Ryan Day Talks Rose Bowl and Championship Game

I agree, and the scoreboard says Natty for Day in 2024. But he's still a coach that wins, and loses, with huge talent edge...and last year, a great OC. Let's see what the Day brings next season. -

Because of this game, Finebaum doesn't suggest, but declares, that both teams are viable for the CFP with 9 wins. Speaking on The Paul Finebaum Show, the veteran analyst highlighted the season-opening clash between Ohio State and Texas as a pivotal moment. “Take Ohio State or Texas. Both of those could get in with nine [wins] because they play each other to start the year,” Finebaum stated, suggesting that an early loss won’t doom either team’s playoff chances due to the strength—or relative weakness—of their remaining schedules. -

Ohio State and Michigan both do have wins over OBD, so, good for them. As a public service, it falls on me to let everybody know that on Saturday, Michigan beat Ohio State, 23-1. Not sure exactly how the run rule comes into play in baseball, but the game was called after 7 innings. After losing 4 in a row to OBD, the Rodents from Corvallis went to Hawaii, and have won the first two games, 11-4 and 3-2. Those darn Huskies took the first two games at Iowa, 4-3 & 3-1, but Iowa just won the 3rd game, 8-0. Next week, Oregon State at Iowa. - Today

After 7 years, and a move to the B1G, Oregon softball wins the championship again, Today's game had a bit of everything. Not really the time when you want to see cracks in the star pitcher's game, but hopefully they'll be sealed by tournament time. Yep, this Oregon team is fast, and aggressive, if one of the Luchar's get to 1st, it's only a matter of time and they'll be on 2nd. They hit the long ball too.

Ducks Seal 11th Series Win with Sunday Victory EAST LANSING, Mich. — Jason Reitz pitched 6.1 innings of one-run baseball as No. 6 Oregon won its 11th series of the season, beating Michigan State, 3-1, on Sunday at McLane Stadium. Reitz was dynamic, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out four. After giving up a hit to the Spartans' leadoff hitter, the junior retired the next 12 batters he faced. The Ducks (33-13, 16-8 Big Ten) were able to provide some run support early, scoring once in both the second and third innings before Anson Aroz added an insurance run in the ninth with a solo home run. All three of Oregon's runs came with two outs. How It Happened: Michigan State (24-21, 10-14 Big Ten) got its leadoff man aboard and moved him to second with a sacrifice bunt. Reitz was able to pitch a ground ball to shortstop, keeping the runner on second, before getting out of the inning with his first strikeout of the day with the count full. With two outs and a full count in the top of the second, Maddox Molony reached on a hit by pitch to bring Burke-Lee Mabeus to the dish. The freshman swung at the first pitch he saw, ripping a double down the left field line to score Moloney from first. Jason Reitz at Michigan State In the third, Parker Stinson singled to right field and was able to advance to second thanks to a throwing error by the Spartans' right fielder. Stinson moved over to third when Jacob Walsh grounded out to the first baseman, then scored the Ducks' second run of the day on a wild pitch. After Reitz retired 12 batters in a row, Michigan State was able to get the leadoff man on base with a single up the middle, but Mabeus sent him back to the dugout, picking him off at first. Reitz pitched another ground ball and a strikeout to get out of the inning unscathed. The Spartans led off the sixth with a double, moved the runner to third on a sac bunt, and brought him home on a sac fly to left. Reitz faced the first two batters in the sixth, allowing a leadoff walk before getting the out on another sacrifice bunt. Cole Stokes entered in relief with one away and a runner on second but left him stranded, retiring the next two batters. With runners at first and third and two away in the eighth, Stokes tallied his third strikeout of the day to keep the Ducks in the lead. Aroz then doubled the Ducks' advantage in the top of the ninth, crushing his 13th home run of the year down the left field line. Seth Mattox came in to pitch in the bottom of the frame, retiring all three batters he faced en route to his fourth save of the season. On Deck: The Ducks return to PK Park on Tuesday for the first of two games against Saint Mary's (6:05 p.m., B1G+). -

Ryan Day Talks Rose Bowl and Championship Game

I firmly believe that it was CK's involvement that brought Day his first championship. Look what Chip was able to do at Oregon, with far less tallent. Ryan Day may have made the best decision of his career to bring Chip on board, but it might also be the ultimate telling, seeing how Chipper is gone now, so the one off with Chip might say in the future all we need to know about Ryan Day. OBD will get there the right way under DL. 🪿 -

