Jonathan Smith Taking a Cool 33 Million With Him Someplace...
Ridiculous!!! Here's the record of (M)is(S)ed U since 2016. '16-3 wins, '17-9 wins, '18-7 wins, '19-6 wins, '20 3 for 7 due to Covid, '21-10 wins, '22-5 wins, '23-4 wins, '24-5 wins, '25-4 wins. 29 wins in 7 years before JS. That's barely 6 wins per year. That's been the standard of Missed U football. Nothing has changed...yet. Did JS get NIL money to help him with getting above average players? (This is a rant)- If you don't bring NIL money you won't make the playoffs...period! You may not even become bowl eligible. Want proof? Look at the top 12 teams right now for the playoffs. The average roster payout is north of $20 million every year! What does this tell us? There is a natural evening out of the have and have nots since NIL took hold. It's not done either. Probably another 4-5 years to see who can consistently fund their own NIL. MSU has received a heavy donation of $50 million but its pennies compared to Oregons well healed boots. PSU, The little o, and Mitch-again aren't going anywhere. Absolutely absurd MSU got rid of JS after 3 years. MSU standard is NOT 10 wins, it's barely 6. He's been basically par for the course and, IMO, was actually building to become more consistently a bowl team. He needs a minute to install all his own players. Takes 4-5 years. Don't make me tell you what I really think.

So, Which Do You Prefer, a Home Playoff Game or a Bye into the Quarter Finals?
HOME PO game! One of Ohio State/Indiana will host the Rose Bowl, with the other hosting the Cotton or Orange Bowl, with the Sugar Bowl reserved for the SEC champ. Get a win under the belt in Autzen and advance at least one step further in the PO than last season. This is a young football team that will have a tough bowl matchup in the 2nd round in Dallas, Miami, or New Orleans. I want the team to experience at least one PO win. The semifinal sites this season will be played in the Fiesta and Peach bowls. Teams from Dixie reap the reward of this so-called PO, a front for a bowl extravaganza.

No play and knock the rust off. I was at the first PAC 12 Championship Game, not sure anything can get colder.

Critical CFP questions
Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but if Duke beats Virginia in the ACC title game, the ACC will be left out of the playoff!!!! James Madison and the American conference champion will both be ranked higher as the 4th and 5th highest ranked conference champions to get it. This is the ACC Doomsday scenario. Both Texas and Miami needed more chaos to get in and it didn’t happen. Their best hope is that Alabama gets punished for losing the SEC title game. The fortunate thing for the loser of the B1G title game is that Oregon is setting the floor for their drop in the rankings. As long as the game is competitive, they will remain ranked higher than Oregon which could be anywhere from 3-5.

So, Which Do You Prefer, a Home Playoff Game or a Bye into the Quarter Finals?
What ultimately matters is the opponent you’re matched up with. As we learned last year, even if you’re perfect, you have no control and could land in a bad matchup with a hot team. I don’t think a home playoff game at Autzen in late December weather conditions is going to be nearly as sexy as everyone thinks. However, pummeling the ACC or American conference champion is a great use of energy. Without understanding the full extent of the injury situation, it’s purely speculation on what the doctor is asking for. On facing Ohio St, I’d rather take them on in a semi-final. If you’re going to catch them with their guard down, that’s the time to do it.

I'm not giving them the W against Indy just yet.

So, Which Do You Prefer, a Home Playoff Game or a Bye into the Quarter Finals?
Depends on the year. For THIS season it would be best if the Ducks can back their way into a bye (which they could easily do if either Georgia or Texas Tech lose their conference championship games). They have lots of injuries (Dakorian Moore, GB Jr, Stewart, multiple OL, etc), that I'd take as many days off as possible. It would be great this year because they would potentially be getting a bye WITHOUT having to play the B1G championship game. But last season the Bye was stupid, because it wasn't a real bye week. When you have to play in the conference championship game, then you'd not actually getting any additional time off, because you had to play an additional game ahead of the playoffs.

Contending for a playoff spot is what they expected. It took Smith third year at OSU to get it in the right direction. Every program expects instant turnaround or continuation. They look at Lanning and Cignetti and say... "We want that" but they're the exception. Lanning inherited a good roster but needed to completely overhaul it for his desired team. And Cignetti just transferred over a ton of guys from his previous team and did an instant rebuild which is incredible. Still want to see the Hoosiers lose... But I can respect what he's done. Most coaches can't turn around and put together a winning team in year one.

First round game at Autzen. Get those injured guys back on the field and warmed up for a good run. A month off with a bye is a LONG time and for someone like Dak who has missed all of November his last game would have been 2 months ago at that point and now it's against a team that had a warm up game. Let's have the warm up. Especially if we are the no. 5 seed and will probably need to go throw Ohio State to reach the championship game.

Rags to Riches - FINALLY, for Dante Moore
Sadiq did not have a good day. The pass end zone TD pass that he caught out of bounds was a slightly off target throw by Moore. But Sadiq had several passes in his hands that he dropped that would have been for good gains. Also... McClellan had a catch that wasn't. Or a PI that wasn't called. Moore felt off for a lot of that game but it wasn't completely his fault. A few more completed balls and he might have found that rhythm.

It would have to do with which bracket path puts us in the most advantageous position. Tend to agree with FD that no Buckeyes until the last game would be best.

The magnitude of OBD intercepting Williams, Jr TWICE (in be-fuskled Stadium, where that had never happenedin his budding career), seems to be lost in many of the national narratives.

Rags to Riches - FINALLY, for Dante Moore
Assuming Dante returns for '26, he could be scary good. With a healthy receaving and rushing corps, and an O-line anywhere near this season's standard, the offense could potentially be a monster.

Have to agree with Charles... Hopefully it would allow Oregon to resurrect a couple of currently unavailable players from injured reserve status. If not, #5-6 is probably OBD best option. It could potentially give an opportunity for the reserves to shine.

If we could move up eventually to a number three seed, then I would take the bye. I just don’t want to face Ohio State until the finals…

Critical CFP questions
How about the team that lost its head coach, and apparently also its O-coordinator today? Ole Miss. A&M lost to Texas, which was the only team A&M faced in the upper tier of the final SEC standings. Didn't get much publicity, but A&M's conference schedule was comparable to the ease of Indiana's last season.

Agreed. A project like Michigan State would be a four or five year turnaround, but the patience factor is so extreme, and the expectations of a miracle…are crazy.
