30Duck Moderator No. 1 Share Posted January 24 Mike West got me thinking about this, as Chip Kelly's "12 Men" comment was part of what got Ohio State over the "humiliation" of losing, to Oregon! Apparently, it was too inconceivable, the Buckeyes losing to the Ducks??? It's humiliating to lose to Oregon, by 1 point, at Autzen? Even though for the last 3 decades Oregon had built itself into, if not a blueblood, no Natty, a team who deserved respect. But not it seems from Thee Ohio State. It was bad enough that Oregon was in the B1G at all. Now they actually had a two game winning streak! It wasn't being perceived as luck. Lanning's cunning end of the game strategy was being lauded. Oregon doesn't need their respect
Jon Joseph Moderator No. 2 Share Posted January 24 The Ohio State University - 10 Wins vs. OBD. OBD - 2 Wins vs. the Buckeyes. OBD will have to significantly close this gap and also win at least 2 titles before getting respect from the fans in Columbus. Big Nut is the perfect poster boy for the over-the-top, looney Buck Nuts fans. 1

Tony No. 4 Share Posted Saturday at 05:04 AM No OSU player or coach ever said they were humiliated to lose to Oregon at Autzen. Like Jon said. Chip is smart butt east coast guy and couldn't resist a good quip.

GatOrlando No. 10 Share Posted Sunday at 03:45 AM (edited) Ohio State respects Iowa. They hate Michigan. Which do you think Oregon is closer to? I remember prior to Florida throttling them in the BCS Title game in 2006 many many Buckeye fans predicting a blowout. They were right, just not in the way they wanted. To this day they won't put any respect on Florida's name. They really don't like us though. Florida is 2 and nothing against Ohio State. That will be the "Respect" Oregon will receive, and it's different than what they have for Iowa, and different I think than the dislike between Washington and Oregon. Ohio State didn't know Oregon existed until the Rose Bowl in 2010. Beating Oregon for the National Championship was a speed bump. But now Oregon is a worldwide brand, in their first year in the B1G, they went undefeated, beat Ohio State, and it was not viewed as lucky, instead it installed Oregon as No.1. So, yes, Ohio State really doesn't like Oregon. That was a decisive win in the Rose Bowl, but it didn't knock Oregon out. 2
Mike West No. 12 Share Posted Sunday at 06:40 AM I love that Buckeye fans recognize the threat that Oregon is. It first started with the recruiting battles. Then it immediately spilled over to the field. They don’t respect us, but they respect the threat that we are to them. Whether they like it or not. 1 1

They just beat Alabama. The end goal and ultimate highlight was the NT. But they knew right as the playoff bracket was revealed that to get there they'd have to beat a team that already beat them. Beating Tennessee was just the first step and most of their fans were apathetic about that considering there were large swaths of orange in their stadium for the first ever home playoff game at night. Beating Texas was a nice big win and beating Notre Dame was the conclusion. But listen to their players and fans before everyone of their playoff games and compare it to what they said before Oregon. They gave respect to the other team but the wording was about moving on. For Oregon they talked about getting another shot against them particularly. Heck Chip Kelly was asked about that game particularly before Notre Dame. No question about the last opponent they played in Texas or Tennessee. It was about Oregon and their offense played well against Oregon. They asked about a game played weeks ago.
fred flintstone No. 16 Share Posted Monday at 05:42 PM Ohio State will respect Oregon when Oregon earns it. I am a Duck fan but as a long time fan of college football.......you don't squeak out a one point win at home thousands of miles from their home site and then fold up against them on a neutral field closer and more familiar to yourself without them being a bit arrogant. The only two powers Oregon beat this year were Penn St and Illinois.....both at home. In Penn St's case a day of travel away.....and Illinois does not historically count for much in the BIG. Not saying Oregon was not a good team......but you want respect.......next time show up for the big game and beat them. It was a great season.....but the goal is to win NC's.....and with this very good team we did not...... Claiming Oregon as No 1 is ridiculous Ohio State beat Tenn, ND, Oregon and Texas all very comfortably. Oregon struggled again Boise and several of the others. Hopefully things will improve next year when some of the Lanning recruits arrive on the defensive line for the first time.
