  2. This is one of the few advantage of being the #1 seed, I guess, is knowing what you have to do to win and being able to get some backup pitches some tournament experience while starters get some extra days of rest going into the post season.
  3. Today
  4. Oregon is a power in track and field. UCLA has an awesome swimming and volleyball program. Since moving out West I've discovered the passion for football isn't as rabid, but the depth of the athletic programs out here is second to none. I know what water polo is now. The B1G traditionalist probably has no idea what Olympic sports means as far as it goes with collegiate athletes. I really didn't as I primarily care about football and occasionally basketball if the Gators have a great squad. In the SEC many fans do care about swimming, volleyball, softball and baseball along with track and field. But I personally really only pay attention to those things during the Olympics.
  5. Good gosh…the Michigan State game is truly a throwaway. The result does not matter, so yes, hold Grinsell for Friday. Start freshmen against Michigan State, and no valued relievers?
  6. A month ago, Oregon won the Big Ten Tournament and Northwestern was fifth. The Ducks best golfer Kiara Romero struggled a bit in this tournament. Not sure why. She was Big Ten golfer of the year, and low medalist in that tournament. But, she did not have her "A game" this weekend.
  7. You are correct. If the three teams in the pod are tied 1-1, the highest seed advances. Pool A 4:00 pm PT – Tues – Nebraska beat Michigan St (5-4) 4:00 pm – Thurs – Oregon vs Michigan St 4:00 pm – Fri – Oregon vs Nebraska Noon – Sat - Pool A winner vs Pool D winner The Ducks must now definitely beat Nebraska, otherwise the Huskers become 2-0. Theoretically, the Ducks could use their No. 2 pitcher vs Michigan State, and hold their No. 1 pitcher for Nebraska. Especially since the Nebraska pitching staff will have an almost 72 hour rest. But, using No. 1 on Friday means he isn't available at Noon on Saturday. This scheduling seems almost as screwed up as the CFP approach of having 1-4 seeds with the worst opportunity??
  8. So if I understand it, and that’s not certain… Regardless of our game with Michigan State, the game with Nebraska decides who goes to the semifinals? Because even if we lost to Michigan State, but beat Nebraska, we would be tied with the cornhuskers, and the Spartans, but would advance as the higher seed. Although… If if we beat the Spartans, and lose to Nebraska and we are tied again with the cornhuskers and would advance automatically? I have not got the rules of all this down yet!
  9. Michigan State is leading 4-3 over Nebraska, it's the bottom of the 9th, 2 outs, runner on 2nd, Nebraska hitter sends a lazy fly ball to left field, Spartan LF has it, then it pops out of his glove, player on 2nd scores, ties it, 4-4. In the bottom of the 10th, Michigan State infield in a shift, but Nebraska's leadoff hitter somehow gets the ball to roll past the 4, 5 & 6 into the OF, two straight strike outs, but the next gets a single, Nebraska scores and wins, 5-4.
  10. The invitational golf match Stanford hosts every year is named The Wally Godwin Invitational. Wally was the coach at Northwestern before he took the job at Stanford. Luke Donald, European Ryder Cup Captain in 2023 and will be the Captain again in 2025, played for Wally at Northwestern. US Open winner Matt Fitzpatrick is also a Northwestern graduate. Northwestern Men's team has won the B1G Men's Golf Championship nine times, including the 2024 championship. Stanford won a national championship under Wally. On that team was the Oregon golf coach Casey Martin, Notah Begay, and some guy named Tiger Woods.
  11. The star pitcher for Michigan State, and the B1G Pitcher of the Year, Joseph Dzierwa, started against Nebraska and went deep into the game. He left after 105 pitches, so he won't be pitching against Oregon on Thursday. MSU was up 4-3 a few minutes ago...
  12. Ducks lost to Northwestern 3-2... Northwestern and Golf? Congrats to them, and good for the B1G...
  13. Thanks for contacting the sports information director for baseball and giving us an update on the pitching issues concerning the Ducks and Bruins. As you stated, the tournament would be nice to win but the focus is on the regionals next week. Highly unlikely, but Oregon and UCLA could miss out on the championship game and still be in the regionals. However, all the other schools competing in the tournament have to win out in order to make a regional. For them, I would think it would be all hands on deck and they would use any pitcher at their disposal to possible win it all.
  14. Hate to say it but strength of schedule hasn't mattered for awhile... Or has been a myth. The SEC was exposed last year and they just pounded their chest and said the SEC is better by default so all their teams are better... Therefore better strength of schedule. It's all about media hype and number of wins.
