Great questions, Dazed! Great analysis, too. Hopefully, Lanning is learning what was done wrong on defense v. OSU(AND,….UW, WSU, UCLA….). If that’s the case, though……and I hope it is……..it’s kinda sad he has to learn on the job….OUR job……while we incur unnecessary losses because of it. Welllll…..the best we can hope for is: it all pays off, with long-term high football success in the very near future. BUT…….in the meantime: UW and OSU, were lost only due to unnecessary defensive incompetence. And….WSU was only won because the masters of “Cougin’ it”, out-Couged us.

My best guess is: Beav’s O-line was/is waaaaay superior to our D-line. But…..where were our gap-filling linebackers? Flabbergasting. Does not compute.

IMHO: A fan is a fan. Just depends as to what kind. Maybe winning just brings out the “inner” fan. Either way, we root for the Ducks to perform well, and win……and are disappointed when they don’t.

I think FishDuck will remember this: wasn’t there an even worse/even More impossible loss? An Away game vs. Cal? At Cal? I think it was during the Belotti era: The Ducks were up 40-0, and ended up losing 41-40? Anyone remember this earlier fiasco in Duck football history?

Okay, let’s bring it back. It’s a football game between the State’s two top major college D1 teams(sorry, PSU), for “football supremacy” in the State. It’s akin to two forces fighting for one supremacy. Like a Civil debate, a Civil disagreement, and……a Civil War. There’s been a myriad of “Civil Wars”, throughout history. Should Spain rename their “schism”, “the War between the two sides?” Cuba? China? Vietnam? ”The war between the two groups who disagree?” No! The annual game between UO and OSU is, jokingly, tongue-in-cheek akin to a Civil War between two parties. That’s all. it is a very apt description, and……..nothing more. It has nothing…..not a scintilla…..of anything….to do with the U.S. Civil War. We understand the good intention behind the idea to do away with name of the football game……and appreciate the intention…….but it’s misplaced, and unnecessary. Of course, your mother meant well when she told you to wear your “Jackie” when it’s 68 outside, but……it’s really not necessary! Much ado about nothing! You wanna call it “the Civil War”? Be my guest: ain’t nuthin’ wrong with doing so……

It IS a “civil war”! That’s why it’s called that. A Rose is a rose is a rose. And, the name and the game have nothing to do with the U. S.Civil War. Much ado about nothing!

Thompson did not botch the toss. Thornton failed to catch it. The trick play was too much for Thornton, not Thompson. nonetheless…..good things don’t seem to happen when Thompson is in. Must be very frustrating for him. I hope the “snakebite” leaves him……soon!

“What if Thompson shines?” That would be a wonderful “problem” to have! We’ll gladly take ALL the “shining” we can get!

I agree 100%. Oregon’s pass defense is virtually non-existent. Sadly: not championship caliber. Thanks to Nix, o-line, and our running backs, we are fortunate to be an 8 win team. Must get our defense fixed, if this program is to sustain at next level.

The Coaches didn’t let Thompson do anything. It would’ve been nice to let him get some experience in his pass game, but……who knows? Maybe they didn’t want to risk injury to their receiving corp.

I’d be pulling for Herbert’s idol to win. I wouldn’t be surprised if Herbert would be okay with it too!

Georgia absolutely dominated the Ducks in the first game of the season. Is the Gap between the Nation’s No. 1 team really that vast? Or……..was it more the case that Lanning’s Ducks just weren’t yet ready and prepared to play a quality game at that time? What do you think?
