I also think it is an attempt to tattoo the backsides of the recruits with their patented indelible purple sanitation water. What you don't see is scholarship players waiting for the recruits to go so they can drop a rock in the vent pipe and tattoo the backside of the recruits purple. This is what they call fun up north.

 

The problem is this is what a privy looks like on the inside, up in dawg country.
