Ducks get tough path in Pac-12 tournament as No. 4 seed

It’s been well established over the past few weeks that if the Oregon Ducks are going to secure a spot in the NCAA Tournament later this month and participate in March Madness for the first time since 2021, they will need to win the Pac-12 Tournament in order to get there.

Fortunately, the Ducks got a little bit of help in their path to a potential title, but they will have to take down some incredibly good teams in order to do so.

Check out the teams they would need to play against next week...

Dana Altman 'not sure' where Oregon stands entering conference tournament

Several teams, specifically the ones on the bubble, are taking note of their position for the NCAA Tournament.

Even with Oregon on the outside looking in, though, Dana Altman isn’t entirely sure, or at least isn’t very interested, in any opinions about where the Ducks are projected at the moment.

All Altman said he was worried about following his team’s 73-68 win over Stanford is that they have the momentum of three straight wins behind them as they enter the Pac-12 Tournament.

From there, he is focused on maintaining Oregon’s defensive success while also finding enough contributors on the offensive end.

KenPom gives Oregon 4th-best odds to win Pac-12 Tournament

Ahead of the start of the tournament, KenPom.com has released their odds on how far each team can go in the tournament. For Oregon, the Ducks might become the trendy dark horse.

KenPom projects No. 1 seed UCLA to win the league's Auto-Bid to the NCAA Tournament by winning tournament. UCLA's odds are the best at 47.1 percent. No. 2 seed Arizona is second at 24.7 percent.

Oregon checks in at the No. 4 spot with a 7 percent chance of winning the Pac-12 title. KenPom projects the Ducks a 58.4 percent chance of advancing past the quarterfinal round, and then a 16.6 percent chance of making the Pac-12 title game.

The last time a No. 4 seed won the Pac-12 Tournament was the 2007 Tournament when it was played at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. No. 4 seed Oregon beat the No. 3 seed 81-57. The No. 4 seed is 2-11 all-time in games against the No. 1 seed in the Semifinals.

Oregon hits Vegas hoping to stay a while as they search for wins

"It's just going to be a tough road. We've got some good teams in the league this year, we ahve a couple that are underrated as far as national perception is concerned," said head coach Dana Altman.

Oregon's quarterfinal opponent hasn't been set but that'll be decided Wednesday afternoon when No. 5 seed Washington State and No. 12 seed California play for the chance at the Ducks.

"You get yourself ready," Altman said of the challenge of preparing for a game without knowing the opponent. "We've got both teams scouted. We've played both of them recently. So we have some pretty good scouting on both of them. It's not much different when you've played both teams twice."

This year the Ducks went a combined 3-1 against the Cougars and Golden Bears. The lone loss was by three points on the road in February to Washington State.

How the Ducks match up with Washington State in Round 2 of Pac-12 Tournament

The 4-seeded Ducks will take on the 5-seed Washington State team after the Cougars took down California 69-52 in the first round down in Las Vegas.

Now the Ducks and Cougars will meet in the quarterfinals with a scheduled tip time of 2:30 pm PST on the Pac-12 Network. The two teams split their two meetings this season with each team winning on their home floor.

In order for the Ducks to advance past WSU, winners of eight straight, they’ll have to play better than they did in the Palouse where a late rally fell short.

Oregon men’s basketball preparing for ‘very difficult road’ at Pac-12 tournament

The Ducks got the benefit of a first-round bye but will still need three wins in three days to ensure a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

“There is no Friday if you don’t play well Thursday,” Altman said. “You lay it all out there, you’ll find the energy to play. You expend whatever you’ve got to expend to try to win a game as best you can on Thursday and then you’ll find enough energy to play Friday and if you’re fortunate to play Saturday, you’ll find enough energy to play there.”

I hope no one takes offense at this.  But I've seen enough of Richardson.  I can't wait for him to graduate.  These last two years of stumbling, bumbling, can't defend and can't shoot.  What else is there?

More of Barthelemy please.

Oregon hangs on for nailbiting win in Pac-12 Quarterfinals

A game that was heading towards a massive blowout in favor of the Oregon Ducks got flipped on its head in the second half. Oregon needed to play some of its best basketball of the year in the game's final four minutes to pull out the win.

The Ducks responded with maybe their best defense of the game holding the Cougars scoreless for the game's final 3:36 of time and then on offense going on a 7-0 scoring run in the final three minutes. The end result was a 75-70 win over the Cougars to advance to the Pac-12 Semifinals.

MBB Recap: Ducks hold off WSU comeback, advance to Pac-12 semifinal vs. UCLA

For the first 15 minutes of the game, it looked as if the Oregon Ducks were going to cruise into their semifinal matchup with the UCLA Bruins on Friday night. And then things got tight.

After building a 19-point lead in the first half, the Ducks allowed Washington State to come all the way back and eventually take a lead in the second half. It caused the Ducks to fight until the bitter end, and ultimately they were able to knock down some clutch free throws and pull out a 75-70 victory.

That was closer than it looked like it needed to be. Regardless, the Ducks beat WSU and advance to a semifinal matchup with UCLA.

Ducks Advance To Pac-12 Semifinals

Oregon raced out to the lead, endured a three-point barrage by WSU and made big plays down the stretch to win Thursday's quarterfinal.

"We did what we had to do to advance," UO coach Dana Altman said. "It could have been a little easier. … But this is a team that has hit 14 threes on six different occasions, and leads the league in three-point shooting. No lead is safe with them, and we knew that."

How Oregon came back to beat Washington State after leading by as many as 19 points

After having their chances to close the door on the Cougars multiple times and failing to do so, the Ducks found themselves down three with less than four minutes to play.

Oregon's defense held the Cougars scoreless for the game's final three minutes, N'Faly Dante scored the team's go-ahead basket and then created two Washington State turnovers to secure the 75-70 victory.

"Well, it was a heck of a game. I had put on the board before the game it's going to be a 40-minute fight," said Oregon head coach Dana Altman. "Got a lot of respect for Washington State, really experienced guards that can all shoot it. Gueye is a handful inside."
