Charles Fischer Administrator No. 1 Share Posted September 6 Canzano had the tidbit below that ruined my lunch before I even ate it... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oregon State Athletic Director Scott Barnes said some interesting things this week. He’s adamant that the Pac-12 was still a “Power Five” conference. He believes that college football will one day split from Olympic sports, as Chip Kelly once suggested. And Barnes thinks it would be “ridiculous” for Oregon State to stop playing the Civil War rivalry in all sports, given that the schools are only 44 miles apart. Said Barnes: “There were a lot of fans that didn’t want to play that game, but if you walk in the locker room and ask the student-athletes what they want to do — they want to play that game.” Above all, Barnes indicated that a plan was in motion. “It’s like last year or anytime we announce a schedule,” Barnes said, “we wait for all the contracts to be buttoned down and in the hopper before we make an announcement.” Yes, and about that 30 Million they are taking from Oregon over 10 Years,... ...What Does Beavis Have to Say About THAT? He is doing his best "Champagne-Larry/Emperor's-new-clothes/Kliakoff's-we'll-have-a-better-deal-than-the-Big-12-trust-me-routine" as he has nothing else of substance to be able to say. I hope he is correct that the Pac will be back as an "Olympic sports" conference. But that still leaves the Beavs as a football team seeking a low hanging conference. I have put all the current Pig 2 in a blanket BS in my-life-is-too-short-even-if-I-live-to-be-a-thousand-years-old ignore category and let it roll off of this ducks back like the dirty bath water that it is.
David Marsh No. 4 Share Posted September 6 I like to look at it this way. If this is true the Beavers will forever lose to the Ducks in football as the programs continue to diverge at an accelerated rate. This will be a permanent L on their yearly record. Their players will loath Oregon more than they do now as they will see it as a hopeless endeavor every year. The Beavers may keep the Pac-12 money but if they keep the Ducks on their schedule, as they think it is a good thing for them financially, it will become a punishment. 30Duck No. 5 Share Posted September 6 (edited) The move to the BIG got one big thing right. Oregon's hated rival is and always will be, Washington. Playing the Rodents is like playing your little brother, if you win, it's 'Mom, do I have to do this again?'. If you lose, little bro shouts and runs around. Now, Oregon State is the last of the tune-up games, Washington is the season ender, the finale, as it should be. Duckley Palace No. 6 Share Posted September 6 He believes the Pac Twelves is still a P5 conference. Not only is it not P5 level, it isn't a conference. It's a couple of programs that the desperate ACC or Big 12 don't even want. Two programs that have no relevancy, they're trying to claw and grasp at whatever they can find. If Oregon wasn't playing them I doubt people could name two games on their schedule. I think it would be more exciting to see Oregon play Hawaii, USF, Memphis, San Diego State, SpongeBob, Charlie Brown or one of the former Pac 12 programs in the Big 12. Let the Beavers come with hat in hand after a few years with no Civil War Game.

woundedknees No. 8 Share Posted September 7 (edited) When my older brothers were in HS, I got to "play" ball with them... Mind you, I was a skinny, short for my age, grade school kid, while my brothers were both eventually collegiate athletes. One of my brothers was a 6'9 basketball prodigy who eventually became a 'shot doctor' for Clyde Drexler and Terry Porter. The other was a 6'6 moose. Their playmates were all bruisers, one of whom was a HS all American shooting guard. Compassion was not their strong suit. Football? "Here, kid, you hike the ball!" I was usually lined up across from the 6'5 power forward/linebacker... I bet you can guess how long that lasted! Baseball? I got to bat first, and usually was hit with a pitch or stomped trying to cover home plate... Basketball? I got a lot of pebble patterned facial abrasions trying for a lay up. Only advantage I ever had was I was always faster than all of them. Maybe the beavitch will eventually get tired of getting punched in the mouth. Don't hold your breath. TexasDuck No. 12 Share Posted September 7 All I know is that if this had all taken place 30 years ago, USC, UCLA, UW and probably Stanford would have gone to the Big 10, and we would have been relegated to the fringes along with the Beavers. It wouldn’t have felt good. I understand that have much more empathy for OSU than most others on this site. I just don’t think we should lose that perspective. 1
