Ducks widely considered one of biggest winners on early signing day

Dan Lanning and the Duck cleaned up on National Signing Day with some saying this is the best class in program history after it landed inside the top-5 nationally for the first time ever.

Of course, only time will determine if that plays out, but according to the ratings, Oregon was No. 1 in the Big Ten, jumping in front of new rival Ohio State after Lanning was able to flip wide receiver Jeremiah McClellan from the Buckeyes, which turned a lot of heads.

Later in the day, Oregon also flipped 4-star WR Ryan Pellum from the USC Trojans, picking up another win over a conference foe.

The Ducks aren’t here to play. Several outlets nationally took notice, with several naming Oregon as one of the big winners on signing day.

Here’s what ESPN’s Tom VanHaaren had to say...

Where the Ducks' 2024 class ranks nationally after major signing day haul

The Oregon Ducks were once again one of the biggest winners of the early signing period, putting pen to paper for 25 recruits in the 2024 class and flipping a pair of blue-chip recruits away from rivals Ohio State and USC.

On top of that, Dan Lanning officially made history by signing the best recruiting class in school history, passing the mark that was set by Mario Cristobal back in 2021.

There’s a chance that the class gets better as well, with 4-star DL Jericho Johnson announcing his commitment on Thursday, where the Ducks are a heavy favorite to be the benefactors.

Oregon is also recruiting 4-star WR Gatlin Bair with great persistence, though his commitment won’t be announced until the late signing period in February.

So after all of the drama and fireworks on Wednesday, where to the Ducks stand nationally in the 247Sports national team rankings?

Here’s an updated look...

How the Ducks' 2024 recruiting class compares to the best in Oregon history

It’s been another year on the job for Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning, and another successful trip around the sun when it comes to the world of recruiting, both at the high school ranks and via the transfer portal.

The Ducks were one of the biggest winners of the early signing period, putting pen to paper for over 25 prospects, many of whom were blue-chip players coveted by teams across the country.

For the second straight season, Lanning has secured a class that ranks inside the top 10 nationally, and is stacked with players who can contribute right away.

But how does it compare to some of the best classes we’ve seen in program history?

Up until this year, the top-ranked class belonged to Mario Cristobal in 2021, with marquee prospects Ty Thompson, Kingsley Suamataia, and Troy Franklin.

To get a better feel for how this 2024 class compares to the best recruiting classes in Oregon history, here are the top-10 ranked classes Eugene has ever seen...

Dan Lanning details what 2024 QB Luke Moga brings to the table for the Ducks

“He’s one of the few guys I got to watch perform this season,” Oregon coach Dan Lanning said on signing day. “The first thing that stands out to you when you watch this film is his speed and how he can run.”

Moga was an exceptional track athlete at Sunnyslope High School, running a career-best 10.7 100m time as a senior. His ability to move precedes him, but what is most impressive is the work ethic that he brings to the table.

“This is a guy that’s, you know, really passionate about growing and developing,” Lanning said. “Eager again, like many of these guys have mentioned, to learn and get better and appreciates hard work.”

Coming into a program as highly touted as Oregon and standing apart as a true freshman isn’t something that is going to be easy, but based on what we’ve seen from Moga so far, he seems to have what it takes to make a name for himself in Eugene.

Based on what Lanning has to say about the young passer, the future looks pretty bright for him as a Duck...

8 incoming Oregon recruits who could have an impact as true freshmen

Vibes are high for the Oregon Ducks and their fanbase right now after Dan Lanning and Co. signed the highest-rated class in school history earlier this week, which ranks fourth in the nation currently.

That class of players coming to Eugene have elite upside, with many ranking inside the top 100 nationally, and several among the best players in their state coming to Eugene.

As we’ve seen during Lanning’s time in Eugene, young players can have an outsized impact on the team if they’re able to prove early on that they’re good enough, exemplified by the roles played by Matayo Uiagalelei, Teitum Toioti, and Blake Purchase in 2023.

So who will those guys be from the 2024 class that we can expect to have an instant impact next season?

These are a few names that we are keeping an eye on...

Five Recruits From Oregon's 2024 Class That Could Have an Early Impact

Oregon just signed its best recruiting class in program history. Keep an eye on these players to see the field early in their college careers.

Dan Lanning and the Ducks achieved a historic milestone last week when they signed the best recruiting class that Oregon has ever seen. Not too shabby for just Lanning's second full recruiting cycle as a head coach.

There are many questions that fans are asking coming out of the early signing period, and one of them is which recruits could see playing time in 2024?

Let's take a closer look....

Dan Lanning Details Plan for Kingston Lopa After Signing With Oregon

You don't find too many 6-foot-5, defensive backs, which is part of what makes him the one of the more intriguing players in Oregon's 2024 class.

Oregon signed more than 25 recruits during the early signing period last week and put a bow on the highest rated class in program history.

One of the more intriguing players in the group is Kingston Lopa, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound defensive back from Sacramento (Calif.) Grant Union High School.

But Lopa wasn't always destined to be a Duck. In fact, he was committed to Jedd Fisch and the Arizona for three months and initially chose the Wildcats from his 18 total reported scholarship offers.

After reopening his recruitment in April, he also considered schools like Tennessee and Washington before ultimately landing on Oregon.

If you just look at Lopa's frame, you can see why he has the potential to be special. There aren't many 6-foot-5 defensive backs at the Power 5 level, and there was some chatter that he might even play some linebacker at the college level.

During his national signing day press conference, head coach Dan Lanning provided some clarity for how Lopa's talents will play into the big picture for the Ducks upon his arrival...
