Good points Darren, thanks for posting!

One of the hidden costs has got to be physical and psychological stress factors related to constant and lengthy travel these athletes will be subject to.

Since school stress combined with athletic stress isn’t enough, let’s toss a whole bunch of flying time and hotel time at these kids, and see how they deal with it!

Time will tell, but I gotta think it will negatively affect young lives.

It sure will. The irnony is that the two major sports that drive revenue, football and men's basketball, will be the sports that get affected the least. It's all the non-rev sports that will suffer the most.

"As the other power conferences stretch across the country, I cannot help but think that the still “regional” SEC is kicking back and loving every hot and humid minute of it, smugly thinking, “Look at these clowns.”"

I think the SEC (and more importantly ESPN) is eyeing some ACC teams. Probably FSU and Clemson at least... And maybe Miami.

In terms of football the SEC is geographically blessed with loads of recruiting talent and high fanbase interest gives teams in their surrounding footprint high value.

No way that OSU and WSU will meet the ACC requirements for membership, at least before the ACC implodes. B12, maybe? But ESPN/Fox would have to find the money and believe these two to be accretive. To make this happen the Pac-2 could agree to lesser shares. Taking a media haircut for a few years would make sense with the Pac-10 $uckers money on hand.

Cal joined a P4 conference did it not? Cal didn't get as much money as UCLA because SFO is a bad market for college sports and the Cal administration has done little or nothing to fund and promote football. But UCLA owes Cal money? Think USC is happy that it's a private school? SC played Cal every season in CFB but is off to the B1G without paying Calimony.

Perhaps John Canzano lobbied on behalf of Cal. If the House case is settled will Cal be able to come up with $20M+ a year to fund revenue sharing? Ditto, UCLA? Will the administrations of the two schools agree to pay to play in the championship tier of CFB and Men's CBB? Is there enough booster money to pay the cost?

Extra cost to make sure the athletes are not brutalized by plane travel. When Minnesota played UW during the Gophers 3-year title run the round trip took eight days.

Thanks, Darren. Oregon is ranked No. 8 in portal pickings because Dan filled needs and not an entire roster.

You make a good point Darren, in that in the end....it was really UCLA that was the tipping point that destroyed the conference.  USC was headed out no matter what, but if UCLA stayed and we got 40 million?

The conference would still be intact.  But the Ducks would be making half of what they will make in the future at our new conference, and Oregon's exposure is probably tripled in the B1G.

So in the end...

Agree. UCLA just can't get anything right. And, their new football coach hire was uninspiring, to say the least.
