  1. "Dan Lanning cut his teeth on the other side of the ball. Oregon is aggressive, but they don't take a ton of chances and make a ton of mistakes on defense. Lanning, from that Nick Saban tree, knows how to call a defense." I will go out on a long limb and say that unlike other coaches at Oregon from that Nick Saban tree (won't name names but you know) Dan knows how to coach and surround himself with people who he collaborates with as opposed to being a micromanger who can't get out of his own way.
  2. Mario was never able to talk about anything other than football for fear he would not be the smartest man in the room. Dan does not have that fear hence his conversations with John are more free flowing and Dan gives you a glimpse into his life away from football. Dan is approachable. Mario was not (in any way) and I say that from having interacted with both (not extensively in any manner but a bit personally) and had the opportunity to observe both of them in social settings and suffice it to say it was night and day difference.
  3. Have to agree Mr. FishDuck. Dan also seems to be very astute in his conversations with John. He knows exactly what to give him and does a good job of making John feel like he is really good buddies with him and John eats that up. Let's just say I think Dan has John pretty well figured out and he uses it to his advantage.
  4. Yes, heard the same with reference to the deceased. Also heard the part about Austen being confronted with the hammer. Have heard mixed stories on the alcohol. As you said lots more info to come out most likely.
  5. Fair to note that Ruiz is related to Mario's wife. I don't know exactly how but it's reasonably close, i.e. cousins of something of that nature. I also was recently told by someone with a line in the HDC that NO ONE in athletics was disappointed when it was learned that Mrs Cristobal would no longer be residing in Eugene. Apparently she was not well liked. No details other than no disappointment at her departure.
  6. Not sure it involved alcohol. I have heard that story is making the rounds but was also told this is a 'very nuanced' situation. Not sure what that means in the big scheme of things. Certainly time will tell.
  7. Mario....... hmmm, seems I remember that name. You mean Mario 'let me call a time out at the most inopportune time' ??? The same guy who always looked like the freshman who thought he was in Literature 101 but was really in Advanced French Existential Philosophy????? Yeah, I remember him
  8. This is beyond troubling. I know we spar with our Dawg friends and not always good naturedly, but this is beyond the game on the field. I tend (read try very hard) to not comment too much on these types of issues because it could happen to us. There was the episode with Traeshon last year and many people jumped all over Dan for acting too quickly. I don't know all the details of that situation but what I was told is Dan has very, very clear and strict rules on that type of behavior as I am sure all coaches do. The net here, this is bad and there are certainly some folks at UW who have some serious questions to answer. Hope the victims can move forward and find peace and solace.
  9. No that's Daschel's specialty. You know that evil empire 40 miles south ruled by Phil Knight. Remember OS, by their own acclamation in the TV add is 'built not bought'.
  10. Yeah, gotta wonder a bit here. Based on everything Daschel at the O says, Bray is the second coming of Nick Saban. The timing is a bit odd because they too are in the midst of spring ball and I would certainly assume he was the lead guy on the depth chart. Maybe to MSU with Smith?
  11. He is very close with Arkansas's biggest booster, John Tyson. Tyson is rumored to have pushed very, very hard for this hire.
  12. Samples will also have the title of Asst Head Coach thus giving DL the opportunity to pay him more than Locklyn so this is not a lateral.move for Samples. Something to consider, if Stein continues to have success he will get an HC job. That could open the door for Samples to become the OC. Lots of possibilities but I think shows how Dan thinks which is always what's next.
  13. There have been some whispers that Locklyn entertained conversations from both USC and Tennessee. The fact that he listened may have rubbed Dan the wrong way. As Hayward and Kirkland said it plausible there is some there there. We will likely never know All the details and that's okay. Dan has always said he is very supportive of his staff taking the next steps in their career. He always preaches 1% better and I'm sure he applies that to when he has to replace a staff member.
  14. One might say Dan's predecessor falls into the failing upward category.
  15. How would Chip and Campbell be involved? I know Locklyn had him at practice on occasion but not following how they would have been involved.
  16. Lock was not considered a great recruiter. Sure he got Whittington and Bucky from the portal. He got Limar and Dowdell from HS but Dowdell left because he knew he would be at least 4th on the depth chart this coming season. I was told his recruiting chops were considered below average by multiple people with contacts in the AD so he may have been looking around.
  17. tOSU's running back room is in pretty good shape. Not saying that means someone won't hit the portal but as noted the landscape has changed.
  18. Just going to add this for consideration and context- Mullens is very astute financially and has earned respect among his peers for that. That is also one of the reasons that his name surfaces when jobs open. Scholz also has deep background in economics - here is his bio for reference: Incoming President - Biography | Office of the President PRESIDENT.UOREGON.EDU My point is, I have to believe that both Mullens and Scholz along with others in athletics like Eric Roedl (who like Mullens is a CPA) analyzed this situation a million ways to Sunday. I am sure they had every possible data point possible and used every analytics tool possible to figure out the best path forward. Please don't take this as defending anyone or the process or even agreement with the final outcome. My point is I have to believe they considered all possible options and moved forward with the one that made the most sense from all possible angles for EVERYONE involved. I get the frustration of keeping the OS game on the schedule as opposed to TT and the big payout to OS and WSU. Imagine the optics if Oregon had said no way to playing that game. No one from OS WILL EVER admit it, but they need that game on their schedule way more than Oregon does and that rubs alot of UO people the wrong way too. It's the proverbial rock and a hard place and in the famous words of Bruce Springsteen, 'nobody wins unless everybody wins'.
  19. 30 years from now Canzano and Wilner will still be banging this same drum. John just can't end his OS lovefest. I am sure he is sending his love to Bray as well. BTW- the esteemed beav beat writer at the O, Nick Daschel yesterday asked his acolytes if they were cheering for the DUCKS since it meant money for OS if they won. My God, the replies were beyond pathetic. Take my word, only unless your are really truly beyond bored don't read the dissertations on X.
  20. Well, they will have plenty of time to ruminate on their sofas on Saturday watching every team but theirs! Their whining kind of reminds me of left coast USC fans.
  21. Kudos to Dana for constantly talking about the importance of leadership. Good coaches cultivate and develop team leaders.
  22. Parents don't want him at their house. Okay, sure. Of course they want to come to his house because, well he can show off the palatial mansion his sons bought him and his cars and his Louis Vuitton collection and his gold jewelry. All about the clicks. Dan was very prescient on this one.
  23. I thought of Barnes as well. Would not be surprised to see him make the move. Imagine the firestorm that would set off in beavland. I am sure the UW fans are putting a pretty face on this saying he simply could not pass up the opportunity to move closer to home. His football coach bolted (although he admitted to having an inkling when KD did not sign the extension) and the bball coach was recently fired. Lots of 'to do' items for the next person.
