Jon Joseph Moderator No. 1 Share Posted December 19 This is truly a BIG Weekend for the B1G. Are the B1G teams overrated as dozens in Dixie so believe? Friday - 5 Pacific - ABC - No. 5 NOTRE DAME -7 vs. No. 10 INDIANA Holy Hoosiers. What would the preseason odds have been for this being the opening game of the 12-team Playoff? Astro, meet Nomical. Indiana did defeat a team with a Blue Chip Roster, Michigan, in Bloomington, but Indiana was manhandled in Columbus by a team with a deeper blue roster, Ohio State. The Irish have a Blue Chip roster. Notre Dame went 3-1 vs. the G5 with Army and Navy supposedly being Top 25 wins, and 5-0 against the Irish's favorite bakery located in ACC Pastry Patsy Country. Clemson and FSU want out, not the Irish. USC lit up the Notre Dame defense. Notre Dame's best win came against 8-4 A+M. Army at No. 22 is Notre Dame's only Top 25 win. Notre Dame 27 - Indiana 23. The Irish win but don't cover on the way to play Georgia in New Orleans. .................................................................................................................. Saturday - No 4 PENN STATE - 8.5 vs. No 10 SMU 9 AM Pacific - TNT It's been a wonderful season for SMU. As a condition of joining the conference, SMU agreed to take no media revenue through 2036. However, in a futile effort to placate Clemson and FSU, the ACC agreed that member schools would eat what they killed in the post-season. In the process of shutting Bama out of the Playoff, SMU has already pocketed $4M with a chance to earn more if it can win in Happy Valley and advance to play Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl. Will PSU coach James Franklin finally win a meaningful game? Franklin came within a score of Ohio State and OBD this season but could not close the deal. PSU fans know they have the easiest Playoff path - vs. a P4 runner-up, with a home loss to BYU and a loss to 3-loss Clemson, and G5 Boise on the way to Atlanta. I think the Nittany Lions are on the way to a Fiesta. PSU 38 - SMU 24. ................................................................................................................... Saturday - No. 6 OHIO STATE -7.5 vs. No. 7 Tennessee 5 PM Pacific - ABC The weather outside may be frightfully cold, it's December in Ohio after sundown, but the HEAT is most definitely on Buckeyes coach Ryan Day and Ohio State AD, Ross Bjork. The Buckeyes opened the wallet for players who could have gone pro in 2023 and for a few studs from the portal including All-America DB Caleb Downs and All-American Center, Seth McLaughlin, from Alabama. Unfortunately for tOSU, Seth is down and out. Ohio State openly and loudly proclaimed that 2024 Was Championship Or Bust! Gulp! A 21-point home favorite, Ohio State lost to the hated School Up North for the 4th year in a row and looked B-A-D in the process. Oh, and Ohio State lost to The New Kid On The Block, That Team Out West. The Tennessee Volunteers? It is so hard to get a handle on this season's SEC. The Vols beat Bama in Knoxville but were never in the game vs. Georgia in Athens and flamed out on the road in Hog Heaven. Tennessee had one of the easiest SEC in-conference schedules but could not make the SEC Champ game in Atlanta. I think this will be a low-scoring affair with two excellent defenses getting after it. This is the SEC vs. B1G Main Event. The OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY - 21 - The VOLS - 17 So, I have the B1G going 2-1. Sit back, relax, smell the Roses, and let me know if you agree with my handicapping which in the past has shown to be Cover-Challenged. Ruin Ryan! JK. I'm going to go with Tenn. They are used to cold weather, have nothing to lose as an underdog, can pressure Howard, and ALL the pressure is on Day. I think osu goes in the chipper and loses. And, I'll take the killer Cignetti's. I listened to him describe what he learned after the L to osu and think they will be prepared for this. Plus, ND had to have a near miracle to hold off the "safe sexers" and who did they lose to . . . not the Illinois team that plays in the BIG, but the one that went 4 - 4 in the Middling America Conference. Lastly, I just realized that we went from the Pac 12 with a little brother osu to the BIG with the same result. GO DUCKS!! 1
spartan2785 No. 6 Share Posted December 19 (edited) I think the B1G will go 1-2, Penn St. will get the W. Have a feeling Tennessee might take a lead early and the crowd will turn on the team, Day will falter in the face of adversity, and finally I don't know if Howard has it in him to come back against a really good Tennessee front line. Indiana will be more competitive than the first time they played a team with a heartbeat, but they won't have enough against I hate to admit it...a pretty good ND team. I actually think Notre Dame is pretty dang good and could make it to the final. SMU will be competitive, but I have a feeling Penn St. will take a lot of positive vibes from the title game. I'm sure it was disappointment for those players, but the offense really came through, and that has been the thing holding them back. Too much talent and at home. I'm also calling my shot saying Clemson will beat Texas. They have nothing to lose, and I see them playing really loose. I think Sark will stick with Ewers and it will end in tears for them. Jon Sousa No. 10 Share Posted December 20 On 12/19/2024 at 11:02 AM, Jon Joseph said: Astro, meet Nomical JJ, you make me laugh! Thank you. I don't know football near enough to make any accurate predictions. My predictions are what I WANT to be the truth. So, with that in mind... I am rooting for the Whoooosays to beat the Domers. Why? Because, like the SEC, the Golden Domes are almost always overrated, (When was the last time they one a playoff game?????) and their fanbase rate them much, much higher still. I would rather play Tennessee than anOSU, but I am a conference loyalist and it will be better for our reputation to beat anOSU by a whole lot more than a point to carry us through the off season. On the other hand, again, I like the idea of going through 3 of the best SEC teams on the way to a championship, giving the SEC folks nothing to say except "It was a down year for the SEC." So that one is a toss-up in my mind. It's good or good. I want Penn State to put a beat down on SMU. 1

30Duck Moderator No. 12 Share Posted December 20 When one talks about a team being overrated, I think Indiana jumps to the front of the line. One of the most common terms in sports is, "this game is a measuring stick." that game for Indiana was against Ohio State, and Indiana definitely didn't measure up. It's not that I want Notre Dame, but I think they'll win. No game all season had me more nervous than the B1G CCG against Penn State, Warren is terrifying. Good job getting in, SMU, but time to say goodnight. I don't think Clemson or Texas had seasons worthy of Top 12. Clemson's best game was their 3 point win over SMU, Texas didn't have a Best win, their best games were the two L's to Georgia. I used to go All Pac in Bowl Season, but since the B1G really only had 3 competitive teams I don't that have that loyalty yet, go Tennessee, OBD will take care of the SEC.
