  2. My ten losses: 10. OHIO STATE (2024 Rose Bowl): 21-41: 34-0 to start then 34-8 at half. Nearly doubled up on offense, 500 yards to 276. 9. WASHINGTON II (2023): 31-34: #3 UW versus #5 UO. Since the first game, Oregon has looked improved and the UW has had some clunkers. Oregon was as much as a 9.5 point favorite. After a slow start, Oregon actually takes a 24-20 lead late in the 3rd. The UW scores two straight TDs in the 4th, Oregon gets a late 63 yard TD from Holden but can't get the onsides kick. 8. WSU (2003): 16-55: "Rich Cool, 4-0" the previous week, beating #3 Michigan 31-27. The following week, defending Pac-10 and #21 ranked WSU came to Autzen and were up 38-2 at half. After having no interceptions on the season, Clemens throws 4 picks and Fife throws 3 and Oregon fumbles twice for 9 turnovers. Oregon adds 12 penalties. WSU only needs 399 yards of offense to put up 55. 7. ARIZONA (2007): 24-34: It started well (39 yard TD run from Dixon). Dixon's knee buckles as does Oregon's possible trip to the National Championship game. UA's Antoine Cason has a punt return for a TD and an interception return for a TD. Oregon goes on to lose 0-16 the next week to UCLA, putting up a total of 148 yards of offense and 4 TOs. 6. CALIFORNIA (2007): 24-31: 4-0 #6 Cal versus 4-0 #11 Oregon. Gameday in Eugene. Expected fireworks don't show up early and UO leads 10-3 at half. Cal behind Longshore and DeSean Jackson (11 catches for 161 and 2 TDs) takes a late 31-24 lead. Oregon roars down the field in 9 plays in 1:17 to the Cal 5. Cam Colvin catches a pass with 0:22 seconds left and reaches for the endzone and the ball comes out, fumbled through the endzone and the game ends. Cal is later headed to the #1 spot in the country when it has to insert back-up QB Kevin Riley against OSU, while late and in position to score, Riley scrambles too long and goes down and Cal, with no timeouts, can't get its FG team to tie. 5. USC (2011): 35-38: #2 Oklahoma State had lost earlier in the day and #4 Oregon was in position to move to #3 if it beat #18 USC at Autzen. LeBron was throwing passes to Carmelo on the sidelines in the pregame. Oregon falls behind 21-7 at half on a chilly evening. Oregon gets a late score from David Paulson and a 2 point conversion to Tuinei. USC drives down the field running out the clock and gets to the Oregon 11 with 2:31 left. Marc Tyler fumbles and Oregon recovers and drives 66 yards to about the USC 20. With about 0:20 left Oregon appears to settle for setting up a 37 yard FG to tie. Maldonado misses. 4. STANFORD (2001): 42-49: Oregon's only loss in its #2 ranked finish of the 2001 season. Stanford trails 42-28 into the 4th and then outscores Oregon 21-0 by converting one of two blocked punts, an interception, and an onside kick. The interception comes on 3rd and 2 from Oregon's own 30 with 4:20 on the clock with Oregon holding on 42-41. Oregon mounts a late drive to the Stanford 37 but 4 straight incompletions end the game. 3. OREGON STATE (2000): 13-23: #5 UO versus #8 OSU. Oregon wins and it returns to the Rose Bowl, a loss and it drops all the way to the Holiday Bowl. Harrington entered the game 13-1 as a starter but throws 5 interceptions (3 to Jake Cookus). Oregon ends up with 6 TOs and 12 penalties for 132 yards. Oregon outgains OSU 471 to 399 but OSU connects on a couple early scores and builds a 17-0 first half lead Oregon can't overcome. 2 UCLA (1998): 38-41 (OT): #2 UCLA (4-0) versus #11 Oregon (5-0). After Oregon's improbable Rose Bowl run in 1994, three seasons had passed and Oregon looked to be prepared to burst back upon the national scene. Akili Smith, Rueben Droughns, Tony Hartley, Damon Griffin, Jed Weaver lead a dangerous skill position group putting up 50.6 points per game and 540 yards. Droughns himself was averaging 165 yards rushing per game at 7.4 ypc. UCLA was on a 14 game winning streak and lead 24-7 at half. Oregon scored 24 straight to lead 31-24 into the 4th. UCLA went back ahead 38-31 but Oregon tied it 38-38 with a Griffin 2 yard TD pass with 0:22 seconds left. Oregon took consecutive sacks in OT for -12 yards then threw an incompletion then a desperation interception. UCLA won it with a FG. Game is partially remembered for Drougns battling for 172 yards on 25 carries; but, playing late into the game on a broken leg (he misses the rest of the season). He loses 3 fumbles, all which lead to UCLA TDs and Oregon ends up with 5 TOs. UCLA has a FG blocked and missed another from 21. At the end of the game UCLA head coach Bob Toledo comments, "Wow, that should be worth two wins." 1. STANFORD (2012): 14-17 (OT): probably Oregon's best Chip Kelly team, sitting at #2 at 10-0 with a probable National Championship date with ND waiting (tOSU was ineligible due to Tressel investigation). Ertz lands out of bounds in the back of the endzone with 1:35 remaining. The officiating booth decides to reofficiate the play rather than look for conclusive evidence to change the call. Stanford wins in OT. Oregon wins the Fiesta and finishes #2 AP. HM: TCU (Alamo Bowl 2015) 41-47 (3 OT), Washington (2016) 21-70, Cal (1983) 41-42, Stanford (2013) 20-26, ASU (2002) 42-45, UW I (2023) 33-36, Auburn (2010 NC) 19-22 Ten wins: 10 Michigan 2007 (39-7): 624 yards of offense and 36 unanswered points. 