Oregon Ducks Take Over Top Spot in US LBM Coaches Poll in Week 9

Recommended Posts

How ironic is it that it would be the Georgia Bulldogs to propel Dan Lanning’s Oregon Ducks to this position?

For the first time since 2012, Oregon will be the No. 1 in the country in the US LBM Coaches Poll. The Ducks moved up to the top spot after watching UGA go into Austin and methodically dismantle the No. 1 Texas Longhorns 30-15 after taking a commanding 23-0 halftime lead.

Who knows how often Lanning communicates with his own coaching boss Kirby Smart, but a quick thank you text might be appropriate here.

The Ducks are now 7-0 and will be favored in the vast majority of the games. Oregon was also ranked No. 1 when they had a perfect 12-0 season in 2010.

Oregon is still riding high after its win over Ohio State. The Ducks have already shown they can move on with the schedule with a dominating 35-0 victory over Purdue. A team such as Alabama proved that it couldn’t do the same thing. The Crimson Tide defeated Georgia and then went on the road the very next week only to lose to Vanderbilt.

Here’s the entire Top 25 US LBM Coaches poll.

Ditto - OBD No. 1 in the AP Poll. 😍

Texas, blown out at home and drops 4 spots. Boise State DNP and drops 2 spots. Indiana blew up a 1-loss team and moves up 3 spots. SIGH.

SEC - One half of the conference is ranked with 0 undefeated teams. UGA 2nd is righteous.

B1G - Five ranked. 3 teams are undefeated, 1. OREGON, 3. Penn State,  4 Ohio State, 13 (😒) Indiana, and 20 Illinois, a one-loss team that defeated a ranked Michigan team on Saturday.

Wins Just Mean More and Losses Just Mean Less in the SEC.

OBD have moved up the rankings to where the Target now rests squarely on their backs!

Right where they should remain as long as they remember, they are playing to be better than they were last week.  FEBU.

The Ducks are in the driver’ seat.

Ok, I am gonna step out and ask: Will Army and navy both be undefeated when they play? Who will win that one?

Another positive aspect of being ranked #1 is the impact on recruiting.

Coaches sit down in the living rooms of players nationwide and tell them that they are building a winning team. DL, and staff, are validating that they are building a winning, and national championship caliber  team.

We haven’t accomplished anything we haven’t already done before…but, it is exciting to see us back in the spotlight.

With the December signing day coming up, and considering how we are in it for some big recruits--the timing of this could not have been better.  Now, if we could remain in the top spot for six weeks...

Georgia should not have jumped OSU. That's just recency bias

It's like one fallacy builds on another. They beat Texas by 2 scores who beat a bunch of blue bloods with no offense.

If not sure Georgia has an offense either.

Too High? Too Low? On 11/5 We'll Know. 😁

Spot on. Miami too high. Indiana too low. Indiana and Army are the two playoff-eligible teams that have not been behind the entire season.

The Associated Press has spoken! As expected, we did see some changes to the AP Top 25 Poll after the Week 8 slate of games. With previous No. 1 Texas going dow

Oregon was dropped for not looking dominant in their first two wins, one of them against a top 25 team. Miami has been gifted 3 W's, against unranked teams, and they're No.6? Indiana at No.11, should definitely be higher than Miami. No.25 Vanderbilt, at 5-2, including a win over No.16 Alabama, should be higher than Miami. Alabama hasn't been great the last two weeks, but they're better than anu team Miami has played.
