Babyjesus615 No. 1 Share Posted December 11 Keep hearing and seeing multiple reports that the school was allotted 12,000 Rose Bowl tickets and those have all already been sold. People who were getting in on the pre-sale were being denied their tickets and told to check 3rd party ticketing sites (which are in turn jacking up the prices). Makes you wonder if this is an attempt by the Rose Bowl to keep the attendance from looking like a home game for Oregon?
Annie No. 2 Share Posted December 11 Back in 1995 I think each school got 40,000 tickets each. Then by the next Rose Bowl it was down to 20,000 tickets each--most of the rest going to corporations. Now only 12,000? So tickets are probably out there--for a price$$$.
DrJacksPlaidPants Moderator No. 3 Share Posted December 11 The same thing happened to the Penn State student section. Apparently, the CFP controls the tickets for playoff games. Student Section Seating Reduced Ahead Of Penn State Football Playoff Game Against SMU | Onward State ONWARDSTATE.COM Ticketmaster showed five sections, including two in the south end zone, for sale that are usually reserved for student seating.
DrJacksPlaidPants Moderator No. 4 Share Posted December 11 I don’t think I’ve ever seen Oregon fans travel well to a major bowl game. Ohio State outnumbered us almost 2 to 1 in the 2010 Rose Bowl and national championship. Hell, they almost had 30% of Autzen Stadium this year. My guess is either OSU or Tennessee will have significantly more fans in LA on January 1st. Auburn, KSU, Wisconsin, Penn State (B1G CG) all showed up in droves and made the Oregon crowd look small. However, this year’s team responded well in Indy, so the lack of Duck fans shouldn’t affect them too much.
SeattleDuck No. 5 Share Posted December 12 I entered the ticket queue at 12:30, had around 850 people ahead of me, 20 or so minutes later my turn came and there were no tickets to be had for Rose Bowl. Cancel our flights and hotel. Disappointing and a complete waste of of time. (And No, I will not support ticket scalpers)
Drake Moderator No. 6 Share Posted December 12 Price of admission if you want good seats. I never minded paying aftermarket for good seats. The tickets you get through the University are cheap for a reason…not that many good seats. I always expected to pay premium prices. Btw…every bowl game I have gone to, including both Natty’s, tickets were always available outside the stadium for reasonable prices. Many times I have sat in the midst of enemy territory…lol 1
Jon Joseph Moderator No. 7 Share Posted December 12 It's a PLAYOFF - Lose the Bowls! OBD should open at home in the 2nd round vs. the remaining lowest-seeded team. CFB needs the money. The NFL Business-Person Owners play ONE game at a neutral site. Follow the folks with the $. If a game is played in Buffalo in January, thems the breaks. Home fans deserve to be rewarded and not sent hither and yon paying jack-up airfares, hotel prices, and absurd ticket prices. No. 1 seed OBD. No home game(s.) Pasadena, Dallas or Miami, Atlanta. If you don't want to follow the NFL model, simply follow the model the NCAA uses for its football playoff championships. FUBAR!
kirklandduck Moderator No. 8 Share Posted December 13 Evidently there was also no cap on the number of tickets a person could buy, causing them to sell out even faster. Scalpers are probably having a heyday. Oregon Ducks Face Severe Backlash From Fans After Rose Bowl Ticket Fiasco - Athlon Sports

HDuck No. 10 Share Posted December 13 This is not the Rose Bowl. This is a CFP game which sets rules for the venue. Each of the four teams with opening round home games are required to provide 3,500 tickets to visitors. If BSU had a home game, or Penn State has a home game, and stadium size is non-comparable, both required to offer 3,500. Usually that will come out of student ticket sales as they are likely on Christmas break. Each of the four sites, Rose, Fiesta, etc. are allowed to offer 12,500. The 500 is generally for the band and staffers leaving about 12,000 for each school to sell. Boise State has told their fans, that is the number. Experience earlier this week strongly suggests that was also the number for Oregon. Two years ago the Rose allocation for Utah was 29,000 and they sold slightly above 30,000. But, that was the Rose Bowl's decision. This year, the 12,500 is a CFP decision, Don't know all the reasons, but I suspect the CFP has commitments to sponsors that are providing the $$$ to the CFP that tickets will be held for them. If Ticketmaster is a CFP sponsor (are they?) then restricting direct allocations to schools would mean more for Ticketmaster to peddle directly.

If Ticketmaster is a CFP sponsor (are they?) then restricting direct allocations to schools would mean more for Ticketmaster to peddle directly. Reasons -1. A broadcast entity that controls 90% of the bowls runs this postseason tournament; 2. college football is fractured with no central leadership; 3. athletic departments are drowning in debt and took the ESPN monetized lifeline and to hell with the student-athletes and the fans who are the true lifeblood of the programs if the fans can't get tickets or can't afford to travel thousands of miles for games, Tough wick. This PO format is broken, from selecting the teams to where and when the games are played. GOOD! The feedback is loud enough that it may be clear to the donut holes running things and it doesn't hurt that Bama was the 1st team out. There will be changes made in 2026, if not before, and an entirely new structure in the 2030s. PS - How'd you like to be a Sun Devils fan? Your team played a more difficult schedule than G5 Boise State. ASU has one more loss but ASU's 2nd loss was on the road at Cincinnati with the Sun Devils QB, Leavitt, unable to play. The Committee is supposed to recognize key injuries. One common opponent - ASU 48 Wyoming 7; Boise 17 Wyoming 13. ASU defeated P4 Mississippi State OOC, It was close in Eugene as we well know, but Boise defeated no P4 opponent. (Unless you want to count Wazzu.) Boise as the 3-seed plays in the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, AZ. As the 4-seed, ASU is rewarded with a bowl game in Atlanta, Georgia. A 90-minute drive from Clemson, SC, and also closer to probable opponent Texas. College Football Network Strength-of-Schedule Rankings (a compilation of all available SOS Rankings after the Week 15 champ games) Arizona State - 35; Boise State 78. Res ipsa loquitur, I rest my (futile) case. Under this vapid format, Boise does deserve a bye but not ahead of a P4 champion. I see ZERO justification for this abomination other than: Because, Peons, We Said So! I believe on 1/1/25, agents of ESPN will refer to the game as: "The Rose Bowl" with neither equivocation nor qualification.
Solar No. 12 Share Posted December 13 I was going to make day trip to the Rose Bowl from San Diego, but took one look at $350 for seats in row 77 that can see the parking lot easier than the field and decided against it. 1
SeattleDuck No. 13 Share Posted December 13 Problem is so few tickets held back for schools to sell. Rose bowl tickets went on sale to general public Wednesday, August 28, at 8 a.m. PT/11 a.m. ET, snapped up by scalpers. So, I doubt that it was Duck faithful who got first shot this past Wednesday buying up and dumping tickets. I’ve been fine paying a premium when buying from a season ticket holder (Ducks, Seahawks). I just don’t want to reward professional scalpers.
Sandy Rocks No. 14 Share Posted December 13 I don't understand how a game that is 850 miles and 13 hours away is considered a home game. If they had to do that in the east, they would change their opinion on that quickly. I would imagine that the expense would be excessive when considering travel, accommodations and then the overpriced tickets. I am sure it's a great experience.
