How About Some More College Football 'Journalistic' Nonsense?

Recommended Posts

Chris Fowler is pulling down $3.5M a year from ESPN and Pat McAfee is supposed to be making THIS amount of money?

And SSDD. Our buddy Dennis Dodd has an article up today citing the proverbial 'unnamed source' and predicting CU's departure to the B12.

Do any of these folks have a lick of business sense? ESPN/Fox is going to pay CU $31.6M a year, $190M over the length of the deal for the Buffs to relocate. CU is going to take less than BYU?

SMH.

Agree!  Did these people forget Economics 101 or Math 101?  There is no way CU will be getting $31.7M or any other Big 12 school if they keep adding more schools.

Unless Fox and ESPN are willing to increase the amount to accommodate any new school joining the conference to keep the level at $31.7M per school, CU joining the Big 12 would drop it down to $29.26M per school.  If Arizona joins it drops down to 27.17M.  If ASU joins drops down to $25.36M.  If Utah joins drops it down to $23.78M per school per year.

Like you said, I can't imagine any of the Pac-12 universities migrating to the Big 12 are willing to take a lesser share.

An extra $190.2M per school who joins the Big 12 for the life of the contract?  Good luck with that.

From Wilner:

"If the Pac-12 media deal is in the low $20 millions per school, as has been speculated, would Colorado and Arizona going to the Big 12 be the best thing? Then add four Group of Five schools at half shares? — @bogeycat85

Do not believe the speculation about a $20 million offer.

The Hotline doesn’t know where the Pac-12’s valuation will land — our guess is within 10 percent of the Big 12, which will earn $31.7 million per school when the renewal of its deal with Fox and ESPN kicks in.

But $20 million per school? No chance.

That’s below the current average annual valuation of $20.8 million for a deal signed 12 years ago. Even if you account for the loss of the L.A. schools, the market for live sports has soared since 2011.

The Big 12 lost Texas and Oklahoma and saw a 50 percent increase (approximately) in its media valuation.

The Pac-12 isn’t losing USC and UCLA and also losing 10 percent of its valuation — not with so many of the top 30 media markets in its footprint.

My understanding is that the Big 12’s media contract does not increase by $31.7 million per school if additional members are added. Do potential candidates know what revenue they will receive if they join the Big 12? — @Jalex0077

Endeavor, a media advisory company, is working on behalf of the Big 12 to lure Pac-12 universities, according to every source in our Rolodex. Exactly what Endeavor has told the likes of Colorado and Arizona, we cannot say.

However, the money would come from ESPN and potentially Fox as part of a negotiation with the Big 12.

But the Four Corners schools would need more than promises and hypotheticals. They would need contract offers."

I just don't see the advantage going to the Big 12.

Spot On NJ!

College football conferences do not print money.

So many people including the B12 commissioner are writing checks with their mouths and keyboards that will never be cashed. And spending money on a consultant(s) will not shield you from trying to foul up another conference's existence.

It's stuff like this that makes me want to, notwithstanding the late date, buyout and cancel the next 6 OOC games against B12 opponents that will get a boost from playing Oregon. With Oregon shuttled to ESPN 2 or Fox Sports 1.

For the 2nd season in a row UCLA and Michigan and this season, Georgia, are all playing garbage (OK, maybe not UGA vs Georgia Tech) OOC.

Pay some $ to G5 teams to drop their respective game against an FCS opponent. Play said school(s) in Autzen and add another 3 home games.

What do people not understand about the Disney/ESPN financial difficulties and why would Fox with the LA market wrapped up spend more for B12 inventory?

You nailed it. Have any of these folk ever taken Economics 101?

I'll definitely take the Over on a $20M Over/Under bet.

$20M is more rumor-mongering garbage.
