause for thought.

Whew- there's a whole lot in that husky rant that is downright painful. Their standard mantra when they lost someone on the recruiting trail to UO was that he was 'NOKG'. Then they moved to verse two of the song which is always that Phil is paying people. They were sweating bullets when Junior Adams left ( 'why would be want to go to Eugene' was the cry and it quickly became 'he never was a good coach anyway'). Now we have again moved the goal posts and the new iteration is that DL was protected by Kirby and is in over his head.
There's just so much prowess and creativity in dawgland I can't keep up. Waiting patiently for the next verse.

I think Ty is a really good example of what is/was the biggest issue with Mario. He likes guys with lots of stars and his ability to evaluate if those stars are really warranted is very flawed. We all know the star system has it's pros and cons but I think Mario used it as his most important metric.

I was heartened to see much improved LB play....quicker reads and reactions to get in position to make plays and solid tackles.

Good interview. John did his best to get info from Dan about Bo's injury and Dan did not bite on his ask. Gotta credit John, he tried multiple ways to get the info but Dan was resolute.

Forgot to add to my previous comment, things were a bit sparse in Corvallis on Saturday as well from the pictures that I saw.
I did notice that John C tried to 'enhance' things a bit in his column on Sunday by saying the there was a 'good crowd'.

Yes, they are really trying to make it a 'big deal'.

To add even more fun to this topic, there seems to be significant concern in dawgland that they will have such a spectacular season (CFP is a lock) that the SEC or NFL will come calling and DeBoer will jump ship for another job. Yes, this is true.
I have a husky friend (who is very sane and rational and even he laughs at some of the nonsensory that emanates from Seattle) and he told me this is currently a topic of discussion on many of the message boards in the land of purple and gold.

We are now on Duce's radar, warm on the watch front, where we use to be off the chart. Anyone have any news on a visit, just saying, I wouldn't count the Lanning charm out. The position is WIDE open.
His signing date April 1st, could Oregon be the joker in the deck?

2nd, totally agree D and special teams must improve. Something on the D-side of the ball was missing last year. I hope in the 2nd season of Lanning guys on D will 'get' Lanning's system and play to their potential. Thanks for suiting up for Oregon but Sewell seemed to be often missing in action last season.
3rd, It would help the cause to find a quality TE out of the portal. The 2 TEs portaling out respectively to Miami and USC hurt the depth of the TE room. Nix needs an athletic safety valve TE; especially with 4 new starters on the OL.
Thanks again for the great take.
Don't you mean UCLA as that is where Mototavo transferred if I remember correctly.

I think Lanning's culture is definitely taking hold. Various sources have indicated that with the exception of one player( I honestly don't know who but could venture a guess) there was no disappointment on the part of the coaches regarding the departure of many of the players who hit the transfer portal. According to some, there were a few players last year who had not bought in for whatever reason and wanted to do their own thing on the field. Fact or fiction, hard to say but at the same time not out of the realm of possibility.

I think it would be best if Bowen just left well enough alone. (not that he cares what I think) There have been lots of stories out there about why he did what he did but if I were him I would practice the old axiom of letting sleeping dogs lie.
The issue about the time thing on the paperwork goes back to the old days when Gary Campbell had JJ Arrington sign before actual signing day which back then was after midnight on the first Weds in February. Yes, clearly dredging up the past and that is not my intention, but I know Oregon is hyper vigilant about that because it resulted in both NCAA rule changes and punishment (at the time) for Oregon.
-
I too have heard that both Bellotti and Brooks think DL is the real deal. Both like him a lot.
Not to dredge up the past but have heard from the same source that MB and RB were NOT fond of Dan's predecessor. 'Nuff said'.
-
Agree that all of this is very difficult. Again, we don't know what Lanning was initially told that triggered his (and AD and University administration) decision. We will likely never know all the facts as DL is extremely private about some team matters and rightly so.
Now that the additional information has come to light and Holden is not going to be charged Dan has a decision to make. Maybe he has already made it and instead of doing some sort of public thing he is just going to move forward. One thing I have thought (and I have no inside knowledge or intel) is that Lanning may not say anything and when spring practice opens and someone poses the question as to Holden's status Dan may simply say 'he is a part of our team'. That could be a way of just moving on.
-
Word is that the body cam video showed clear evidence TH was NOT the aggressor hence no charges filed.
I don't think the presser (if there is one ) would be awkward. Lanning has been pretty good about owning mistakes and no one will fault him for saying 'based on facts presented at a specific point in time a decision was made. New facts and information came to light and I have made the decision to reinstate Holden based on that'. The other thing is it may not be a presser but a statement issued via the AD. Just hunches on my part.

There clearly is truth to the 'whispers' that Mario is very hard to work for. People who live by the axiom that 'it's my way or the highway' USUALLY quickly learn that doesn't work. Apparently it's taking Mario some time to figure that one out, or as stated above he is choosing to look away from what he sees in the mirror.
I heard a conversation in the club at Autzen last fall that I recounted as I read this thread. A couple of donors were talking and one of them commented that the conventional wisdom is that no one inside the HDC misses Mario for the simple reason he was very hard to work with in all aspects. Fact or fiction, don't know but I remember thinking about it as I was commuting back to PDX after the game.

some interesting names out there especially in the article from Duckswire. Will be interesting to see where Dan goes with this.
-
It's fun to watch them get all wrapped around the axel over this. Calling Lanning a frat boy while their 'coach' could not wait to get to LA and buy the glitzy house because being 'showy' in LA matters right????? Oh and by the way what was the score of their bowl game????? Now shortage of whining in SoCal today.

Not only did Dan Lanning beat Cristobal's record of 14 of the 4/5-Star players on Rivals, but smashed it by signing a total of 16, the third best class ever after only one year? The Ducks moved ahead of Clemson and Notre Dame and beat USC for the Pac-12 lead....thus far. (Duce Robinson yet)
Seems to be some 'word' out there that Robinson might delay his commitment.

I honestly think Dan and team know exactly what they are doing. Will there be mistakes, sure, there always are but I like the trajectory.
