Smith72 Moderator No. 2 Share Posted 21 hours ago Thanks Mr. FishDuck for the analysis. Wow!..That is some amazing blocking with a hat on a hat and the red sea parting. Thanks for providing the video. Running backs love running behind an awesome line! Kudos to Coach Terry.

Thanks, as I noticed last year that the left side of the offensive line was doing a great job of sealing the defense to the inside when running outside. But those were veterans, and now when I see RS Freshmen employing this technique? It means that Coach Terry is implementing this adjustment from the beginning now with all offensive linemen. For those who have not watched...the videos are very short, and it is an easy, short read! Now THAT is a running lane! 1 1 Mr. FishDuck
Jon Joseph Moderator No. 4 Share Posted 17 hours ago Wow. Another enlightening take. I'm playing checkers when watching the game, you're playing chess. Yes, there were 11 sacks in the game, but the shuffled O lines are attending class in the same ballroom. Is there a better place for an O lineman to be coached up than Eugene? It's going to be a blast watching the starting O line players performing together. Where were the amazing head-on camera shots taken from? Talk about up front and personal! Thank you! Charles Fischer Administrator No. 5 Share Posted 16 hours ago I wanted to cover this new blocking technique trend on the offensive line first, but in reference to the 11 sacks? I have an analysis coming up, that will cover a previously unknown nugget within that area. (New to me too!) I am quite confident that nobody else is covering what is in today’s analysis, or the next one! 1 Mr. FishDuck
David Marsh No. 6 Share Posted 15 hours ago There is a lot of talent on this offensive line, even outside of the transfers. Just need to get that line in sync which is something that is difficult to do in mixed squads in a spring game.
Solar No. 7 Share Posted 14 hours ago I think this is the best O line talent since 2019. I'm honestly still not sold on Terry. He comes from the Cristobal tree, a tree that focuses on ensuring no negative plays and considers any yards gained past the linebackers to be a bonus. Rushing lanes past the front seven were few and far between last year. If we hadn't had Mr Yards after first contact James, we would have been screwed. I hope run blocking is significantly improved this year as the RB room's strength will not be breaking arm tackles.

Something that was always evident, but has become very pronounced this year is the massive difference in talented and experienced depth between the defensive and offensive lines. We have quite a ways to go in building the same depth on the offensive line that we have on the defensive line. The starting offensive line is very good and talented, but they were spread between the two teams and as always--the Spring Game always highlights that disparity. But this year....it was the biggest difference EVER, IMHO. 1 Mr. FishDuck

That is an offensive philosophy that comes from the OC and HC, IMHO. Blocking technique is influenced by the offense, and I believe that Stein's priorities and how the OL blocking is taught will continue to improve. One reason that run-yardage may have been less, is that Nix was more effective runner than Gabriel, and we clearly did less of Zone-Reading this last year. I do expect less QB running this year, with a bigger emphasis on the passing game because of all the talent at WR and TE. 3 Mr. FishDuck

I hope run blocking is significantly improved this year as the RB room's strength will not be breaking arm tackles. Beyond that... our rotation of runningbacks just wasn't as strong. Additional note... B1G defenses are a bit stouter on the line of scrimmage than Pac-12 defenses. I did a pretty extensive breakdown of the running game's decline last year over previous years that can be found via the link below. Rebuilding Oregon’s Offense for 2025: Running Back | FishDuck FISHDUCK.COM Oregon’s run game in 2024 was good. At 13-1 with a B1G Championship under their belt, the Ducks were a very good team... I don't think the offensive line was as cohesive as it was in 2022 or 2023. I think the injuries to both Mathew Bedford and Dave Iuli in the early season certainly had a negative impact on our offensive line. Poncho has developed nicely though breaking in a new center does have bumps. Though I will say the runningback room last year just didn't feel as deep as it did in the previous years. In 2022 James was used as a short yardage back while Irving and Whittington shared snaps and Nix actually had the most rushing touchdowns. In 2023 Nix didn't run as much but the combo of Irving and James was pronominal. This last year James was the featured back and without him we didn't have much of a run game. Whittington is at best a change a pace back and the youngsters were still developing. Hoping this year the runningback room and the offensive line reasserts itself. Final note... last season we saw a new Offensive Line Coach in Terry and a new runningback coach in Samples. 2

The Kamikaze Kid Moderator No. 12 Share Posted 6 hours ago I always love these O line breakdowns. Nice to see the youngens are are handling some advanced techniques. Maybe the depth might be better than it looked on paper before the Spring Game.

I like the talent of the O-Line newbies, but they lack experience. Ziyare Addison looks like he has the build and fast-feet like Josh Conerly Jr. at left tackle, and he held up well at times, and got burned by savvy guys who have been there for years. Nonetheless, for a HS freshman skipping spring sports at HS...I loved the upside. The quality of talent being assembled at Oregon is unlike anything seen before in Eugene, and only in places like Athlens, Columbus, Tuscaloosa, etc. Looks the part to me! 1 Mr. FishDuck

The last two years have seen a significant decline in the QB run game. I think 2023 was due in part to needing to avoid losing Nix to injury like what happened in 2022. Last year it sounded like from the players that Oregon had some back-up QBs that could fill in for Gabriel if needed. However, even though Oregon went undefeated the vast majority of the wins weren't blow out wins where Gabriel sat on the bench in the fourth quarter. I think for that reason alone Lanning and co opted to run Gabriel sparingly because the team just wasn't super dominant in victory and they didn't want to run the risk of needing a back-up. I think the trend is to not run the QB and I believe that is what will probably continue next season. Stein just doesn't seem to want the QB has much as Dillingham did. However, if Moore and Novosad are super close in terms of ability... then maybe we'll see the coaching staff risk it a bit and run the QB more for the potential benefits.