292 yards passing and 3 TDs from Dixon and 111 rushing from Stewart (Michigan, despite starting 0-2, still finishes 9-4 and ranked #18) 9 Stanford 2010 (52-31): #4 Oregon versus #9 Stanford. Oregon puts up 626 yards of offense behind 257 yards and 3 TDs from James. Stanford and Oregon both finish 12-1. Toughest test on the way to the 2010 NC game with Auburn 8 at Ohio State 2021 (35-28): #12 Oregon upsets #3 Ohio State at The Shoe as a 14.5 underdog. 20 for 161 and 2 TDs from CJ Verdell, tOSU's Stroud in his 2nd start 35-54 for 484 7 USC 2007 (24-17): #5 Oregon defeated #12 USC (and its 3rd ranked defense) and moved up to AP#4. A reported 120+ decibels at Autzen after the Harper interception with USC driving late 6 USC 2009 (47-20): #4 USC at #10 Oregon on Halloween night. Oregon puts up 47 points, 613 yards including 391 yards rushing. USC held to 327. The beginning of the end of the Pete Carroll era at USC? 5 Ohio State 2024 ( 32-31): #3 Oregon versus #2 Ohio State with tOSU a 3.5 point favorite at Autzen 4 Colorado 2001 Fiesta (38-16): Oregon finishes 11-1 and AP #2 after defeating AP #3 Colorado. 350 yards and 4 TDs from Harrington, 3 interceptions by Steve Smith. 500 to 328 yards in total offense, held CU to 49 yards rushing 3 Wisconsin 2011 Rose Bowl (45-38): Highest scoring Rose Bowl yet at the time, Oregon's first Rose Bowl win since 1917 2 Florida State 2014 Rose (59-20): 25-20 at half, Oregon outscores FSU 34-0 in the second half. 5 FSU TOs. 639 to 528 yards advantage 1 Washington 1994 (31-20): The Pick. 4. Tourney Bound! Ducks Earn NCAA Tournament Bid EUGENE, Ore. – For the second straight season and the seventh time in the last nine tournaments, the Oregon women’s basketball team is NCAA Tournament bound. Oregon earned its 19th NCAA Tournament bid in school history, and seventh in the last nine tournaments under head coach Kelly Graves, as it received a No. 8 seed in the Fort Worth 3 Region. The Ducks will meet ninth-seeded Virginia Tech on Friday, March 20 at Texas’ Moody Center in Austin, Texas, the NCAA Selection Committee announced on ESPN. “It never gets old hearing your name,” said Graves. “If you’ve never experienced it, it’s pretty special. It really is. They treat you how you should be treated as a collegiate student-athlete.” In last season’s NCAA Tournament, the 10th-seeded Ducks advanced to the second round after upsetting No. 7-seed Vanderbilt before falling to host and two-seed Duke. UO was one of just two double-digit seeds to make it out of the Round of 64 in last year’s postseason. “I’ve coached in a lot of these tournaments, it’s the matchup. It’s not the name or the seeding, or any of that,” Graves added. “Your stars have to perform, but I’ve been in enough of these to know that it’s that X-factor, you never know where you might get it from. But I like our chances.” “We’re super excited, just to hear our name, it’s a special moment,” said junior Sofia Bell. “So it was something we were looking forward to as a team and we’re excited.” “It’s great to be able to be here, be able to play in March Madness,” said senior Mia Jacobs, who will be making her first NCAA Tournament appearance. “It’s something that a lot of people talk about, but not a lot of people get to experience. So, I am excited that I get to be one of those people.” Oregon finished the regular season 22-12 and 8-10 in Big Ten play, reaching the quarterfinals at last week’s Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament in Indianapolis. The Ducks boast a NCAA Evaluation Tool (NET) rating of 24 while picking up six total Quad 1 and 2 victories. Playing in the nation’s second-toughest conference according to NET rankings, UO faced 10 ranked opponents during the regular season and earned victories over then-No. 21 USC and two wins over a ranked Maryland team (Nos. 16 and 14). The Ducks played 11 different teams that are in this year’s field of 68 – picking up five wins against those squads. In 12 seasons at Oregon, Graves has guided the Ducks to seven NCAA Tournament appearances, including three Sweet Sixteen berths, two Elite Eights and one Final Four. The Ducks are 13-6 in the NCAA Tournament under Graves. This marks the first time Oregon has received an eight seed in the NCAA Tournament, while the Ducks and Hokies have met just once previously. UO defeated Virginia Tech 73-53 back on Nov. 27, 1999, in Eugene. Graves has guided the Ducks to at least one NCAA Tournament win in five of his previous six appearances in his UO tenure. Graves has led Oregon to 13 of its 18 all-time NCAA Tournament victories and will make his 15th career appearance in the postseason. OREGON IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT Seventh tournament bid in last nine tournaments Second consecutive tournament bid (reached second round last season) 19th all-time NCAA Tournament appearance Seventh NCAA Tournament bid under Graves Won at least one game in six of the last seven tournament appearances Reached one Final Four, three Elite Eights and four Sweet Sixteens under Graves Ducks are 13-6 in the NCAA Tournament in Graves’ tenure First time being a No. 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament 18-18 all-time record in the NCAA Tournament Graves earns his 15th career NCAA Tournament bid
  5. So Waz brought it all down to earth a bit on Laya, as he hits .429 against right handed pitching but only .235 against lefties . It just shows us how special he will be when he can hit lefty piching. My guess is that going forward opposing coaches will bring in a southpaw when the game is on the line and Laya is coming up. That will change.

