30Duck Moderator No. 2 Share Posted Thursday at 02:23 PM Great article, David, It is interesting that if it had been Saban, or Day even, who had employed the "12 on the field" strategy it would have been hailed as a stroke of genius. The picture of Gabriel, he couldn't be holding the ball more wrong!!! I accept that guiding your team to an undefeated season and No.1 ranking disqualifies Lanning from winning this convoluted award, but the hype around, "I win, google me" Cignetti, was more relentless, and self-perpetuated, than was Hunter's Heisman hype, unwarranted also compared to what Dillingham accomplished at Arizona State. Klatt has come around and now picks the Ducks to win the championship, some other's do as well. But as long as announcers still refer to Oregon as a "finesse" team, it's going to take time. As I don't do this full time sadly some of my points become less prominent as there is a delay from writing and publishing. But still... lots of people aren't picking the Ducks to win it all. I think Lanning is using that as fuel for the players.

Jon Joseph Moderator No. 5 Share Posted Thursday at 07:40 PM 'Facts are stubborn things.' - John Adams Trust a teacher to throw facts into the mix and muck things up! Terrific take. One other item I'll add to why OBD is Off the Radar - ESPN vs. FOX. FOX's broadcast numbers took a way back seat to ESPN this season. The Big Noon KO instead of showing the biggest B1G games in Prime Time? Did not work out. Interesting that FOX was instrumental in breaking up the Pac-12 and I cannot recall a single SC game broadcast by FOX this season. OBD was often on NBC, a network that promotes Notre Dame far more than the B1G and CBS which had a troubling transition from the SEC to the B1G. CBS did not get the top B1G game at 3:30 as it did in the CBS Must-Watch SEC time slot. Nessler and Danielson seemed to be going through the motions. And when you air Penn State at Purdue at 3:30 Eastern? The Tradition is all over the B1G but the conference is top-heavy and does not have the attractive mid-level conference games we see in the SEC, on ABC/ESPN. The B1G Network does a terrific job of covering all of the conference's sports but ESPN has more than double the number of BTN subscribers and it also has the ACC and the SEC networks that it owns and manages. College GameDay dwarfs FOX's pregame show numbers. OBD and the B1G have the weaker media hand. Add this to the geographical situation David so correctly noted and even with the impressive and aggressive marketing of the Ducks it's tough to be in front of the parade. How to fix this? JUST WIN BABY and KEEP ON WINNING - They Will Follow. Thanks again, David, for another terrific article. Hash Heupel! Wreck Ryan! 2

JabbaNoBargain No. 7 Share Posted Thursday at 08:01 PM (edited) I mean, we are number one and have been for a while so that is a large measure of respect imo…picking chalk when you don’t have a dog in the fight doesn’t generate interest. The West Coast teams just aren't going to kick off at 9am if they are highly ranked because those fan bases aren't ready for a game yet. The structure of how games are distributed is problematic for Fox who absolutely killed the Pac-12. Beyond that... I do think the SEC being in complete chaos this year has helped ESPN greatly. I know I've tuned into more SEC games this year than I have in previous years. Watching Alabama lose to Vanderbilt and Oklahoma are absolutely worth tuning in for... watching 2021 Georgia roll over every team they came across? Not so interesting. 1
Charles Fischer Administrator No. 9 Share Posted yesterday at 01:33 AM Oh David, that was a great summary of the "disses" that either come to Oregon, or are by omission. That whole process has been pretty strange, and yet at some times--such as the Playoff ranking show each week...Oregon's ruthlessness was acknowledged, and then the credit came from not questioning our results, but to simply talk about Alabama vs. SMU for the Playoff, etc. It is kinda a compliment? And I LOVE your choices of pictures, as the one below is so cool with the extra editing work done by the photographer Eric Becker to pull the green blotches of color in the background. What a pic! Good gosh...how cool is this? 1 1 Mr. FishDuck

HappyToBeADuck No. 11 Share Posted 19 hours ago Respect is in the hands of DL and the awesome players on the 2024 squad. 16-0 will represent the ultimate scoreboard smack talk and bring a National Title to Eugene . That will never change the view of the honks back east and down south. Back to back titles maybe! Go Ducks.......
