I have been an avid Duck Fan for over 60 years. I feel terrible when we are done for the season. It takes me about a week I have found , to recognize the fact that even though we did not get as far as I wanted, the past 2 seasons have been 2 of the best and most enjoyable I have ever watched. Canada’s coach was not pleased with the 3 on 3 OT format. He said it was not a good way to finish a gold medal game. He must have forgot Canada won the 2010 gold medal vs. USA with a 4 on 4 OT format. I’ll take a 3 on 3 over the shootout format any day. If you look at both rosters Canada had a fairly decisive speed advantage which is crucial in 3 on 3 hockey. Conner McDavid is the fastest skater in the NHL. Nathan MacKinnon is third fastest and Cole Makar is the fastest defenseman in terms of acceleration in short bursts. All three were on the ice when Hughes scored the winner. If Jake Oettinger or Jeremy Swayman had been in goal for Team USA, Canada would have won 5-1 or 6-1. Ask any Bruins or Stars fan. They will all say the same thing.

I have a hazy understanding of the rules, but I know that up to 34 scholarships can be given, and that is also the roster limit. So they can be piece-meal the way they used to do it. For example giving a half-scholarship, and some NIL besides. Apparently we had to cut some good players that Waz wanted on the squad due to the 34 man roster limit. Home run helmet!

Been watching Duck football for over 50 years. Everyone wants to win. The ebb and flow of college football never ends. It is a big wallet type of game now, and most fans are just hitching a ride. Enjoy the ride.

Looking ahead to the Diamond Ducks games in Las Vegas, I was shocked to see the Arizona Wildcats have lost seven of eight games this season. They used to be one of the better teams in the old Pac-12. U.C. Irvine is 5-2, Vanderbilt at 6-2. While an 8-0 record looks impressive, our Ducks will be facing much better competition. These games will give us a better perspective of where they stand. Of the 23 pitchers on the team, Coach Wasikowski got 18 of them in the games these past two weeks. There are four more games on the schedule before B1G Ten games begin, starting with a road trip to West Lafayette to play the Purdue Boilermakers. They are not to be taken lightly. They just beat the Beavers 5-2 yesterday.
