USC Demands Major Date Change to Keep Notre Dame Rivalry Alive
JabbaNoBargain replied to Annie's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Sort of? Two strongest conferences get the most teams in. Seems to generally be assumed 10-2 in the SEC/B1G is better than 10-2 in the ACC/B12, but the sample size isn’t large. Would ND ever qualify at 9-3? - Today

Does strength of schedule even matter anymore, or just the number of wins? -
The Capital One standings are only about how a team finishes in the sport. It has zero to do with conference finishes. Those standings do reflect teams with many sports, but you do have to finish in the top 10 to get any points. Just because a school has 100 sports, it doesn't just give the school points in the standings. The Ducks are one of the best Universities for bang for the buck. Yes, the spring sports will change those standings and likely improve the Ducks rankings.

An Sends Oregon To NCAA Semifinals CARLSBAD, Calif. – Oregon advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Women's Golf Championships for the second year in a row Tuesday as freshman Tong An won on a second playoff hole to secure a 3-2 victory over Texas and keep the Ducks' national-title hopes alive at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa. No. 2 seed Oregon will face No. 3 seed Northwestern in the semifinals beginning at 2:05 p.m., with the winner advancing to Wednesday's national championship match. Golf Channel will have live coverage of the semifinals beginning at 3 p.m. After sophomores Kiara Romero and Ting-Hsuan Huang won their matches to put two points on the board for the Ducks, the Longhorns earned two points of their own to bring the match down to An and Texas' Lauren Kim. An was 4 up through 10 holes before Kim won four of the next five to pull the match even. The match remained tied going to the 18th and An stuck her approach shot to set up a birdie putt to win the match, but rolled it just left of the cup to send the match back to the par-3 16th for a playoff hole. An and Kim both hit the green on 16 and An had another putt for the win, but again just missed. The pair went to the 17th for a second playoff hole, and both players found the fairway off the tee. Kim's approach was just off the back of the green while An landed hers in the middle before lagging her birdie putt up to just a few feet. Kim's putt from the fringe raced past the hole, and she missed the comebacker to give An a third shot at winning the match for the Ducks. She buried the putt in the middle of the cup as her teammates erupted in excitement. The Ducks were moving on. Romero was the first point on the board for Oregon, recovering from a slow start after being 2 down through three holes to win, 3&1 over Bohyun Park. The Big Ten Golfer of the Year battled back to 1 down through eight holes before winning the next four to take a commanding 3 up lead, and she was 2 up through 16 before winning the 17th to secure the point. Huang was 1 down through eight holes before draining a long birdie putt on No. 9 to pull all square. The sophomore caught fire from there, making another long putt on No. 10 to fuel a run of five straight holes won to take a 4 up lead. Texas' Angela Heo won at No. 14 to get a hole back, but Huang matched her shot-for-shot over the next three holes to win, 3&2, and set the stage for An's dramatics. NCAA Quarterfinal – No. 2 Oregon def. No. 7 Texas, 3-2 Kiara Romero (Oregon) def. Bohyun Park (Texas), 3&1 Tong An (Oregon) def. Lauren Kim (Texas), 1 up (20 holes) Cindy Hsu (Texas) def. USC Demands Major Date Change to Keep Notre Dame Rivalry Alive
30Duck replied to Annie's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
Overall, I agree with your idea, it's the "ND is essentially Forced" to win part that rankles me. It should be a given that teams win the majority of their marquee games to qualify for the playoffs. ND should be treated like every other independent. Call their bluff. -
USC Demands Major Date Change to Keep Notre Dame Rivalry Alive
Mike West replied to Annie's topic in Our Beloved Ducks
I’m opening up to the idea of ND staying independent as long as they play Miami, FSU and Clemson every year. Add USC to the mix and ND is essentially forced to win the majority of their marque games to qualify for the playoffs. Not to mention, it essentially bolsters the ACC significantly. If ND decided to bolster the Big12 in a similar fashion… Anything to maintain some semblance of what College Football was before USC and UCLA recognized the PAC12 was a dead man walking. I would rather see the ACC and Big12 survive than a super conference emerge. I’m not sure how other fans feel, but NFL lite is as anathema to me as being told I have to surrender my citizenship as an American. So ND can actually be the patch the fills the hole in what used to be the best sport on the planet. Not likely to happen, but a mummy like me can still dream. -

Regarding the Stanford logo, you can keep the ‘S’, but make the other part a stump. -
And there you have it. ANOTHER perspective that makes this topic so interesting. Thanks And yet another that adds even another dimension to the discussion. GatOrlando, your take is exactly why coaches must always stay on in their game, and improve. It’s obviously been time for Franklin to shake some attitudes down by winning a huge game in the regular season. He has the most talented team returning, so he gets no participation kudos. He has to demonstrate he can shake the monkey off his back, and win the conference. Now Day has to show he isn’t the luckiest coach to inherit talent. And our main man DL must demonstrate he can develop young talent into the cream of the crop-and take a title of his own. All within the backdrop of the SEC falling back to earth so to speak. I’ll always despise the NIL and Portal era, but it shook loose the SEC’s ability to stack talent permanently. Now coaches have to earn their reputation as coaches instead of their ability to simply stack talent. What a time to be alive.
