The Strength of the Future Pac-12?

Recommended Posts

I was pondering out-loud with Kamikaze Kid today about how strong the conference is this year....where Oregon is a Pre-Season No. 4, and Oregon State is No. 5?  Whew!

Whoever ends up as No. 5 in the conference is going to be a pretty darn good team, yet will be 8-4 to show for it?  Wowsa.

It got me to thinking about 2024, and how if you take off USC...the top five becomes a tough top four...but don't you think Arizona State might just fill in at No. 5?  Perhaps Stanford or Colorado later?

Those bastards coaching those top Pac-12 teams aren't going away, and they are good coaches.  This conference is going to be tough in 2024+ without the LA schools, and whether we have SMU or SDST or not, IMHO.

As John Smith said on media day he believes the conference is as deep QB-wise and top-to-bottom team-wise as it has ever been.

Chicken Littles like to create dust storms with their panicky upset. Who knows what the future holds? We do know we’ve got darn good teams. Let the dust settle; then decide.

I remember the last time sc was irrelevant (2009 until last year's hiccup) and we did just fine.

Looking for more of the same.

Almost every team QB loaded year, and next year, almost every team unproven.

From the 2023 Pre-Season rankings below...here is the breakdown of the number of teams in the top-25 by conference...

SEC: 6

Pac-12: 6

B1G: 4

Big-12: 4

ACC: 3

So the Pac-12 is really going to disappear?

So where is all this disrespect coming from?

How is it warranted?

The biggest question....is it really going to change in future years with the coaching in the Pac-12?

I think the B1G, the Big-12 and the ACC should STFU in light of the facts, not what the blowhard sportswriters say.

Even come 2024 there will be a good chance that the Pac-10 will have 40% of its member teams preseason ranked and ranked at season's end  In 2023 the majority of Pac-10 schools will play 10 or more games versus P5 teams. This season, only 2 SEC teams play 10 or more games vs the P5, Florida, and South Carolina.

Will we continue to see the football playoff committee's Pavlovian love of the SEC and Ohio State in particular? The SEC based on the on-field performance at least has an argument to stay at 8 conference games but the ACC? And someone best calls out Notre Dame for playing 12 games while all conference champs will play 13 games. It will be frustrating if ND keeps a 2nd Pac team out of the playoffs.
