Ducks to face one of the nation's top corners in Utah's Clark Phillips

Oregon's pass attack will square off with one of the nation's best pass defenses which features one of the top coverage players.

Utah ranks top in the Pac-12 in pass defense. They've allowed just 206.5 yards per game this season.

Only USC has thrown for more than 300 yards.

The Utes are strong as a unit, but have been aided greatly by the play of sophomore cornerback Clark Phillips III.

A second-team All-Pac-12 pick a year ago, Phillips has only upped his game in 2022. He leads the Pac-12 in interceptions with five.

Kyle Whittingham shares how he prepares for first-year coach Dan Lanning

“Just like we’ve done every week, you watch the film, the film doesn’t lie,” Whittingham said. “That’s what tells you what

you need to know, and what you have to defend, or what you have to attack, and how they’re going to attack you.”

“Injuries obviously, who’s available for him, who’s out. So there’s a lot of things that go into it but like I said, teams

seem to evolve during the course of the year and find out who they are and by this time you know exactly who they are.”

Fortunately, O has a pretty 'fair' running attack featuring a mobile QB which brings the RPO into play as well as the screens and down-field throws.  Maybe the Utes haven't been tested like they're going to be tested this time around?

3 keys to victory for No. 13 Oregon Ducks against No. 10 Utah Utes

The Oregon Ducks are in unfamiliar territory heading into their Saturday evening bout with the Utah Utes.

For starters, they are the lower ranked team for the first time since Week 1 of the season whey they faced the Georgia Bulldogs.

Factor in the uncertainty about the status of star quarterback Bo Nix, and you have a team

with their backs against the wall, set to face a team that took care of this team twice last season.

Still, there is plenty they can do to secure a victory in this one, including:

Oregon is in need of a win, and they may have to try and get one without their starting quarterback and best player, Bo Nix.

There are also several other factors that will play into the outcome of this one as well.

Here are our five biggest questions that the Ducks need to answer on Saturday:

Utah's defense has a tall task to stop high-powered Oregon offense

Weeks ago, Whittingham called the defense "soft" and was frustrated by the missed assignments

and poor tackling, especially against mobile quarterbacks that can extend plays with their legs.

It forced defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley to simplify his approach with the defense

and help the team play to their strengths, while emphasizes each player's assignment within the defense.

But none of that matters if Utah's defense returns to early-season form and allows Oregon to run wild.

Sans an injury report on Nix, Forsyth and Ryan Walk, we just have to trust the rest of the team, including Ty T, to rally around each other and play hard.  They will.

Oregon has better than a fighters chance in this one.  The above video on YouTube is a pretty good one and maybe it'll help buck up the spirits in time for what could prove to be the pivotal game of the season.  I'm not warm and fuzzy on this one but I'm not resigned to see it as a loss either.  GO DUCKS!

My warm and fuzzyness factor is based on who trotts out on offense in the first series.  If Bo and one of the injured OL guys are there, I'm pretty optomistic.  Otherwise, not so much.

‘November is for champions’: Can No. 10 Utah stay in Pac-12 race against No. 12 Oregon?

Though the Utes, the defending league champs, have dealt with injuries at key positions, they might be peaking at the right time.

“We’ve got to get through (Oregon) to get to the Pac-12 championship. That’s our goal.

We’ve just got to make sure we’re doing everything we can do to be ready for this week,” said quarterback Cam Rising.

“It’s our Super Bowl. We’ve got to go out there and execute. It’s a good football team and we’ve got to make sure that

our preparation is where it needs to be and at a high level and doing everything we can to be ready to go.”

Can Oregon Ducks limit Utah’s Dalton Kincaid, the most productive tight end in the country?

Utah’s leader in receptions, yards and touchdowns, Kincaid has 50 catches for 649 yards —

most among tight ends in the country — and seven scores entering Saturday’s game.

“He catches contested plays,” Oregon coach Dan Lanning said. “Plays that are supposed to be 50-50 balls aren’t 50-50 balls with him.

He has a big catch radius and obviously when they’re matched up, they’ll throw the ball to him even in traffic and he’ll still get it.”

ESPN's SP+ predicts the score of Oregon-Utah clash

The Ducks might not be hopeless without him, however. They still rank first in rushing success rate thanks to the work of Bucky Irving and Noah Whittington (combined: 1,451 yards, six TDs), and Utah’s run defense has been shockingly bad this season (100th in rushing success rate allowed).

Oregon’s solid run defense could throw a kink into Utah’s offensive plans at times, but Cam Rising should find opportunities through the air

against a defense that ranks 120th in passing success rate allowed and gave up 408 yards to Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. last week.

ESPN College GameDay crew picks winner between Oregon and Utah game

Trying to predict the outcome of a game when you don’t know who one of the quarterbacks is going to be is not a simple task.

That’s currently the case for this matchup between the Oregon Ducks and Utah Utes on Saturday night in Autzen Stadium.

Despite all of that, ESPN’s College GameDay crew was left picking a winner, with Ducks and Utes standing as one of the

most important games on the docket, with the winner getting an inside path to the Pac-12 Championship game.

Here is how they all picked on Saturday:

Oregon faces another top 10 third down offense in Utah; will Ducks show improvement?

Utah is the third team Oregon faces this season that allows less than one sack

per game and its fourth opponent in the top 10 nationally on third down.

For a UO defense ranked 111th in sacks and 128th on third down and allowing winning teams to convert 58.14% of the time,

this shapes up unfavorably on paper entering a clash in which a spot in the Pac-12 Championship game is effectively on the line.

Oregon also dealt with quarterback injury issues the last two times they hosted the Utes in 2015 (when Jeff Lockie replaced

We’ve seen Oregon struggle in the red zone at times this year, so if it is forced to move the ball
