Charles Fischer Administrator No. 1 Share Posted yesterday at 09:22 PM A quote from today's Canzano article made me roll-my-eyes at first, but then I could not help but laugh. Are they taking lessons from Iran's Ayatollah, or Baghdad Bob? The conference’s overall strategy is evident. It aims to keep the Big 12 and ACC within view of the front windshield and prepare for whatever happens to college athletics in 2032 or so. Recent Pac-12 branding has been all about positioning. On Wednesday, Gould noted that “the Pac-12 has always been a top-five conference.” "We will be the Mother-of-All-Conferences." 1 1 Mr. FishDuck
JabbaNoBargain No. 2 Share Posted yesterday at 09:42 PM (edited) Posturing nonsense IMO. Simple question to ask any “PAC” fan. If your team was invited to any P4 conference today, would you want them to accept? I think we know the answer. That's a stretch. I'm sure they'll keep the "Conference of Champions" slogan too just because the conference existed when all those championships were won by those teams. So the conference won all those national championships right? 1

So the conference won all those national championships right? It’s all silly. No one outside of their footprint takes this conference seriously. It’s just another G6, perhaps top-2 G6, but still G6. The biggest suckers in this are probably BSU and SDSU. Somehow all their past desires to join the real PAC the last 20 years blinded them into joining. They could have accomplished more (without the legal fees) by staying put, which would have pressured the PIG2 to merge. 1

They probably didn't switch conferences if they weren't going to get something out of it. They weren't going to make it to a P2 (B1G and SEC) conference or even a lesser power conference (ACC and Big 12). But if the new Pac were willing to carve out something special for them then I could see it being worth it.
JabbaNoBargain No. 9 Share Posted 18 hours ago (edited) I think a unified west coast conference would have provided a lot more leverage and created the unquestioned #1 G6. Instead they have fractured tv deals and an old name to cling to. BSU and SDSU could have had all the leverage and gave it away. What were the PIG2 options going to be if the MWC had stayed fully together? They would have had no choice but to merge or go independent. It’s as if they thought they were getting an auto qualifier out of this move. Edited 18 hours ago by JabbaNoBargain

And I think they are shocked that they haven't been given one yet and won't receive one. They are trying to say that because of the Pac-12's legacy they deserve to be a power conference. But the only problem is that they don't have any of the power teams that made them a power conference. 1
DanLduck No. 11 Share Posted 8 hours ago I don't see the B1G, SEC or ESPN giving the new 'Pac12' a vote to being a power conference with an auto bid. G6 yes, but part if the 'Power5', never. How many of these 'Pac12' will even get votes for top 25 besides BSU? To get consideration, they will need 10+ wins and wins over Power 4 opponents. I see this conference with a lot of G5 parity, which means they will beat each other up and no one have lots of wins each year. Which means no votes. Keeping the Pac 12 name allows for keeping the previous earned millions$$ which will help pay for Beavers stadium renewal. But it will mean little to nothing on the national scale. Let's face it, even the old Pac12 with us, USuC and Udub got little respect east of the Rockies. Canzano is their only cheerleader. That's not saying much. 1

PittDuck No. 13 Share Posted 7 hours ago So, if we take a varsity football team and fill it with junior varsity players, we can the expect to compete at the varsity level, right? The state university conference is more than a little bit delusional and clownzano sucks it up.
