  2. Romero's Historic Round Powers Ducks Into 36-Hole Lead GOLD CANYON, Ariz. - Sophomore Kiara Romero fired the lowest round in Oregon women's golf history on Tuesday in the second round of the NCAA Gold Canyon Regional, carding a 10-under 62 to surge into the individual lead and move the No. 5 Ducks into the team lead after 36 holes at Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club. Oregon will enter Wednesday's final round at 5-under par for the tournament, four strokes ahead of second-place Oklahoma State (-1). The Ducks are 23 strokes up on No. 17 Auburn for fifth place and 25 shots clear of sixth-place Cal State Fullerton, with the top five teams after Wednesday advancing to the 2025 NCAA Championships (May 16-21) in Carlsbad, Calif. Romero made an incredible 11 birdies against just one bogey en route to a 10-under 62, besting the previous program record of 9-under 63 set by Cathleen Santoso in 2013-14. She also set a new course record at Superstition Mountain, breaking the previous record of 63. The 2025 Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Year, Romero will enter the final round with a four-stroke lead over Arizona State's Patience Rhodes (-8) in the individual race. "Just an unbelievable day today for Kiara," head coach Derek Radley. "To shoot the lowest round in program history and a course record in an NCAA Regional is truly amazing. That was one of the single greatest individual rounds I've ever seen, and we needed it. She really carried us today and put us in great position going into the final round." The Ducks are looking to advance to the NCAA Championships for the 14th time in program history and fourth time in the last five years. A win in Gold Canyon would be the second NCAA Regional victory in program history, joining the 2021-22 team that won the Pac-12 Championship and the NCAA Albuquerque Regional before going on to finish as the national runners-up. "It's important that we stay aggressive and don't get complacent," Radley said. "We need to keep our foot on the gas and go out and finish this thing strong tomorrow. I'm excited to see what the final round has in store for the Ducks." How it Happened: The Ducks opened the second round on the back nine and Romero got off to a sizzling start with three consecutive birdies. After a par at No. 13, she ripped off three more birdies in a row to get to 6 under through just seven holes. Romero would make par on No. 17 and No. 18 to make the turn at 6 under, quickly seizing the individual lead after starting the day one stroke back of the leaders. A birdie at No. 2 got Romero to 7 under, and she quickly bounced back from her lone bogey of the day at No. 3 with back-to-back birdies at holes 4 and 5. Romero added another birdie at No. 7 to get to 9 under, putting her in position to tie the program record, before sticking her approach shot tight on No. 9 and tapping in for birdie to set new UO and course records. Romero's 11 birdies in Tuesday's round alone are more than any other player in the field has made through 36 holes this week, and her 15 total birdies for the tournament are six more than any other player. Romero has also been the top player in the field in par-3 (-3) and par-4 (-6) scoring. Freshman Tong An shot par-or-better for the third straight round, making three birdies and three bogeys for an even-par 72. She gives the Ducks two players in the top 10 in a tie for eighth at 1 under after carding a 1-under 71 on Monday. Freshman Suvichaya Vinijchaitham came in with a 1-over 73 and sophomore Ting-Hsuan Huang rounded out the counting scores with a 3-over 75. Team Leaderboard (top five advance to NCAA Championships): 1. #5 Oregon — 289-282 — 571 (-5) 2. Romero leads the Ducks this season with 22 par-or-better rounds and 14 sub-70 performances ... Romero's 15 birdies through two rounds gives her 117 on the season, just one shy of the UO single-season record of 118 she set as a freshman in 2023-24. Up Next: The third and final round of the NCAA Gold Canyon Regional will begin at 8:00 a.m. PT on Wednesday, with the top five teams at the end of the round punching tickets to the NCAA Championships.
