The Ducks Have Roster Depth Like Never Before
Thank you, David. Another in-depth article from a writer most certainly not out of his depth. Recruiting, from high school and the portal, is paying (right, Mike Gundy 😁) off. In today's CFB where you have to win three or four games on the way to a title, talent and depth are critical to winning it all. There's no need to revisit 1/1/25 other than to note that we usually learn more from failure than we do success. This team is focused. This Saturday, playing in front of 12,000 fans on the shores of Lake Michigan, will be a flash back for many players to the glory days of high school. OBD Bobbed Bob's Cats, and Lassoed the Cowboys. Wake Up for a '9 AM kickoff' men, and Stone Preston and the Wildcats.

Offense Strategy: To Reveal Or Not To Reveal?
I hear about various strategies while watching/talking football; many discussed on this forum. Recently saw a post that highlighted how multiple/dynamic the offense has been these first two games, and all the different ways Will Stein is attacking. My untrained eye watching the first two games would confirm that the offense looks way more varied than last year's version. This got me thinking. What is better?: To Reveal: Open the playbook and get real, live reps against competition. Would be a challenge for opposing defenses to prepare for that multiple of a defense, but future opponents will see what the offense has to offer. May be easier to implement misdirection for defenses that are overloaded and "think" they've seen this before. Not To Reveal: Keep the playbook vanilla throughout the year except for more meaningful games, and then unleash on unsuspecting foes. Downside to this, IMO, is the lack of live game reps for essentially introducing a significantly new offense (not completely new). And this was suspected to be happening last year, but didn't really materialize, so perhaps this is harder to implement? What are your thoughts?

Does the Team Seem Different This Year? (Coaching)
I'm not into abstract art. I see a mess of colors and no discernable outlines and I just see a mess. Alabama got pushed around and humiliated by a two win team that had to integrate 20 new starters. I don't care if they scored a hundred vs ULM, IBM, or IBS. They looked DOA on both sides in a game they had all off-season to prepare for. Texas lost to a team and didn't look all that impressive in comparison to the team that beat them the prior week. SECPN is a joke. Their polls are a joke, and their analysts are a joke. The only problem is the joke isn't funny. I'm embarrassed as a fan of an SEC program, but as a college football fan that used to love watching ESPN I'm even more disappointed that the largest network is so bias. They don't have the same credibility or viewing enjoyment. I miss Stuart Scott, Rich Risen, Dan Patrick and all those old Sportscenters that gave me the memorable highlights with that music and funny lines.

Statistical anomaly. Pick and choose what you think is important and make up an equation. FPI and SP+ I think of tendencies. They are paint by number pictures. They aren't going to produce a Monet, Picasso or Van Gogh.

The Ducks Have Roster Depth Like Never Before
Thanks David for this article. I totally agree with your assessment. What’s interesting is analysts across the nation are taking notice along with Oregon’s trajectory in the polls and in the BIG conference. Rivals’ Justin Hopkins captured the shift in momentum, writing, “I think Oregon is having a snowball effect, but not in the bad way. I think the snowball effect we’re seeing is the buy in from these players. You can see they were pushed and challenged all Spring and Fall…These guys are all elevating the level of play because they are doing the little things that make good teams great.” Hopkins pointed to the program’s depth, noting players understand their starting jobs are at risk because “the guy behind them might be just as good.” Hopkins added, “With the impressive wins it is really hard not to allow your expectations to shift… it’s really difficult not to get excited based on what we are seeing on the field. Sure the real test is in Happy Valley in a couple of weeks but Oregon so far has aced the eyeball test.” Analyst weighs in on if Dan Lanning's Oregon’ snowball effect could be natty boundAnalyst weighs in on if Dan Lanning's Oregon’ snowball ef...Two weeks, two blowouts, and a surge to No. 4 in the AP poll have Oregon buzzing. The Ducks Have Roster Depth Like Never Before
2024 saw Oregon rack up 13 wins and a B1G championship, but the 2024 team had surprisingly little depth. When Matthew Bedford was lost before the season started, the offensive line was in disarray for two weeks. This season feels completely different; this season, “next man up” doesn’t feel like cliche, but a reality. Even Mr. FishDuck took a break ... The DUCKS Have Roster Depth Like Never Before

Texas number two and Alabama number four? Is this Finebaum again? Notre Dame lost to Miami and they are nine spots higher. Texas is ahead of the team that beat them last week and Alabama got blown out vs a team not even in the top twenty yet they are fourth. Auburn and Missouri are ahead of Utah and LSU. Florida doesn't deserve to be in the top 25 after that crap show Saturday. I can't take this nonsense seriously. It's ESPN SEC propaganda, I'm only shocked that they actually have a non SEC team number one.

So all players are Lannings guys. All buy in to his "team " philosophy. We are seeing the results. This year's team is different, cuz they're all Lannings boys. We need to change our thinking as Duck fans, cuz these guys are all buying in to the Lanning philosophy: team first. Look at the blocking, the sacrifice (Noah's block on blitz), down field blocking, etc. These guys want everyone to succeed. Raise can be a BIG year. My opinion: Dante is the guy to lead us to a Natty. BUT, Austin Novosad can get it done too. We are in great shape!

The PAC 2 Have Gotten Worse At a Breathtaking Pace
Academics is also what nixed the Oklahoma entry in 2012 to the PAC as well. Imagine a world where Texas and Oklahoma join the league. My only question is if Texas would try their power move with that terrible Longhorn network on the Pacific Coast with the likes of USC. We know that nobody in the Big 12 was going to stand up to them, not even Oklahoma. Which to me makes Oklahoma look weak. Imagine Michigan or Ohio State letting the other have their own network and forcing it on the entire B1G.

Does the Team Seem Different This Year? (Coaching)
I'm glad it's not just me! Just the overall vibe and the visuals look very different than last season's start. I can only theorize that it's a combination of a couple things: The young coaching staff is maturing and continuing to learn from past mistakes. The overall makeup of the roster is primarily Dan Lanning high school recruits, most of which have been in the system at least 1-2 years. The roster talent level is mind-bogglingly high and best of all, looks to be committed to the program culture. Additionally, I believe it was mentioned that Will Stein had simplified the offensive playbook this time around which probably allowed for all the new starters to get up to speed more quickly. It's probably why we're seeing so many WRs and RBs all having some level of success right out of the gate.
