Augduck No. 1 Share Posted November 5 Dan had some fun with James Crepea last night during his presser. James asked about the last TD and Dan said he was sure DUCK fans were appreciative. He then commented "I know James was one of those guys that got excited. I got your back James". James retorted " I never wager on sports". Dan replied 'good to hear. I'd say that's a safe decision all the time'. 1

David Marsh No. 3 Share Posted November 5 Just as a fan, I was happy they got that last touchdown. I know the betting lines are great for well... betting but don't really matter in the grand scheme of the football season. It was just nice to see the Ducks score closer to 40 this game against a pretty sound defense. 1
Grandpa Duck No. 4 Share Posted November 5 One thing I did not understand. Before the snap on the TD play, Duck players were looking toward the bench and motioning thumbs down. That could mean any of several different things, like we don't like the play you sent in to kneel down, or maybe we want to take a knee. Or, it could go back to the Roman Ceasar in the coliseum and the indication when Ceasar wanted the victor of the battle to kill the defeated opponent. What do you think? 1

I wish it was the Roman Caesar celebration, but unfortunately no. That thumbs down has been the defense celebration all year and is starting to make its way to the offense. (I hate to even say this... but this came over from Washington with Jabbar Muhammad). The celebration basically means on defense "I put you in a box and shut you down". So for the offense to be doing this at that moment in the game my guess is the players were not wanting to kneel down, they were wanting to punch the ball in and finish them. Take a look this next weekend and you will be seeing a whole lot of thumbs down from our players. Edited November 5 by QuackyQuack
Fitnessczar No. 6 Share Posted November 5 Interesting comment by Dan. I hears folks talking on a sports radio show about coaches that "help out their fans". They brought up Nick Saban as one. Maybe Dan has taken the same approach, when appropriate.
Notalot No. 7 Share Posted November 5 Into the final seconds of the game I was sitting on the number - Ducks 31 Wolverines 17 with 385 py in the Fishduck.com predictions. I was confident at the 2 yard line that the Ducks would run out the clock. Wrong! But I am always happy when OBD score. So the call and TD made me happy even though they blew my prediction.
30Duck No. 8 Share Posted November 5 It's a bit pathetic I know, but after Full of KLATT said he finally thought that Oregon would cover at Michigan I really wanted them to, and they wouldn't have if the Ducks had taken a knee. I also liked it because as Kamikaze pointed out in another post, running up the middle is how it's done in the B1G.

It was a reference to Russell Crowe's Gladiator. Essentially, show them no mercy.
Geetz Romo No. 10 Share Posted November 6 I don't believe Lanning going for the score had anything at all to do with "help out the fans" if that means covering the spread. In fact I'd bet on it! I think he let the offense go for it because they had such an unproductive 2nd half - only a FG - and he wanted to give the players, and maybe himself, the small extra satisfaction of strong and productive final drive.

Watch this week's US vs Them segment. They took the concept of going into the Big House and converted it into gladiators stepping into the arena. That's exactly what the thumbs down was all about. 1 1