It's Week 5, when the rubber starts to meet the B1G conference road. Before Week Five, we have these out-of-conference (OOC) games versus our Advisory Committee 'buddies' to look forward to. (The Sporting News Preseason Top 25 Rankings are used below.) Week 1 - August 30, 2025 - No. 1 Texas at No. 2 Ohio State. If this rematch of the 2025 Cotton Bowl Playoff game was not already B1G enough, Columbus, Ohio, where Lee Corso made his first headgear pick, Brutus to win, is the likely spot for the venerable Corso to make his last pick before retirement. It's No. 2 Ohio State that is favored by -4.5 to win this game. 20 to 22 million CFB fans are expected to tune into this matchup. Week 2 - September 6, 2025, No. 19 Michigan -2.5 at NR Oklahoma. January 1, 1976 - Orange Bowl - Oklahoma 14, Michigan 6. That's all, folks, for games played between Michigan, the college program with the most wins, 1,012, and Oklahoma, the program with the longest win streak, 47 games from 1953 through 1957, before being upset in Norman by Notre Dame. The Oklahoma coach during 'The Streak' was Bud Wilkinson, who played on Minnesota's three championships in a row teams. Week 3 - September 13, 2025 - NR Wisconsin +16.5 (Gulp!) at No. 9 Alabama Hide the Badgers Women and Children! In addition to the most difficult conference schedule in 2025, the Fickle Finger of Fate, and a sadistic AD, add this game to the Badgers' coach Luke Fickle's already hot seat. On to the B1G Week 5, where it would have been serendipitous to have five big B1G games, but the four games below should give OBD fans a B1G Time Show. September 27, 2025 - No. 21 Indiana at NR Iowa - The second difficult game in a row for a Hoosiers team that plays Illinois the week prior in Bloomington. Indiana and Iowa should be no worse than 3-1 coming into this game. And if Indiana defeats No. 14 Illinois the week prior, and Iowa can win on the road at No. 24 Iowa State in Week 2, both teams could be 4-0 with both ranked in the Top 25. September 27, 2025 - No. 2 Ohio State at NR Washington - If the Buckeyes get past the Longhorns in Week 1, they will come into Seattle 3-0, a Buckeyes Bye before this game, and the likely No. 1 ranked team in the nation. UW was undefeated last season in Husky Stadium, and if UW does not drop two in a row to the Pac-7 + Gonzo Wazzu Cougars, this will be a matchup of undefeated teams. September 27, 2025 - NR USC at No. 14 Illinois. Coming off its game at Indiana the week before, this will be another Prove-It Game for the Illini, a team that returns 18 starters from last season. USC went 1-5 last season in one-score games. SC took Penn State into overtime and had Notre Dame on the ropes before throwing two costly interceptions at the goal line, both returned by the Irish for 90+ yard TDs. With games versus 'old friend' Clay Helton's Georgia Southern, at Purdue, Michigan State, and the home opener against MO. State (No Larry or Curly? ), 4-0 USC will come into Champaign, ready to drink post-game champagne and move into the Top 25. September 27, 2025 - No. 6 Oregon at No. 3 Penn State - Week 5's Main Event! At least SC plays the Domers OOC, Penn State plays Nevada, FIU, and Villanova in Happy Valley, and takes an undeserved 3-0 nap before the 4-0 (knock on a decoy) Mighty Oregon Ducks, accompanied by Sir Charles and other OBDers, come to town. Vegas has OBD -3.5. 10,000 games were simulated on ESPN, with Oregon winning 53.7% of the games. (Don't ask me what happened in the .03% game PSU won .) A White Out game would be a boon. Unfortunately, I think the kickoff will happen at B1G Noon . OBD, TCB in Weeks 1-4, please, beginning with a Beat Down of the Bobs! Let's have more B1G Fun 13-0, anyone?

I also have to do a "shout-out" to Carter Garate, who had three sensational plays at third base where the his athleticism and speed to the outs by the smallest margins. One was a bunt that he barely got to in time, picked it up with one hand and whipped it to first for an out. Another was barely getting a bouncing hit that looked it would get past him, but he whirled around and snagged it on the bounce on the backside of his glove. He then spun and fired to first in one motion for a blockbuster out! Really impressive... Doing the "whirl" against Beavis... -

Oregon got VERY fortunate with the use of their pitchers. The first game was only Grayson Grinsell, and in the second game it was only Collin Clarke and Ian Umlandt for the duration. In this game we saw Jason Reitz go 6.1 innings, Cole Stokes only go for 1.2 innings, and Seth Mattox close the final inning. This is crucial, as the Ducks have a two-game midweek series with St. Marys before taking on the Bastard-Huskies beginning on Friday. Having rested arms for the midweek is happening, and Oregon is lucky that all the pitchers did a great job this weekend. Our pitchers are improving at the RIGHT TIME! -

Ducks will come home to play St. Mary's, then Washington. Then, finish the regular season at league leader Iowa. Iowa has non-conference games (Oregon State) before hosting Oregon. Since the B1G Tournament is in Omaha, will be curious to see if Oregon comes home from Iowa, or stays in the Midwest. -

2-1 Ducks after eight innings. Oregon is living TOO dangerously, as it takes so little for Michigan State to win this game. Stokes plinked a batter, and then gave up a hit. But he came through with runners on the corners to keep the inning scoreless. -

2-1 Ducks after six innings, as the first Michigan State batter caught a pitch and got a double out of it. Then the Spartans sacrificed a grounder and fly ball to score him. Ducks gotta get the bats going! The MSU pitcher does not have a great ERA, but all that matters is how he is pitching TODAY. -

2-0 Ducks after five innings, as Reitz continues to hold them scoreless. A Michigan State batter did get a hit, but catcher Coen Niclai fired to first base after a pitch and delivered a perfect placement for Jacob Walsh to apply the tag and pick-off. Ducks have been doing this extremely well lately! Reitz has been great, and he only has 64 pitches after five innings, thus he could go deep into the game. He is hitting his fastball that is tough with his huge from looming over batters, but he also has a slider that makes the ball trajectory tough to follow. Then he'll throw in a curve-drop ball that leaves them whiffing at the air.