  3. Oregon Ducks Leading For 2027 Four-Star Safety Recruit Isala Aisa Wily-Ava? Despite recent recruiting struggles, the Oregon Ducks are still active in their pursuit for elite safety Isala Aisa Wily-Ava in the 2027 recruiting cycle. The four-star safety was recently offered by the Ducks and coach Dan Lanning. Now, he reportedly has them at the top of his list. 6. Here is a link to a blurb agout Devon Pryor's workout with the Blazers. Pryor is quoted as follows: “I’m in no rush, but for me, it’s just the feedback, as much feedback as I can get,” Pryor said. “Because I know there’s still plenty of ways for me to grow, and so I’m just open to everybody’s opinions and what they say I can do better. Keep open ears and a closed mouth.” Prospects Speak With Media After Blazers Pre-Draft Workout WWW.BLAZERSEDGE.COM The Blazers hosted their first pre-draft workout of the year Tuesday. 8. Good take. Great in fact. My only difference is I have Oregon at 6, with everyone behind them moving up a slot. Despite all that talent, two things come to mind. First, we are not going to see Bo Nix or Dillon Gabriel stats or execution level this year. Second, the defense must prove they can keep elite offenses under 30 ppg. I can’t justify a number three rating looking at replays of the last two years against elite offenses. Moore has to play like Novo does just to have a chance to look like 23’ or 24’. If he does, he still will have to drop 35-45 to beat elite teams until proven otherwise. Penn State, and Notre Dame will definitely play elite defense, and Georgia should. OBD can do it, but the proof is in the pudding. Once again, In Dan I Trust. Obviously I have a lot of faith, but I’m not 18 anymore. As far as Penn State. I believe you’re correct. But only because they don’t have elite WRs. If they did, they’d take the title in my opinion.
  9. Great article Jon (as usual)! I wouldn’t have guessed the SEspnC would take on more challenging competition. Could it be they’re looking to expand their TV ratings beyond those dominant numbers in conference games? And the playoffs. What do you think of keeping the format at 12? Especially with the opaque grading system the committee uses? Personally, I believe the P2 will always get 7, if not 8 in the current format if it’s expanded. Since controversy actually drives ratings, is it possible the P2 keeps the status quo and tweaks the regular season more? If we see a Super League, who gets invited? How many teams would participate? Would ratings collapse for the sport overall? The SEC completely drives ratings, with only Michigan and Ohio State pulling comparable numbers. Much to mull over for Sankey and Pettitti. Plenty for us to speculate about.
  10. I know preseason rankings are a crapshoot and right now there isn't a consensus top team unlike the past few years. There isn't an Alabama, Georgia, Clemson or Ohio State that is returning most of their roster from a championship squad. How many of us would've predicted Oregon would hang onto the number one ranking most of last year and be the only undefeated team heading into the playoff? They had to go to Wisconsin and Michigan, they also hosted Ohio State. This was their welcome to the B1G. So since we are are still a little over three months to go before the season starts and it's kind of the dead season for sports unless you're a baseball fan(I'm not). I would like to see what most would predict are going to be the top 10 teams exiting spring practice. We can always laugh about these after the season starts. Here's mine. 1.) Ohio State 2.) Texas 3.) Oregon 4.) Penn State 5.) Georgia 6.) Notre Dame 7.) Clemson 8.) Alabama 9.) South Carolina 10.) LSU I know Oregon, Texas, Ohio State, Georgia, Alabama and Notre Dame are all breaking in new QBs and a good amount of their rosters. But I believe in the abilities of those head coaches and the systems they run. Ohio State is coming off a title run and despite losing 14 guys to the draft, I gotta give them the nod. Ryan Day has never lost more than two games as a head coach. As far as Clemson, LSU and South Carolina. I believe in their returning QBs to carry them despite what most see as questions scattered about the rest of their rosters. I do believe you can carry momentum from one season to the next. Last, I can't imagine James Franklin winning a title even with all their returning talent, including Allar. I see them as a playoff team. But I just don't have any faith in their ability to win three or four straight times against elite competition. They got an absolute gift of a road to the championship game last year and they still blew it. That won't happen again. I believe the selection committee will do a better job balancing out the bracket.
