Charles Fischer Administrator No. 2 Share Posted January 11 What he says about officials allowing Maryland to "mug" his team without calling fouls does not sound promising for us either. His warning may help the new Pac-12 teams in the B1G by letting the officials know we are on to them. 1 Mr. FishDuck
anyotherduck No. 3 Share Posted January 11 At what point will something be done about officiating? Officiating has become increasingly (to the point of being blatantly) biased while the conferences and the NCAA seem to think the best solution is to punish anyone who points out the obvious.. As with most everything else in this world, truth, fairness and reality are all too often cast aside in favor of some dishonest knob and their favored narrative
OregonDucks No. 4 Share Posted January 11 (edited) "I don't remember the last time I had a technical," [Coach Cronin] said. "I had enough. I'm sending a message. I'm tired of it. I know we're the outsider and all that -- us, SC and Oregon -- but that was ridiculous. LOL. Notice anyone missing from the new B1G teams Coach Cronin mentioned? HDuck No. 5 Share Posted January 11 I did not see the game, so commenting "blind" here. Remember: the Pac12 had horrendous basketball officiating and was very inconsistent. The only thing consistent was opponents getting railroaded by officials when the games were in Tucson. Entering the B1G I commented that the Ducks would have to get used to playing a rougher brand of basketball. It was also evident when Pac teams played in the NCAA Tournament, but the B1G would be a whole other world for how games would be called.
30Duck Author Moderator No. 6 Share Posted January 11 For the most part, the comments in "Eleven Warriors" osu2's site after the Ducks beat the Buckeyes, wee that their coach and team were awful, but there were these: We are the only team in the big ten that doesn’t get a call at home I’m sick of it Refs make this stuff about unwatchable. Every time we go up 8 they get a call, then can't call a textbook charge at the end
30Duck Author Moderator No. 7 Share Posted Sunday at 02:54 AM This losing streak for the Bruins is hurting the Ducks. The loss was bad enough, but now it's looking worse and is bringing the Ducks' NET down.
Desert Duck No. 8 Share Posted Sunday at 09:23 PM "Difficult travel was a given when those teams joined, and the Bruins are dealing with it now." We all knew B1G travel would suck, but when you're playing 30+ regular season games -- BEFORE post season, it's beyond ridiculous.

It's just something the teams are going to need to get used to, nothing anyone can do about it, first couple seasons are going to hurt before programs get used to it. Could get better later in the season when they've gone cross country a couple times or it could get worse as they get more tired, we'll see how it goes. I suspect the teams that are doing well in the season are going to be relatively unaffected by it, but those teams that are struggling might go further in a hole as they begin to see the end of the season coming. Sandy Rocks No. 12 Share Posted Sunday at 11:54 PM I really don't think these refs are that bad. Today's game seemed very evenly called. In my opinion, they have a long way to go to be as bad as the PAC-12. With regard to the scheduling, I have to say that USC and UCLA are the ones that started this whole thing. Scheduling was alway going to be difficult when you need to fly across country, in three time zone. They play a lot of basketball games and some games are going to be difficult time wise. This is the first year, there are bound to be problems that will need to be addressed. Whining doesn't work, it only makes your team a target. 1

I feel like the officials have been fine, I haven't seen any badly called games. There's been an appropriate level of physicality. Most games with Oregon have seen a pretty even amount of fouls on both sides. If I remember correctly the UCLA game was called pretty tight, but overall it's been better than the Pac-12. Washington Waddler Moderator No. 14 Share Posted Monday at 08:28 AM (edited) Ref bias aside, I think you just have to accept that the first stop of any two game B1G east swing is likely going to be affected by jet lag. Players are just not going to be ‘on’ in the same way they’ll be in the 2nd game. 1st game jet lag is going to make it harder to shift gears and pressure opponents without fouling. Might be more what happened to Cronin’s team when they dug themselves into that hole with the Terps. It’s just a fact of life that basketball scheduling doesn’t allow for cushion days to get players adjusted. Coaches are always looking for the “next call” to go their way. Just imagine how many 15 yard penalties would be called in football if coaches went ballistic on every call they didn’t agree with. Mick Cronin is pissed at his team, more than the officials. And it looks like he may be losing the locker room…..and possibly his job at season’s end. Sandy Rocks No. 16 Share Posted Monday at 07:21 PM You don't get a double technical unless you are really ragging on the refs, following them around or getting on the court and disrupting the flow of the game. Its true coaches don't do that unless things have gotten out of control. I can count on one hand how many times Altman has gotten a technical. He rarely loses his composure.
