9 hours ago9 hr Administrator No. Seems like a trick question, right? Well, it’s not as simple in 2025. Winning the conference for the second straight season and earning a top seed in the College Football Playoff just doesn’t mean what it used to mean in years past. Overall, our Oregon football program has had a gritty yet successful reloading season through nine games. Close wins ...Does Oregon WANT to Make the BIG Championship? 4 hours ago4 hr No. I didn't think there was a question. You don't want to make the B1G Championship. It's an extra game with the chance to skip ahead to a slot that was 0-4 in last year's playoffs, or get beat badly enough to drop to a 9-12 seed play on the road slot. There's a world where coach Cig throws the game by blatantly resting his starters to keep them healthy and force the Playoff committee to discount the game enough that they stay a 5-8 seed. The conference championship games need to go in this current format. There needs to be a single bye week for each team in either the 6th or 7th week a single bye week after the 12th game then a single week of conference play-in games, no playoff byes for anyone.I hope Oregon wins out and stays in the 5-8 seed for a home game after a single bye week, same as their opponent. That's the best case scenario in this current format.
3 hours ago3 hr No. It's unlikely for us to make the game for sure. I would love to play it and win it but not at the expense of a better playoff run. The format needs to change for sure.
2 hours ago2 hr Moderator No. I don't think being the one seed was the problem last year as much as having tOSU being game one was. I think OBD would have beaten anybody and everybody else in the field last year. With that said my dream scenarios would be:Win the BIG and get a one or two seed.Get seeded 5-8 and get a home playoff game.Just get in the playoffs and hope for the best.
2 hours ago2 hr No. I remember the "push" for conference championship games to bolster resumes and have true conference champions, instead of tie-breakers; to be the "chosen ones" in the BCS, two team playoffs. Now with 12 going to 16 playoff spots you will start to see NFL-lite teams "resting their starters" for the playoff run (similar to NFL-Heavy)rather than risk injury for what is increasingly becoming a consultation prize (a conference championship).I would really like for the conference championships be part of the playoffs, maybe like what has been mentioned before, winners get a bye and losers get home game against "the field", but you now have played one more game than "the field", whom would be off on their own byes, during the conference championship games. Not much incentive to risk being second in CCG.So, most likely they will go away, again, and "conference championships" based once again on win-loss records and tiebreakers, with uneven scheduling do to the size of the mega-leagues, will diminish the prize even more.Hope they can figure it out, cuz working towards a conference championship throughout the year makes the in season games more significant, and probably more entertaining (Oregon/Iowa last week), than simple win-loss records at the end of the year.Go Quackers!
