Death of the PAC-12

Recommended Posts

I don't think there is anybody out there who is an alumnus of a PAC-12 university that ever wanted the PAC to go the way of Western Athletic Conference, which is now a hull of it's former self and no original members. The death of the conference really started when the conference didn't add BYU with Utah.

Having gone to both Oregon and BYU, no student body wanted into the PAC more than BYU and it would have kept the natural in-state rivalries that all of the other conference schools have. Expansion with Colorado at the same time could have included Colorado State, which has sound academics and could have improved its football brand in a better conference.

Then, when aTm & MIZZOU took off rather than focusing on Texas so much, OU & OSU may have been willing to split. The lack of a  proper media rights deal has stuck a fork in the conference and as soon as the Big 12 pulls the trigger on the 4-corners schools, the B1G will come in and scoop up what they want and they can claim they weren't responsible for collapsing the conference because the media rights and Big 12 stuck the fork into the felit, carved out a large chunk and the B1G decided to throw a lifeline to the schools that were left that they want.

I hope OSU & WAZZU are able to move into one of the power conferences because both schools are better add more value athletically to a conference than Vandy adds to the SEC outside of baseball.

Well, a bit premature unless you’ve heard something. If so, please post a link.

Frankly, it’s looking rather bleak for the PAC 12, but until another school bolts, there is still hope. As so many have written, Oregon is going to be fine regardless of how things play out. The same can’t be said for Oregon State and Washington State.

Not sure on the accuracy but a good conversation.

Here's a spot-on reality check for the B1G. Worried about destroying the Pac-12, you already destroyed the Pac-12.

Also, a take on the FSU being desperately wanting to get out of Tobacco Road.

The Big Ten left the Pac-12 for dead but doesn’t want to be the one to pull the plug on the conference.

The future looks bleak for the Pac-12. Here is where we predict all remaining teams would go if the conference crumbles.

I'd add, UNC, FSU, Clemson, and Georgia Tech to the SEC.

To the ACC - Notre Dame (as a most-favored-nation full-time football member - more $ for the Irish), UConn, USF, Memphis and Providence, Saint John's, Xavier, and Marquette as members other than for football.

It's anyone's guess, no?

it's amazing that the Big Ten only has one national championship since 2007.  Pac-12 and Big 12 has eleven and ACC has twelve.  SEC with thirty one.
