"Recruiting me since I was a freshman."

I believe that is the difference between the Pleasant/Harbor recruitments, as Oregon was in there late with Harbor--while South Carolina had been recruiting him for years.

    (Well, that and the girlfriend...)

    Very likely the case.

  2. I get a bit nervous when these so called 'handlers' get involved.  Willy Lyles was considered an advisor and handler too.  I realize that was a much different time and there was no NIL, but it still causes me to pause for thought.  It may all be fine and I certainly hope it is.   Just my 'old school' thinking.

  3. Just my two cents here regarding the culture discussion that has spanned a few threads here.

I think the 'Lanning effect' is starting to take hold.  I reference the WSU game and the Holiday Bowl and even the Georgia debacle.   They (IMO) NEVER gave up in those games.   In the past you could certainly tell when they did and there are no better examples than the two Utah games last year.   We discussed ad nauseum those two but those will always stick out to me as games where they totally gave up.   I literally was angry watching the second half of that P12 champ game against Utah because it was just so obvious to me.   And as much as the former guy discussed 'family,  culture and physicality',  I am not sure they had a lot of any of those.   There were rumblings that MC and some of the other coaches were starting to ware on the players.

I think (and this is strictly and outsiders opinion) Dan also kept a hard eye on guys who he did not think would fit his culture.   I honestly think Justin Flowe was one of those guys.

We'll certainly know more next year but just my observations.

  4. This is where Malchow excels and why DL brought him to Oregon.   I think both he and Dan get it.

Not to speak ill of the departed, but I don't think the previous regime EVER got it.   The main guy was a star chaser.   I don't get the impression Dan is.   Of course everyone wants 5/4 star guys but there are diamonds in the rough out there too and I trust Dan's acumen for finding those far more than the previous guy.  I trust Dan to find guys to fit his system, not guys who are just 5 stars.  Evidence MIGHT be the guy from ASU that committed yesterday.   There were plenty of folks in the twitterverse who said 'what'.   We won't know for awhile but this may be an example of a guy who is a hard worker and wants to earn an opportunity.

  5. I think it's very cool.   He is marking the key points in his life and that's cool in my mind.  It clearly is a generational thing and as  astutely pointed out in another post, it's how it's done now.

I do wonder if Dan intended for it to be public.  Clearly he knew pics were being taken but wonder if he anticipated they would be shared publicly.   Maybe he did.

On a separate note, I have heard from several people who have gotten to know him over the last year that it is very obvious that his wife is 'his rock' so clearly see why she is prominent in the tat.

On another separate note I am SURE Crepea will ask him about it at some point. During the season Dan asked James why he did not wear shorts more often so his ink could be seen and James was the one of the first media guys to post about it other than the guy who did the actual inking.

Crepea definitely has an ego and it shows in his questioning. But, without him asking the hard questions we would get the same report from the coach every week. No one else asks those questions.

At least this way we can see/hear DL talk about his players. We learn how much he cares for this team. We understand how quick witted and intelligent Coach Lanning is. I for one enjoy getting to understand the coach this way. I respect him more by how he answers Crepea's questions than if those questions were never asked.

I'm not a fan of Crepea's personality either. But, his character flaws contrast nicely to DL's attributes.  This makes for some great quotes.

Certainly very valid points and I agree he does probe more than some of the others.

The most prominent names for the ASU job are Jim Mora Jr. and Bryan Harsin. Both make a lot more sense than Dilly, as it is unknown if he has the tools to be a head coach, as it is so early in his career at age 32.

Jim Mora knows the West coast, and understands the Pac-12 as he has led UCLA to a 46-30 record. He’s got UCONN to 6-5 this season after the single win in 2021 and two wins in 2019. (No 2020 season) He is really turning things around there.

UConn football coach Jim Mora comments on roster limit

1000% agree on Mora and Harsin.

I think Lanning will counsel Dilly to take the approach that he did, which was to wait for the right opportunity.   ASU may avoid serious NCAA sanctions due to the fact that they basically cleaned the house of the coaches who were involved in some of the mess there but they will likely get some sort of punishment.   A guess is a reduction in scholarships and some other administrative changes they need to make so for a couple of guys who want to get back to the P12 this job might be attractive.

The AD there has been known to make some 'head scratching' decisions so hard to say what he might do, but Mora or Harsin would fit  his  profile of possible hires in my opinion before KD.

Oh, I think they're getting better and better with that.  Lanning, if he's half the coach we hope he is, has got to have them focused game-to-game looking forward.  This is a different team than the one that flew down to Atlanta and got the cold water thrown in their face.

    Agree 1000%

    According to Google:

National Lampoon’s Animal House , has been a prominent name in Eugene ever since the movie was filmed on the University of Oregon campus in 1978.

Their greatest hit, “Shout,” has been played on DuckVision at Autzen Stadium since the 2010 football season, and is now played on KnightVision at

Matthew Knight Arena during Oregon basketball games.

I can't find info on when players started dancing though.

It started when Taggart came and MC allowed it to continue.

I personally wondered when it might be something that would get a coaches' attention

ASU is a dumpster fire first and at the bottom of the Pac-12 -- and it's a long way to get to being in the top half of the pac-12 for that program.

Dilly is in his first season as an OC out from under a head coach mentor in Norvell and Malzhan. I think he is better served staying at Oregon and proving he can field an elite offense alone under out from under offensive HC wings.

By doing that he will build up Cred that will help him draw in sone decent coaching staff. He isn't a Broyles award finalist Coordinator coming off a Natty like Lanning.

I also think if he waits, he can get a better gig that's not a dumpster fire.

Agree and as others have said ASU is a mess.  He's got Moore coming next year and can possibly build his resume and wait for something better.

  11. Lots of issues at BSU according to 'insiders'.   Don't know any specifics but have heard via some message boards things are not copacetic with Andy.

There is/was some reason Da'Vell Winters left.   When AA got the job at BSU he made Da'Vell chief of staff.   Then late last year Da'Vell was on Linked In looking for a job.   He is now Director of Player Development at FAU working for Willy Taggart.

After all the OBD FishDuck comments and articles I've seen, I am convinced if MC would actually let his staff do their jobs knowing they will mistakes at times, he could have a national contender in a short time.

But, he'll never get there under his current game philosophy, which results in a high turnover rate.

Moorehead took a huge step down. I don't blame him. But, the real question no one may ever know is what caused the hospitalization right before last year's Stanford game?

I do feel sorry for Mario, but his pride is hurting himself and a lot of other people.

Not that it had anything to do with his hospitalization before the Stanford game last year, but Joe and Mario were not getting along at all even before that.   Something happened, not sure what but something changed.  Multiple people have said the same thing.
