Should Penn State jump to No. 1 in college rankings if they beat Ohio State?

This 2024 college football season has brought out the best and worst in many teams. Through the months of September and...

 

 

WHY? Because they beat West Virginny or had a close win vs. Kent State and won at Wisconsin? OBD has a better resume.

 

Meanwhile, the Ducks defeated a ranked Boise State and both would have defeated Ohio State. Oregon defeats Michigan on Saturday and PSU defeats Ohio State: 1 OREGON. 2. Georgia, 3. Penn State.

DUH...

Depends on how much they win by. Win by 10+ and they have a direct comparison against tOSU.

Article states OBD have two wins over ranked teams. I count three but whatever. Sure let 'em have No. 1 if they want it. The Ducks have bigger goals.

• Oregon at Michigan. Oregon is on a roll, but Michigan has been able to get some close wins at home. Oregon 27 - Michigan 28

I think that if Penn St. were to somehow dominate tOSU and win by 3 or 4 scores they might think of moving them to 1, but maybe not even then.  I see the Ducks staying at 1 so long as they keep winning.

This^^^ If Penn State hammers them, then yeah, fine. But Oregon got 61-62 1st place votes last week. If the Ducks win, they stay.

Wait…..are you saying Boise State, a team that just struggled to beat UNLV, would beat Ohio State?

You know...maybe that would be best?  Let Penn State be No. 1, and it gives our players motivation hammer them in the B1G Championship..

 

I just want to win the next four games first.

HUH? I'm saying that in the latest AP Poll Oregon has 3 wins over ranked teams. A far better resume than Penn State. 

 

But come Tuesday, the AP Poll will be yesterday's news. I expect Indiana will be in the Committee's top 10 and Mizzou will not be ranked. 

 

I am not saying that Boise would defeat Ohio State, but I don't understand how that is relevant to Penn State's ranking. Boise is a top-25 team that was defeated by OBD. FACT. Not speculation.

Thanks……I was scratching my head, trying to picture Boise beating Ohio State.

Depends on how the game goes, if they win by two scores, then yeah I don't mind them jumping us.  Ultimately it's a who cares situation, we'll probably play Penn St. in the championship game if they win.  

 

Really, who cares, it doesn't matter who is number 1 right now, it matters at the end of the season.
