I think they called Cig not Lanning.

Or maybe they are going to save a buck by hiring away the UCLA staff mid season.

Lanning's buyout is super high. I saw it around 50mil. In the case of Penn State they just paid Franklin 50 mil to go away... They probably don't have another 50 mil to buy out Lanning and then turnaround and pay him bigger than Oregon.

Also I think Lanning has something built into his contract that if another program just wants Lanning to pick up the phone that is going to cost them.

Beyond that Lanning isn't picking up the phone.

The cost to replace Franklin right now is $56 Million Dollars. After the season is over it would be $48 Million.

That's a load of scratch to fundraise in order to dump a guy. I would imagine that the PSU fans who want him gone are hoping/wishing/praying that he finds another gig on his own --- which seems like a long shot to me.

Most contracts have a mitigation clause to subtract the annual pay of a new contract.

The best example of not doing this was Charlie Weiss. I think he was being paid more by Notre Dame not to coach than Kansas was paying him as their head coach.

The buyout on Franklin's side was $1.
