Best New Rivalries Thanks to Re-Alignment

Recommended Posts

As if there was any other choice.

1. Oregon-Ohio State

Nothing will ever measure up to Ohio State-Michigan. But especially with the Wolverines floundering a bit post-Jim Harbaugh, there's room on the Buckeyes' dance card for another rival, while Oregon seems to have more or less left Oregon State in the dust.

These are the two clear best programs in the Big Ten right now, and two of the very best in the country. They compete on the recruiting trail already, and now we get to see them compete on the gridiron — and if the 2024 edition is any indication, we're really in for a treat. In this era of 18-team megaconferences, it remains to be seen just how frequently the Ducks and Buckeyes will actually play each other. But they could meet in Indianapolis on a regular basis, and something about seeing those two helmets on the same field brings a classic Rose Bowl vibe even in the regular season.

Oregon is desperate to prove that it runs its new conference, and Ohio State doesn't take kindly to West Coast interlopers. This one is a culture war as much as it's a football game, and it figures to only get saltier with time.

Texas-Georgia?

With DeBour taking Bama to mediocrity, perhaps it’ll be Texas competing with Georgia for the top of the SEC year in and year out. They certainly have two of the most talented rosters in college football.

All we have to do to make this a bitter rivalry and become "the team out west" is beat anOSU a few more times in a row. (...and to always refer to them as anOSU)

We could start calling them osu2 since Oregon State was founded in 1868, BEFORE tosu was founded in 1870.

I do agree with you Jon, we need to increase our 2-0 streak to about 10-0.  That will turn OBD into osu2’s very bitter rival!

12-0 would make them on par with U-Duh... might even be worth a new tee shirt release.

I like it!!  Great idea PittDuck!   I hate the arrogance of THE OSU, so I will not use "tOSU"

I LOVE this.  Count me in, and there is nothing that osu2 fans can do about it!

For OBD the osu2  suckeyes will always play second fiddle to the beavers who not only were here first, but we played them first.

And to Charles’ point above, ain’t nuthin they can do about it, the more they piss and moan, the more people will call them osu2!

A true win - win!

The new rivalries are not just for OBD!!!!!  OAC now has a burgeoning blood feud with the dreaded USU Aggies.  Television executives worldwide are feverishly scheming ways to land this gem of a battle.  A true ‘tear down the goal posts’ game with the coveted Gary Andersen “Red butt” trophy presented to the loser.