  11. Beware The Ripples! Examining the QB ripple effect of Jared Curtis' Georgia commitment SPORTS.YAHOO.COM Oregon could focus all of its attention on five-star Ryder Lyons after losing out on Jared Curtis.
  12. Akili Smith Jr. Reminds me of a young Jaden Daniels. We're likely set for the next 3 years at QB with who we have on our roster right now, let alone transfer portal options that will exist.
  13. Oregon Recruiting Hour: When Will the Ducks' Skid End? There are always twists and turns, ebbs and flows and highs and lows in recruiting. Right now Oregon is definitely in a low, with no new commitments since February and three priority targets pledging to other schools in recent days. 5-star quarterback Jared Curtis committed to Georgia, 4-star wide receiver Kayden Dixon-Wyatt committed to Ohio State and Derek Colman-Brusa committed to Washington. So what’s going on with the Ducks on the recruiting trail? When might this dry spell end?
  14. I’m missing something I think. Outside of Stanford I can’t think of a a franchise QB coming out of Georgia. Bobo was a good college QB ( I think ), as was Bennet ( I guess ). Hines Ward turned into a feared wide receiver for Pittsburgh but only took a few snaps at QB. Oregon however has a QB list far outweighing the Bulldogs which couldn’t hang onto to Beck. Curtis should start right away and will be successful because of the cast of studs around him. If he goes to the Ducks I see him sitting for maybe 3 years. Judging from the spring game we are in excellent shape at qb. Worry Not my friends.

  17. See you in December, see you when it's Signing Day. Before Signing Day, a 'Commitment' is Nihil, Latin for 'Nothing.' And unless the Portal is reined in, many of the players you don't sign today will be there on the rebound. This kid could have stayed with his original 'commitment' and saved the Dawgs and the Ducks time and money. Like Ty Thompson, he plays in a lower-level high school football conference. Leading recruiting rankings today is as meaningless as a lead at halftime.
  18. Notre Dame is a conference unto itself? When it comes to the CFB PO, this is true. The Notre Dame Conference: Unique agreement with Clemson only strengthens Irish's bid to remain independent - CBSSports.com WWW.CBSSPORTS.COM More special treatment for Notre Dame shows why there's no reason for the Fighting Irish to join a conference
  19. More on the Tigers vs. the Domers. Clemson, Notre Dame to announce 12-year scheduling agreement - ESPN WWW.ESPN.COM Clemson and Notre Dame are set to announce a 12-year scheduling agreement that will pit the two college football powers against each other annually through 2038.
  20. The Eyes On the Prize revenue split in the ACC is one reason Clemson and Notre Dame recently agreed to play every year through 2038. This will also help Notre Dame with its standalone broadcast deal with NBC. I think a Super Conference is coming before 2038. I see Notre Dame, Clemson, FSU, and UNC making the Super Conference cut. Maybe UVA? Miami is a smaller private school without an on-campus stadium, and the Super Conference does not need three teams in Florida. When it comes to the CFB PO, there simply is no salient argument that supports the Little Guy, including Smaller Guys teams from the ACC and the B12, having the same access to the PO as the Power 2. No 'mid-major' has won or will win a CFB PO. There was a chance with a one-game BCS, but not now with having to win three or four games vs. top competition.
  21. Parents and girlfriends still undefeated in recruiting.
  22. Anyone else beyond tired of recruits playing into the click bait tease game that seems to be the only reason for most (OBD not included) sports sites to exist so they can offer nothing but last weeks news? I’ve nothing but admiration for those athletes who announce their schools of interest and then shut up.

Week 5 at Penn State will be B1G in so many ways.
  24. Absolutely! I hated it back when Clemson was getting to the Championship. Yes, they won. But they got there after playing an ACC schedule! It's not that much tougher in the ACC now.
  25. The introduction of NIL to college football has put some big-time money into the pockets of players. Especially when playing for a program like Oregon, which recruits at as high of a level as anybody out there in the country. This has caused Dan Lanning to add a few financial lessons to his program.
