I was worried the early season losses would hurt, and they did, it's probably a team that is talented enough to be a top 8 bid, but you simply can't lose games against bad opponents. I was confused at the lack of good non-conference opponents, and it honestly would have been better to lose some series on the road or played in some tournaments down south against quality opponents than to win series at home where you win two games by 10 runs but you lose one by a run. Time to schedule UC Irvine, maybe one of the Arizona teams, San Diego, can't be playing random midwest and northeast teams if we want to host a super regional.

Moving to the B1G was a big boost for Ducks football but did the Diamond Ducks no favors. So many losses to B1G baseball teams probably qualify as bad losses which is one reason the RPI wasn't higher. I also heartily agree with Charles and others that a strong attempt needs to be made to schedule more quality teams in the OOC portion of the schedule. This may require some real expenditure of resources however. While a series with Portland State or other nearby schools cost little, a trip to Texas LSU, or aTm requires many Benjamins. I know nothing about college baseball scheduling, but perhaps some of the expense could be mitigated by home and homes over successive seasons. Of course, one potential problem with my idea is that baseball is a small revenue generator compared to football and basketball. But I am sure that there are many quality out of conference teams available in Socal, Arizona, Utah, and perhaps Washington to improve the OOC schedule.

Stewart Mandel over at the Athletic tried to pooh pooh the 8 automatic playoff berths in the 16 team playoff format. I laughed because frankly I see at least one of those conferences getting five playoff berths every year. I'd rather see moves to bolster the lessor two conferences by featuring more regular season games versus the P2 teams. Ratings would rise, some of that money could be a stipend for the G5 annually. And frankly, the G5 need to have their own playoffs. It's more than obvious they will never advance beyond their first game. Especially now that they can't afford the $20M budgets.

They did drop to No. 8 which maybe is a clue, but in comparison to teams that got the 9, 10, 11 seeds how would Beavis compare? The "big wins" over Iowa turned out to be not so much. Iowa was leading the B1G entering the final week, and wasn't picked as an at-large.

Like I said earlier, I don't care if USC plays Notre Dame. I don't care if OBD plays Oregon State again. I would miss playing Washington. I've always been more fired up about that rivalry more than "the "Civil War", probably because it was civil. If Beavis won, it was annoying. I do think it was like a big brother playing a little brother. But Washington is that snotty neighbor across the street. More rivalries are starting, osu2, Michigan, Penn State. There's already a good one with Wisconsin. USC is still around but hasn't been a Rival for a while now.
