David Marsh No. 1 Share Posted Friday at 05:07 PM Paul Finebaum eviscerates Big Ten, College Football Playoff committee for 'embarrassing slate of top teams' - On3 WWW.ON3.COM Paul Finebaum continued to lambaste the College Football Playoff Selection Committee for their latest rankings. I don't entirely disagree. However, it feels like he wants the final slate of teams posted right now. The reality is that the CFP rankings are a snapshot where things are today. I also disagree with the notion that the SEC is such a brutal schedule that the top teams in the B1G would be destroyed by it. He claimed that Indiana would be looking at their 5th loss if they played Georgia's schedule. While I would say Indiana maybe have a couple of losses, I don't think they'd be a 5 loss team. This Indiana team is playing with a whole lot of spirit and discipline and though they don't have Georgia's athletes I think they are playing better football. And to be blunt... the football product the SEC is putting on the field this year just doesn't look all that great. Though I suppose that's what the playoff is for. Their winning is the pitch... but I also think that is why they are punching above their weight class right now. He thinks the worst SEC team could beat anyone else. I think the BIG has better talent on the field and off, on the average. Georgia was lucky to beat UK or they would have 3 losses. I guess the only solution is for the BIG to start consistently beating the SEC, in order to quiet loudmouths like Paul down. The SEC has had a dominant team or two for what feels like forever now that is a national championship contender yearly but this year Georgia isn't that team and Texas had their shot at a top team and lost and don't appear to be that team either. However, what really irks SEC honks like Finebaum is that the mediocre middle isn't getting the same respect as the traditional top of their conference. Guess what, the middle sections of conferences tend not to be very good. I would argue this year that the B1G's middle is downright weak, so Finebaum and I would probably agree on that front. Indiana, like Texas, will get their shot at a highly ranked team. If they win they're in. If they lose close, they're probably in... if they lose badly then they're out. This is such an important point, it's ridiculous they have been able to get away with this. It's only now that the schedules for some of these teams has seemed daunting, most years, SEC teams have had their one or two tough games, but overall teams like USC, Vandy, Miss St. are gimmies, and teams had multiple gimmies, compounded by their annual beat down of VMI or Jacksonville St. in November. 3 1 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

How they play Ohio State will settle some dust. But I disagree the SEC would run through the B1G. That's what he really wants to say. Well, our top two would have a shot at running the table on those top nine SEC teams. Both are more physical, and as deep. And I believe that will be on display in the playoffs. If Penn State would start scoring points against high caliber teams, that would settle the discussion. I want to see how Indiana handles Ohio State in the trenches. They aren't t quite as talented in terms of depth, but they don't beat themselves, and they do make plenty of plays. They'll need it next week, because Ohio State has freshman that are more talented than the Hoosier's entire team. Finebaum is an SEC shill. Can't wait until the SEC starts playing the B1G in the regular season on an annual basis. That will end a lot of this cream puff talk about depth top to bottom. 2024 has been the first year since 2007 that the SEC has been so deep.
