Jon Joseph Moderator No. 1 Share Posted May 4, 2023 OK, this is from our buddy Dennis Dodd but with ESPN's recent layoffs and parent Disney's financial difficulties this does, unfortunately, make some sense. See - Oklahoma and Texas. BTW, John Canzano has called out this latest piece of media rumor-mongering as BS. I'm shocked that a B12 executive would have been referenced by Dodd, shocked. Sorry, but I think the new B12 commissioner while I respect his moxie is a flame-throwing huckster. Makes sense given his background. This is aimed at him and his B12 consorts and most definitely not at you and other B12 fans. What in the heck does one expect from an unnamed B12 source? Charles Fischer Administrator No. 6 Share Posted May 4, 2023 It is all crap, as two different sources reported that the CBS report is completely wrong. Canzano has confirmed in his article today that ESPN is in negotiations with the Pac-12 for Tier-1 rights, and because Fox still have Pacific time zone slots to fill....they too are still in negotiations with the Pac-12 for games. Throw in Apple and we have some robust discussions taking place. Thus, just about everything presented by CBS over the last couple of months is disinformation/false/lies. Sad to see how the ethics of political reporting has now seeped into sports. 1 1 Mr. FishDuck
NJDuck Moderator No. 7 Share Posted May 4, 2023 Agreeing what all is saying in here. Sorry all, John Canzano's article is behind a paywall, but the portion you can see is the following: The disinformation campaign aimed at the Pac-12 Conference jump-started again on Wednesday. CBS Sports reported from the Fiesta Summit spring meetings in Arizona that ESPN was “out” as a Tier 1 option for the Pac-12 Conference’s media rights. “Murky future,” said the headline. “If ESPN is not interested,” read the body of the piece, “… there doesn't appear to be an obvious brand-name suitor for the league.” Among the unnamed sources mentioned in the report was a “Big 12 administrator” who offered in a quote that this was the first time ESPN had publicly confirmed that it wanted nothing to do with the Pac-12’s primary rights. Trouble is, it wasn’t accurate. Again, this is all I can see. Canzano: Disinformation campaign vs. Pac-12 is tired WWW.JOHNCANZANO.COM Underbelly of college athletics is getting ugly.

HappyToBeADuck No. 9 Share Posted May 4, 2023 This Forum is filled with some sports saavy members. So as i read the article i kept asking myself this: Why would a sports network that needs prime and profitable content not want to be in control of a Power 5 Conferences Tier 1 rights? Why would ESPN not want that control with the most desired sport to broadcast, which is football? Especially when the PAC Tier 1 rights will be on the cheap? The PAC media rights will generate Profits for the media rights holder. I couldnt come up with any answer that made sense.....

HappyToBeADuck No. 11 Share Posted May 4, 2023 DUCati855, heres a Dodd's like headline sure to rank hi on the BS meter: PK And Wealthy Investors Offering To Help Strapped For Cash Disney By Purchasing The Sinking Ship That Is ESPN. Unnamed sources heard that the deal is contingent on ESPN dumping their high priced media rights package with the BIG 12. ESPN and the BIG 12 declined to comment. But referred us to their media professional analyst, DD. When questioned DD said he would need to consult his unnamed sources .......
