Gosh, It Has Been SO LONG, and I Never Got Tired of It...

No, I'm not talking about that, but about looking at the polls. Haven't seen this in a dozen years, and it never fails to satisfy.  (The polls!) Would love to see this for a lot longer, and every year!

I'll be honest, it's a weird feeling, I think I saw someone else say in another thread that they felt like this was the first time Oregon felt like they might be the #1 team, for me it's sort of the opposite.  The last time we were #1 I felt like we we the #1 team.  I think despite how we've looked the last 4-5 weeks, the Idaho and Boise St. games still make me feel like we are a top 5 team, but not the #1 team.

I'm not saying we aren't deserving, we are definitely deserving of the ranking.  I think it's because we don't have the 77-7 type blowouts I get the feeling like we aren't quite as dominate.

I don't know, it's weird, the current team is such a different type of team compared to the Mariota years.  We are so much better on defense, but the offense is not quite at the same level, we also don't have the same innovation that we used to have, we are much more similar to the teams that we play, we aren't a novelty, we play pretty much straight up.

Honestly wanted Texas to pull it out last night since being #1 makes me nervous, it didn't go well the last time we had it.

The offense would be if we played the same way as back then, in terms of our philosophy at the time.

1. Back then, to make a two-team or four team Playoff...you needed style points and win impressively.  Not now, just win and get to the 12 team Playoff.

2. Lanning consulted with NFL teams on how to navigate the long season, since the Ducks could play as many as 16 or 17 games. He has changed his approach on many items as a result.

3. Instead of revealing this year's playbook right away and scoring more points, we are getting a lead and then killing clock to shorten the game and reduce the possibility of the other team having enough possessions in the second half to win.  This allows you to slowly unfold the playbook, and we are actually seeing that happen this season; a very slow-rollout of the offense, IMHO.

Steward caught it in spite of interfernce called.jpg

We didn't do this much until lately....and we will gradually see more of it.

This offense has massive upside remaining...IMHO.

Guess you didn't see this...

There has been so much written about Oregon football in the last couple of days, yet I sense there is a major element to the remainder of the season that…

I can understand this. But last night Texas didn't look like a dominant team Georgia was definitely the better team last night, but they got beat by Alabama, who lost to Vanderbilt and Tennessee. How about Ohio State? Nah. I don't think there is a truly dominant team this season.

Idaho, yeah, not so good. But Boise State's only L is to Oregon.

I miss the Mariota years too, up 42-6 at halftime was great. But they didn't it get done. They could never control the line of scrimmage, both sides against Ohio State, and outrush, out pass, out explode them, and as far as innovate. How about that onsides kick and the Lanning Rule?

Being No.1? I want the Ducks and the fans to get used to it.

Well stated 30. I can't help but think about how many recruits and future recruits are pondering that thought right now. The present and future are both looking potentially brighter than our glorious past.

I agree with that. This team isn't even close to its ceiling. The Summit is in view!

I thinke back on all the seasons I followed the Ducks as they slowly built from the nice little team that never had the depth to sustain the early glimmers of promise we occasionally glimpsed, to the emerging DUCK of today, and it gives me an odd sense of joy in the past... It is with a healthy dose of wonder that I clamber to the top of the tallest chair in the aging man cave to beat my chest and roar in my most powerful (albeitwheezing, sadly diminshed) voice, "WE ARE THE DUCKS, as if the rest of the years were but a brief, passing moment.

I (my 13 year old self) was there, at that very first loss to tOSU. I was there when mighty( ?) Notre Dame settled for a tying field goal, in the waning moments of what easily could have been a massive win for our Ducks. I witnessed an Oregon hero waving a broken fingernail proudly in the air after tipping a (UCLA?) field goal attempt. From the Toilet Bowl, to the program defining Wheaton Interception, and many of the glorious and ignominous steps in-between...

Yeah, WE. Are. Number ONE!!!

Let's bask in it, as long as it lasts!!

This is by far OBD's best team ever. With these offensive and defensive lines along with serious dudes at every position, they would have throttles 2010 Auburn and 2014 tOSU would have been the same dog fight we saw a couple weeks ago.

I love the optimism but suggest that we wait to see how the season plays out before proclaiming the 2024-25 Oregon football team the best in school history.

We have had some really good teams over the past couple of decades but have never "gotten over the hump." My personal favorite Oregon Ducks football team was the 2007 Dennis Dixon led team. I had no doubt that that team was the best team in college football and would win the national championship, before DD crumpled to the turf with a knee injury.  Devastating.
