Solution? Expand to 16 and ditch bowls.

If for some reason we’re clinging to keeping the “LA Bowl Hosted By Gronk” alive, then just accept them for what they are, winter friendlies with unique rosters.

Make all NIL contracts to require post-season participation.

NIL require participation and provide insurance against injury.

And a non-internet doctor's excuse to opt-out.

Interesting take. I wonder if that rule should apply to coaches as well. So Johnathan Smith owes Oregon State for his salary for this year. As well as his assistants that left early.

Any coach who leaves before the bowl game owes his school the entirety of his salary. This has been going on with coaches for years few complained to this level.

No players opted out of playoff. And won't moving forward won't either. As we saw in the Washington game. They are one play away from not playing. Then the question just becomes for how long.

Why risk injury for the ( fill in the blank with the nobody bowl here) bowl?

I think that may already be taken care of in regard to the buyouts that are written into the contracts.

Mack Brown doesn’t let opt out travel to the bowl games. They’re for guys who are still on the team.

So … bankrupt players if they don’t play a meaningless bowl game? Just wow. Jonathan Smith, Mario Cristobal, and Kenny Dillingham get to get a pay raise to leave during the season but you want to bankrupt every player that doesn’t play in the “SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl”?

I am on the other side of this argument. Because of player empowerment which includes NIL, the extra year of development due to COVID, and the transfer portal we have had the most magical season of football yet.  We had 7 teams that could legitimately could be in the playoffs this year. Has that ever happened? The majority of labor relations changes in football has made the game better.

If we want bowl games to matter we need to move the transfer portal dates, make the bowl games part of the award’s criteria, make coaches sit out 3 years if they leave the team before a bowl game, and lastly fill the seats of bowl game’s stadiums.
