Charles Fischer Administrator No. 1 Share Posted November 7 Well, partially wrong. When he came in at offensive guard...he was cold off the bench replacing the injured Marcus Harper. It was third down and he was up against one of the best defensive tackles in CFB in Mason Graham, and got bull-rushed back into the QB. Now he may have been expecting help from Poncho, who came over late, and did not block anyone on the play. The next play was the final drive that started with 7:24 left in the fourth quarter. It was a pass play, where Graham expected Rogers to fire-out to blunt the Bull-Rush, and then Graham stepped aside, grabbed his shoulders and flung him away. Graham then knocked Gabriel, but the pass was completed to Holden. This is learning-curve stuff taught in real-time... After that...he did really well run-blocking Graham, and was a reason we drove down the field and scored to finish the game.Granted many plays went away from him to the left, but this was a great confidence-builder that will make him better. He blocked, and then rolled a linebacker out of the scoring play at the end. Running the ball when you need to at the end of the game is elite stuff, and doing it to a good Michigan defense is even better. I don't know about having him go up against Ohio State DTs, but I think he will be OK for the next three weeks. kirklandduck Moderator No. 2 Share Posted November 7 One place where Michigan certainly wasn't weak is on the defensive line. Kawika got tossed into the deep end and after swallowing some water initially he started to tread water. Who will start at right guard for No. 1 Oregon football against Maryland? I think there is a natural flow behind Connerly in particular there. Hopefully we get a good game out for Rodgers this weekend against Maryland to help build him up. EastBayDuckDad Moderator No. 5 Share Posted November 7 After reading Sir Charles Fishduck's initial comments following the Michigan game, I went back and looked at the first several snaps Rogers took replacing Harper. It wasn't pretty, as my initial rosy assessment was off. He got bullrushed right back into DG's lap on the first and then manhandled by Graham again soon after. Rogers settled in and at least held his own after that, though they did run the offense to the left more in the 4th qtr to take advantage of Conerly at LT. Kawika is not really a prototype IOL, but he is big and a week of practice reps against Harmon and Caldwell will hone his pass pro skills if he is to start at RG Saturday. Iuli being available and hopefully getting reps will add to the depth comfort. Against Maryland, good enough may be all that is needed. 1 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
spartan2785 No. 6 Share Posted November 7 This could be a blessing in disguise, like David Marsh said it will allow Rodgers to get game time that should help him for next year. We will be playing next year with almost a completely new O-line, so getting a guy like Rodgers some time will most likely be a good thing. I would be hopeful that with the teams we have left it won't make much of a difference until Harper is able to come back. Feels like having a consistent player at center will help compared to Pickett getting blown up ever play at such a crucial position. The critical new starters were at QB and OL. We got really fortunate at QB for 2 players in a row with Bo and Gabriel...but 4th and 5th year seniors that happen to be gamers don't grow on trees at that position so it's always a perilous time when transitioning to a new starter there. But other than that we had quite a few returning starters at WR, TE, and RB. That won't be the case next season as we'll have new starters at nearly all positions on offense. I don't doubt that DL will bring in a smattering of veterans through the portal again but next season will be a lot more turnover than this season. 2025 will be a down year but I can still see a 10 win season and a possible at-large CFP spot if the cards fall the right way. You either make the next step or someone is brought in and steps over you. It is also interesting to hear about and see little tidbits of information on this process. One dot I am, maybe incorrectly, connecting is the story about Lanning asking Dante Moore to play corn hole with him. Moore said he wasn't very good and missed an opportunity to show just how competitive he was. Since that story came out we haven't seen much of Moore. Maybe Novosad was the guy who said he would step in and be his teammate? Life is one big test, each step of the way is an opportunity. Good thoughts. But 10-2 with a win over P4 B12 OK State in 2025 likely means OBD is back in the Playoff field. I think a Playoff bid would mean a successful season every year Oregon punched its ticket to The Delighted Dozen. I don't believe OBD is at Bama's championship or bust of a season level and I hope Oregon fans will never be that jaded. Winning football games is hard. Oregon will play five conference road games in 2025. However, the three OOC games are at home and Montana State replaces Boise State, so, like in 2024, OBD will have seven home games. It will be tough at Penn State, especially if it is a White Out game. The Games in Iowa City and Seattle could be a test but other than at Penn State, I think that in the 2025 preseason, Oregon will be favored in every game. The toughest home game looks to be against the Hoosiers. Hoo Knew! But 24-year-old Kurtis Rourke will not be back at QB. Oregon's Blue Chip Roster will be a darker blue. There is no Michigan and no Ohio State on the regular season schedule. Oregon will have a roster advantage in all of its games including the game in Happy Valley. The professionally managed and well-funded Division Street gives OBD a B1G advantage. The only NIL collective in the conference that can match Division Street is the Ohio State collective. Oregon could lose Will Stein and other top assistant coaches to better opportunities but to date, like one of his mentors Saint Nick, Dan Laning has successfully replaced the departing coaches. We are blessed. We are watching a program with the best marketing in CFB become more than its great mascot and showy uniforms, we are watching Oregon on the verge of obtaining Blue Blood status.
