  2. Pretty spot on. IMO - No matter what regulations old people start tossing around to feel better about themselves, the end result will be the same. The top-20 from 10 years ago will pretty much look the same 10 years from now.
  3. It's a way of trying to make paying players sound palatable. There's been a wink wink under the table payment plan in place since the Pony Express. The NCAA would go after certain cases just to make themselves feel better, but I've seen kids from downtrodden Orange Blossom Trail driving around in Jaguars, Lambos, and H2's back in the late 2000's around campus. I could barely afford gas for my beat up old Nova after buying things like textbooks and things the GI Bill didn't cover when I was in college.

  7. Half of the questions are B1G questions. However, No. 1 is asking whether Arch Manning will justify Arch Madness and lead Texas to a title. I wish OBD and the B1G would get the same attention from their broadcast partners; something akin to ESPN pouring sugar on the SEC. Compared to the SEC, Fox hides its CFB coverage under a bushel. This is also the case when trumpeting upcoming broadcasts and broadcasting many B1G games at High Noon and not Prime Time. The Big Ten Network did an excellent job of covering B1G Media Days, but ESPN has many more subscribers who watched SEC Media Days. https://www.foxsports.com/stories/college-football/what-10-biggest-on-field-questions-2025-college-football-season

  9. Why Hasn’t Oregon Ducks Coach Dan Lanning Named Starting Quarterback Yet?Oregon Ducks coach Dan Lanning has not officially named a starting quarterback, however Dante Moore has all the tools and support of his teammates. What is Lanning looking for in the quarterback competition and does he have a timeline of when he will announce? Oregon's leading tackler, linebacker Bryce Boettcher and Moore have developed a strong friendship this offseason through country music and golf. The two are stepping into leadership roles as the Ducks look to defend their Big Ten title. "He's very authentic to himself and he has a lot of confidence, but he's not arrogant either," Boettcher told Amaranthus. "He's humble as well. And the way he puts touch on his ball when he throws it is amazing. I'm excited for him." Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq can't help but smile when he talks about Moore. "Raw talent. Being honest with you, he can make just about any throw there is, and he's capable of just about anything," Sadiq told Amaranthus. "On top of that, he's just a great human, and he has a great ability to connect with the guys." 16. Upon further review, here's the summary of this piece ... Bill Connolly: "Yes, I work for ESPN, but I only have 12 SEC teams ranked in the top 25, so unlike the FPI, which has 13 teams in the top 25, my projections are not biased. The SEC going 1-5 against the B1G in the postseason simply shows the Superior Everywhere Conference could not get fired up for games against lesser competition." 😜 With all due respect, Bill, superior roster rankings do not ipso facto equate to wins. ASU gets a well-deserved targeting call against Texas, and it's ASU versus Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl. It's nice that Sankey, after his use of the FPI poll to justify playing 8 conference games, can fall back on Billy's SP+. 😴 However, an SEC team winning it all in 2025-26 will, for me at least, be no surprise. It's fun to jest with our Advisory Committee buddies, but the SEC should never be overlooked. Like the B1G champ this season in the Rose Bowl, the SEC champ will have an easier opening game in the Sugar Bowl and hopefully, have a healthy 1st string QB playing ball.

Bill Connelly's SP+ rankings closed with a whimper after last season's bowl games. Bama, after a loss to 5-loss Michigan, was ranked 4th. Ole Miss, with a first-round draft choice at QB, defeated a Duke team without its starting QB. This lifted Ole Miss to a 10-3 record and SP+ 2nd place. Texas, which I thought lost to Ohio State last season, finished No. 1 in the ESP+N rankings. 21. So let’s beat this dead horse some more. How is paying a kid $2M for his name, likeness and image, when less than a million people know his name, never see his image, or anything of his likeness? Everyone knows who Shedeur Sanders is. Even people who don’t follow football. How is some no name kid making more money than Sanders for NIL if he’s a no name ? I think this should all start with the proper definition ( legal?) definition of what NIL actually is. Perhaps the Supreme Court should decide. Whatever this is, I sure don’t see multi million dollar payouts as using a kid’s name, likeness or image.
  22. Though I believe the lawsuit will come officially from the players, as they are the injured party with standing as they are the ones losing the right to sell their NIL, I also fully believe that NIL collaboratives will be happy to pony up the money for the lawyers. Many of these collaboratives do love having an influence on their programs of choice. Are there some problems at play? Absolutely... But oddly enough I think the biggest counter to all this isn't just trying to sweep away NIL, but it is what becomes of the court case between Wisconsin and Miami. That case concerns revenue sharing and contracts that bind players to universities. Those contracts that players enter into as revenue sharing should be the key to combating some of the transfer mania. If players break those agreements they should have to pay up on a major way, not unlike coaches who leave for another school. NIL needs oversight and limitations. Abolishing it entirely without something to replace it is going to be messy. Too many people and parties have NIL money mixed up and on the line.
  23. When football players have more college stops than Madonna has husbands, you may have an issue. The Material girl has nothing on these youngsters today. Imagine getting two million dollars to sit and get a free education. Now imagine thinking that's not enough .
  24. That just chaps away at many SEC fans. It's a signal that the B1G doesn't have to bow down to kiss the ring. Pettiti isn't feeling pressure to settle because he's afraid of the ACC or Big 12 getting mad at him. He isn't afraid of losing millions, he serves the interest of the B1G. If the conference members are telling him to not back off this line, he isn't going to back off the line.
  25. I'm not sure, but Pawl feeds into the delusion because it's his core fanbase. He knows television isn't about reporting facts. It's about views. Love him or hate him, people have a feeling about him. Jo Bob and Delilah down at the Piggly Wiggly just buy into whatever they hear. I'm pretty sure they still think professional wrestling is a real sport. RIP to Hulk Hogan btw.

  27. Thanks for the post, Charles. It's simple: the ACC and the SEC play nine conference games, and the football committee is structured like the basketball committee, using publicly disclosed metrics and adhering to the metrics for selection and seeding, and the B1G will back a 5-11 format. An inconvenient fact for the folks backing the populist 5-11 format and calling the B1G greedy for backing a format with automatic qualifiers is that B12 commissioner, Brett Yormark, has also conditioned the B12's approval of the 5-11 format on all Power 4 conferences playing nine conference games. As noted by Charles, like every other conference commissioner Tony Petitti is looking out first and foremost for his conference. Greg Sankey is not backing the 5-11 format for the good of the game. Wanting to have the same folks competing for the same prize playing the same number of conference games is far from 'radical.' This is the norm across every sport with postseason competition for championships. Having a conference schedule that gives half of the conference teams one fewer loss is not equitable, especially in a sport that subjectively decides the teams that will compete in the postseason. Meanwhile, Petitti holds the financial high ground, and Sankey and others' breast-beating will not change the B1G's bottom-line lead.
