Season a Success Either Way

Recommended Posts

As an outsider to the Ducks fan base I've grown to appreciate the welcoming nature on this board. I've noticed the mood go from excited to anxious the last few days. I understand why, but I do wonder how the feeling will be post Rose Bowl.

Let's say Oregon wins. Is the feeling relief or a subdued sense of euphoria? Are you just looking forward to the next one and getting ready for a team like Texas or is there a sense that you just knocked out your toughest hurdle and feel like the biggest roadblock is gone?

Now worst case scenario ,Oregon loses. Do you feel like the season is a success or do you need time away from it to answer that question because your ultimate goal wasn't completed? Looking at your season I would say it's obviously successful and Lanning proved he's one of the best coaches in the game. Losing to Ohio State doesn't tarnish this season. Winning the second toughest and most historic conference in year one while beating the three blue bloods is historic. But that just makes you expect and crave more.

I'll say this one last time. This shouldn't be a quarterfinal game. You guys should be playing Boise or Arizona State. Georgia got the short end as well imo. Penn State and Texas lost on championship Saturday, even on selection Sunday everybody saw they got the easier draws. This needs to be fixed. It's not hard to do either. The NFL showed how to do it for years when the AFC and NFC had the two bye per conference system.

Without a doubt it's been a highly successful great season.

But. The ultimate goal is still not reached, but it is oh so close.

The Natty.

Getting this far is great, but it would be disappointing to miss.

However, beating tOSU for the 2ND time! in the same season, might make the Natty anticlimactic...

...nah, it won't.

We love our Ducks!

Just keep winning, baby!

Thanks for the post. I'm not pondering THIS until the end of the Rose Bowl game.

The Ducks were dealt a bad hand by this fouled-up PO format but SO WHAT?

OREGON is 0-2 in clearing The Title hurdle. The only thing that will somewhat abate, not end the Uncle Phil bought a title, not a physical team, all flash and no cash narratives is a Championship.

The World Says: No great college teams in 2024. A Rose Bowl loss will confirm this POV; especially, if tOSU does not win the title. Go 16-0 with SIX WINS against PO teams and the Ducks can simply say: SCOREBOARD! AN ALL-TIME SCOREBOARD but for Yale before electricity and an FCS team or two.

It took Kirby Smart time to get his 1st title. It comes full circle in Atlanta on 1/20/25 when Danno and the Ducks get payback for Lanning's opening act butt-kicking.

It's the Ducks and not Ohio Against the World.

ONE GAME AT A TIME. CRUSH THE BUCK'S NUTS!

IMO, to win the entire thing, you are going to have to beat tOSU at some point.  So what does it matter if it is next week, the week after that or in the final?  Therefore, I am not too upset about the draw.

You either win the whole thing or you don’t. For me it doesn’t matter which round you get knocked out in. As a wise man once said, “If you ain’t first, you’re last”.

If Oregon does lose, I still think the season is a huge success.  Going into the BIG and running the table was amazing first year accomplishment. Lanning has this thing moving in the right direction and IMO it is only a matter of time until he wins one, if it is not this year.

That being said, I really think Oregon is going to win this game by 7+ points.  Last time around, the offense was doing whatever it wanted and they left 10+ points on the table. The scary thing is that the offense is playing better right now.  I have confidence in Lanning and this team.

I won't feel it a success unless the Ducks make the natty and win or lose. Getting knocked out by tOSU will only fan the flames of bias and further reinforce the idea that the Ducks can't win the big one.

Going 13-0 then losing the 1st game in the CFP will feel like the season is unfinished.

I can't see this game as a two score win for either team. That favors Oregon in the two fields I see them with advantages. Special teams and head coach.

If this game does become close I really believe Ryan Day will tell Chip Kelly to go conservative which will result in Ohio State taking away their own best weapons. He did it against Michigan and two years ago when they blew that Peach Bowl against Georgia.

If Will Howard gets hot early and their secondary allows aggressive pressure fronts I fear Ohio State could put up a big enough lead that even Ryan Day couldn't  blow. I don't see Lanning allowing that though. He won't have Gabriel in empty set formations like Heupel did with a freshman QB on the road.

Philosophers would love the question. When you've gone undefeated in the B1G, won the CCG, been the unanimous No.1 for longer than any other team this season, does not winning the Natty make the season a failure? If a person tells one lie, are they a liar?

By now we've all become numb to just missing. "Dixon goes down" "Dyer was down" ironically linked forever in our tormented quest. If the Ducks don't beat Ohio State this time, and that's all folks, it will be the hardest end to a season yet. But in no way will I attach "fail" to this team or the season.

Ohio State will have cemented its place at the top of enemy list. But, if that team, a discordant mess compared to the methodical machine Oregon has been all season can beat the Ducks, when it matters the most. I'll have to give them credit and despise them even more.

10 Top B1G Moments in 2024. Oregon Winning the Football Title over Favored Ohio State is No. 9 - Behind the Field Hockey Team's Natty.

SATURDAYTRADITION.COM

National titles, legendary performances, breakthroughs and milestones: The Big Ten had it all in 2024.

So the B1G Saturday Site ranks a conference newbie winning the title at No. 9?

No. 9 equates to winning the conference's Rodney Dangerfield Award and I hereby rest my No Respect Without a Natty Case. 💩

Not going to get philosophical about a loss until it happens.  Because it won't.  The full upside of the Oregon offense, especially on the passing side will be revealed in the Rose Bowl as Tez, Stewart, Holden, Sadiq and Ferguson go crazy.

Receiver_Eric Becker.jpg

Remember how Holden got ejected? He got open for some big plays...now he's 100%?

Oregon will make the nation say...

Without a doubt the 2024 season is a monster success. Consider that no matter the playoff format (2, 4, or 12 teams) OBD's would be the top seed. That is a great accomplishment.

A football season is a journey with highs and lows, ebbs and flows. Win or lose those judging will develop their own criteria to support their narrative.

This 2024 team is the most complete Duck team ever and they don't care what anyone thinks of them. They will work and practice hard and execute the game plan.

Barring mistakes and sloppiness OBD's will win this game by 8 or more points. Only Oregon can beat Oregon. Nothing has changed since week zero. osu2 is the same team that lost to the ducks in October and melted down at home to the Wolverines.

For this fan, no more negative, what ifs, second guessing or doubts. I am sending OBD's what they deserve...POSITIVE THOUGHTS AND ENERGY. They have earned nothing less.

My guess is that most of us are cautiously optimistic. We will remain that way after a Rose Bowl win. We know only different levels of heartbreak and will not feel relief until we finally raise that trophy.

The knock that there are no great teams in 2024 stems from the fact there are no great blue blood teams in 2024. If Oregon runs the table, it will be the greatest run ever in a college football season. We will become an official blue blood.

Absolutely, in 2019, everybody was calling LSU a great team, same for Georgia in 2022, long before they won the Championship. Osu2 is thought of as a great team, after losing to Michigan & blasting Tennessee.
