GatOrlando No. 2 Share Posted Tuesday at 01:50 PM I actually think this is a great thing CFB could do. Colorado has discussed doing it with multiple schools. Would it be a scrimmage like the NFL does, or would it be like a pre season game? I can't imagine coaches wanting full contact in a meaningless game. We could see if any walk-ons have the goods. Maybe earn themselves a scholarship.
The Kamikaze Kid Moderator No. 3 Share Posted Tuesday at 02:20 PM As fun as it is to contemplate little Beavis as a Spring game punching bag, I think the current format is more productive. I'd rather have more players get more reps and let players duel it out for position rankings. I'd also be nervous about setting up position rankings too early and setting up a possible portal exodus. I'm actually not that attached to a reoccurring game with them. I'd rather use that game slot for maintaining recruiting pipelines (So Cal, Texas). Lanning is so visionary about all aspects of program growth, I think Rob should consult with him about future preseason scheduling. 1
HDuck No. 4 Share Posted Tuesday at 03:36 PM "I'd rather use that game slot for maintaining recruiting pipelines..." Opponents from Arizona, Utah, Texas, Colorado.... I really don't understand the infatuation with maintaining an annual game with Oregon State for essentially nostalgia. Perhaps rotate every 5th and 6th year, and in the four "off years" schedule Cal, Stanford, ASU, UA, Utah, etc. I wouldn't mind home-and-home with OSU but only if it were on a less frequent basis. If the B1G keeps 9 games, then also enters a scheduling partnership with the SEC for a 10th game, I can't imagine restricting the program to an annual game with OSU for the 11th game when thoughts should be toward recruiting exposure. JB89 No. 5 Share Posted Tuesday at 04:56 PM Count me as another fan that prefers keeping the current spring game format. I think the coaches get to evaluate more players in the current format and more players get significant snaps.
HDuck No. 6 Share Posted Tuesday at 05:36 PM Jan. 15, 2025 The NCAA announced some big changes for men’s college basketball scheduling beginning with the 2025-26 season. The Division I Men’s Basketball Oversight Committee approved a proposal that allows up to two preseason exhibition games against any school, including Division I opponents. The decision was revealed Wednesday in a press release. Exhibition games were previously approved through a waiver process with all revenue going to charity. Schools will now be able to choose how they allocate the money generated from exhibition games. In another rule change, preseason practice scrimmages — often labeled “secret scrimmages” in the college basketball world — no longer have to be conducted in private without official scoring. In Fall 2024 I believe the Ducks “lost” to Nevada and “beat” Utah State in secret scrimmages. Here's a list of other B1G scrimmages: https://www.offtackleempire.com/2024/11/3/24286524/2024-25-big-ten-mens-basketball-preview-schedule-exhibitions-charity-games-secret-scrimmages-results The scrimmages often have different rules by agreement between coaches. It appears what Coach Prime is asking for is a parallel to basketball's pre-season exhibition rule. Though in the past, basketball exhibition games had to be against non-Div I opponents unless a waiver for a charity game vs Div 1 was granted. I doubt Coach Prime is interested in a "secret scrimmage." And, obviously he wants it in the Spring rather than during Fall practice.
Charles Fischer Administrator No. 7 Share Posted Tuesday at 05:37 PM I like the Spring Game as it is. If we change it into a scrimmage with another team...we will get some unintended consequences that we cannot anticipate at the moment. Isn't that the way it always ends up? 1 2 Mr. FishDuck
Drake Moderator No. 8 Share Posted Tuesday at 05:50 PM Not a fan of the idea of playing any other team in the spring. A meaningless game against a team that would love to put a big hit on key players doesn’t make a lot of sense. The spring game allows the local fans to see the young players at Autzen for a scrimmage. Looks like a fun afternoon if I lived in Eugene. Most fans know what our veteran players are capable of doing. I will watch the game televised, but just not compelled to drive +4 hours in heavy traffic, for a scrimmage against anybody. 1
Jon Joseph Moderator No. 9 Share Posted Tuesday at 07:51 PM Thanks, David. Playing a G6 opponent in a meaningless game does not make sense. Playing in Corvallis? No way. I like your FCS for all P4 + G6 teams in the spring, a game that counts with 11 games left in the regular season beginning in Week 0. Have to shorten the season and play the champ game on 1/1 or shortly thereafter. Go against King NFL and you lose. OBD owes these hypocritical sewer rats NOTHING.
DanLduck No. 10 Share Posted Tuesday at 10:14 PM Count me as a big FAT NO!!! Giving the Beavis rats any attention is too much. We do NOT need to support them any more financially. They (and WSU) have stolen enough from the P12. Giving some 3rd sting wannabe a chance to "make a name" by putting a devastating hit on a qb or wr is a big no bueno! The current setup with free admission (food stuffs brought) and a controlled contact exhibition is the key. Let's not ruin the last vestige of college football. 2

JabbaNoBargain No. 12 Share Posted yesterday at 08:44 PM (edited) An exercise in imagination. Why limit it to Beavis? Let’s get some NFL crossover to really test our players. Edited yesterday at 08:45 PM by JabbaNoBargain
30Duck Moderator No. 13 Share Posted 21 hours ago It is a glorified scrimmage, free for the fans, get a look at some new players, the last thing it should be is competitive. If a Duck gets injured during the spring Game, that's just really bad luck. no way do I want a Beav or any other creature getting a shot at a Duck.
