Ducks Exposed

Recommended Posts

The Ducks got exposed last night. The OSU is bigger on both sides of the ball at the line of scrimmage at the running back position, at the wide receiver position, and at the cornerback position. Moving forward I think it’s clear Dan Lanning needs to continue to recruit bigger, upfront players, as well as taller, receivers and quarterbacks.

Fortunately, Dante Moore is significantly taller than Dylan Gabriel, so he is less likely to get balls knocked down in the pocket. For all the great recruiting, Dan Lanning has done. It’s pretty clear that there’s still work to do to get to get to The OSU’s level.

I had a bad feeling about the game going in (hated the seeding), but not that bad and fortunately, Dan Lanning is a great recruiter, and he will be able to fill the holes this team has. Overall, I can’t feel poorly about this season because of one bad game.

Overall I agree.

One thing I'd like to say though is this team was coached well enough and was talented enough to handle Ohio State.  They proved that in October.

Size and physicality wasn't the problem yesterday.

I've mentioned why in another post.  I've actually stated what some major flaws are for two years.

Never abandon the edge on defense ( ever- give up something else, but seal those damn edges as if your life depends on it).

The other flaw us a national pandemic.  Coaches harp on eyeballing the QB.  You cannot cover your man and look at the QB simultaneously.  You'll always lose your man.  Even if he's right next to you.

One day, I'm going to post a thousand videos of exactly that.  Yes, there are thousands of examples.  That's how I know it's worse than any disease mankind has faced.

On offense, were fine.  Physical enough by far.  The only reason I won't describe why is that the changes I recommend will never be implemented. It's not my offense.  Heck, if hie Fushduck in a hot minute and challenge him to infinity in coming up with five hundred Sequential plays.

Nobody would stop Fushduck if he has 500 Sequentials.  But alas,  Will Stein is pretty damn good.  He'll learn from today.  He will find conflict routes against the best damn Havoc causing defense eventually.  It is possible.

Just watch Joe Montana dismantle the best havoc generating defense ever,- the 1985-87 Chicago Bears.

Life is good in Duck Nation.  Trust me.

I agree, while there are position groups that could be better, this wasn’t the issue.  Ohio St has compiled maybe one of the greatest rosters of all time, this has been widely expressed, and fueled so much of their fan base frustration when they underperformed.

Totally appreciate Lanning’s ownership mentality, but when the best teams are playing, little things do add up; injuries, a stolen possession, a blown coverage, momentum, there is so little margin for error.

Big bowl games always have a hangover effect, it’s a huge hurdle to come out with energy and avoid digging a hole.

Ohio st had 10 days off, so an extra long week to prep, Oregon had 24 days…

Ryan Day called it right;

Ohio State routed Oregon in the Rose Bowl on Wednesday to reach the College Football Playoff semifinals...

Momentum is real, give up 5 TDs before you even know what happened and you’re done.  Against a team who on paper is one of the greatest.

Any other year and Ohio State wouldn’t be playing for a natty as they’d be on the outside looking in, playing in a non-relevant bowl.  It sucks for sure, any other year Oregon would have to likely go through ND or Texas and Georgia to win our first title.

Here’s some bitter truth, Oregon lost their last national championship showing in the first year of the CFP to a team that in any other year wouldn’t have had a chance to play for it… that’s right, Cardale Jones and the Buckeyes…

…but we can’t focus on the what ifs..

Still a great season, and no, the bottom won’t fall out after this loss..

If winning lots of games is our goal, I think we are going to be satisfied over the next several years.

If winning a championship is the objective, I think we will likely continue to be disappointed.

Winning championships is hard. Look at Ohio State. They’ve had stacked rosters for over 20 years and have two championships to show for it.

With Lanning’s recruiting and coaching prowess, Oregon has a realistic chance of winning the big game. It also takes some good fortune to go along with the skill and hard work.

I can count at least two Bama championships that don’t happen without another team losing late in the season. In 2011 they got in because Oklahoma State lost to ISU and we all know how they got in the championship game in 2012.

Winning championships is hard... very-very hard. As a Duck fan, I've known this for more than 5 decades.

And I'm grateful for Oregon's many programs that have won many national championships over the years, with the notable exceptions of the big-3: football, basketball (1938-39 was before my time), and baseball.

Thankfully, winning championships is not remotely a life & death situation. And my sincere thoughts and prayers today are with those in New Orleans.

Still digesting this one (gag), but that showing is just a head-scratcher to me.  This team was just not ready for the moment.

Where to you really begin to point out our shortcomings in this one?  Defense was constantly out of position, the offense was stagnant (especially the O-line)  and we couldn't even get a decent punt off.

I don't have the answers about what happened to our defense, but if my math is correct we gave up 79 points in our final two games.  I'm not feeling really confident in Lupoi right now.

How is it that a 13-1 season with B1G championship now feels like a total disaster?  wth?!

Oh well, the skiing's great this year and at least I can watch the rest of the playoff without feeling like I did yesterday.

Regarding skiing, I'm so glad for you guys this season, and jealous at the same time because I'm down here in the desert. But I do have a trip coming up to Mt Hood in the middle of this month and I'm really looking forward to it.

The amount of snow that the West is getting is just fantastic. I'm glad you're getting out there to enjoy it and hope you get in all the laps you can this season!

Winning a Natty is within our reach.  Lots of things have to go your way though.  It's just the nature of the beast