  15. Oregon is leading in three matches to two...but five holes to play yet. Anyone's match...

  17. Sort of? Two strongest conferences get the most teams in. Seems to generally be assumed 10-2 in the SEC/B1G is better than 10-2 in the ACC/B12, but the sample size isn’t large. Would ND ever qualify at 9-3?
  18. Starting to regret they ever invited us to the party? You can just never be too careful, can you?
  19. Since the entire topic of the thread was about Conference championships, I’m not certain why the capital cup was brought into the discussion…
  20. Does strength of schedule even matter anymore, or just the number of wins?
  21. The Capital One standings are only about how a team finishes in the sport. It has zero to do with conference finishes. Those standings do reflect teams with many sports, but you do have to finish in the top 10 to get any points. Just because a school has 100 sports, it doesn't just give the school points in the standings. The Ducks are one of the best Universities for bang for the buck. Yes, the spring sports will change those standings and likely improve the Ducks rankings.
  22. Early Enrollee Spring Rewind: Dorian Brew Here is a breakdown of what Oregon true freshman Dorian Brew showed during his first spring football camp. https://247sports.com/college/oregon/article/oregon-football-dorian-brew-ducks-football-spring-football-250123948/
  23. Huge for the freshman to get the job done under match play-off pressure. Well done An!
  24. Urban Meyer Makes Bold Claim On Big Ten Vs. SEC Rivalry Urban Meyer, the legendary college football coach, believes that the top teams in the Big Ten like the Ohio State Buckeyes, Michigan Wolverines, Penn State Nittany Lions, and Oregon Ducks are better than SEC programs like the Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs, Texas Longhorns, and LSU Tigers. Urban Meyer Makes Bold Claim On Big Ten Vs. SEC Rivalry WWW.SI.COM Before becoming a college football analyst for Fox Sports, coach Urban Meyer has had a taste of both the Big Ten Conference and Southeastern Conference through
  25. An Sends Oregon To NCAA Semifinals CARLSBAD, Calif. – Oregon advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Women's Golf Championships for the second year in a row Tuesday as freshman Tong An won on a second playoff hole to secure a 3-2 victory over Texas and keep the Ducks' national-title hopes alive at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa. No. 2 seed Oregon will face No. 3 seed Northwestern in the semifinals beginning at 2:05 p.m., with the winner advancing to Wednesday's national championship match. Golf Channel will have live coverage of the semifinals beginning at 3 p.m. After sophomores Kiara Romero and Ting-Hsuan Huang won their matches to put two points on the board for the Ducks, the Longhorns earned two points of their own to bring the match down to An and Texas' Lauren Kim. An was 4 up through 10 holes before Kim won four of the next five to pull the match even. The match remained tied going to the 18th and An stuck her approach shot to set up a birdie putt to win the match, but rolled it just left of the cup to send the match back to the par-3 16th for a playoff hole. An and Kim both hit the green on 16 and An had another putt for the win, but again just missed. The pair went to the 17th for a second playoff hole, and both players found the fairway off the tee. Kim's approach was just off the back of the green while An landed hers in the middle before lagging her birdie putt up to just a few feet. Kim's putt from the fringe raced past the hole, and she missed the comebacker to give An a third shot at winning the match for the Ducks. She buried the putt in the middle of the cup as her teammates erupted in excitement. The Ducks were moving on. Romero was the first point on the board for Oregon, recovering from a slow start after being 2 down through three holes to win, 3&1 over Bohyun Park. The Big Ten Golfer of the Year battled back to 1 down through eight holes before winning the next four to take a commanding 3 up lead, and she was 2 up through 16 before winning the 17th to secure the point. Huang was 1 down through eight holes before draining a long birdie putt on No. 9 to pull all square. The sophomore caught fire from there, making another long putt on No. 10 to fuel a run of five straight holes won to take a 4 up lead. Texas' Angela Heo won at No. 14 to get a hole back, but Huang matched her shot-for-shot over the next three holes to win, 3&2, and set the stage for An's dramatics. NCAA Quarterfinal – No. 2 Oregon def. No. 7 Texas, 3-2 Kiara Romero (Oregon) def. Bohyun Park (Texas), 3&1 Tong An (Oregon) def. Lauren Kim (Texas), 1 up (20 holes) Cindy Hsu (Texas) def. Suvichaya Vinijchaitham (Oregon), 1 up Farah O'Keefe (Texas) def. Karen Tsuru (Oregon), 1 up Ting-Hsuan Huang (Oregon) def. Angela Heo (Texas), 3&2