  10. OREGON ATHLETIC COMMUNICATIONS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | SUNDAY, MARCH 15, 2026 BASEBALL | @OregonBaseball Laya Delivers Walk-off to Clinch Series Sweep EUGENE, Ore. — Freshman Angel Laya delivered a one-out walk-off single to score Maddox Molony in the bottom of the ninth inning to complete a come-from-behind 7-6 win over Indiana in Big Ten Conference action on Sunday at PK Park. The win completed a series sweep for the Ducks. The Ducks trailed 6-1 before rallying for six runs over the final four innings. Molony started the ninth inning rally with a leadoff base on balls before Smith doubled inside the third-base bag to put runners at second and third. Indiana (7-12, 1-5 Big Ten) elected to pitch to Laya with first base open and the Ducks’ seven-hole hitter made the Hoosiers pay lacing a hard-hit ball between first and second scoring Molony with the winning run. How It Happened: Indiana touched up Oregon fill-in starter Josh Hollis for four runs in 1.1 innings to start the game. Tanner Bradley relieved Hollis with the bases loaded and one out while trailing 3-0. Bradley only allowed one of the inherited runners to score before getting out of the jam. The Ducks (17-3, 5-1 Big Ten) nearly got all four back in the bottom of the second. The Ducks loaded the bases with no outs but a near grand slam turned into a single scoring one run with a second runner thrown out at the plate. Burke-Lee Mabeus lined a shot off the top of the wall that immediately ricocheted to the right fielder who hit the first baseman for a relay throw that got Smith out trying to score from second. Indiana added two more runs in the third thanks to a pair of Oregon throwing errors on the same play. Bradley fielded a sacrifice bunt attempt and threw wild to first allowing the first run to score. Ryan Cooney tracked down the ball and then also threw wildly to first trying to get the batter who rounded the bag widely allowing the second run to score. Angel Laya after the celebration... After stranding a pair of runners in the third and fifth innings, Oregon finally got much-needed hits with runners in scoring position in the bottom of the sixth. Cooney lined a bases-clearing double into the right-field gap to score three and cut the lead to two. One out later, Dominic Hellman doubled to center field to score Cooney and make it a one-run game. Oregon tied it with a run in the bottom of the eighth. Josh Schleichardt started the rally with a five-pitch walk before being replaced by pinch runner Jack Brooks. Cooney moved Brooks to second with a base hit through the left side. Hellman followed with a clutch two-out chopper through the middle scoring Brooks from second. Box Score Notes: Cal Scolari, Oregon’s normal Sunday starter on the mound, missed the game with the flu … Smith extended his reached base streak to 20 games this season and 22 games dating back to 2025 … Oregon’s last walk-off to win a game came on March 21, 2025, when Parker Stinson delivered a game-winning sacrifice fly. On Deck: The Ducks host Northwestern on Friday to open a three-game series. First pitch is at 4:05 p.m. on B1G+. Quotes: Head Coach Mark Wasikowski On Angel Layas performance as a freshman… “He doesn’t act like a freshman. He’s a goliath, acted like an old guy. He looks like a pro, and it looks like if he continues his development he will be a really good pro. It’s a little early still on all that but he’s played very well and he went for it at the end. Lots of times a young guy might doubt himself or back down, he wasn’t scared at all.” On Drew Smith leading the team in RBI and home runs… “He’s a complete player. The bullpen was obviously a real story for us; the other real story was Drew Smith. You know there were offensive heroes. Dominic Hellman overcoming stuff to be able to have two really good at-bats, that’s mental toughness. He wasn’t having a great stretch, and yet when we needed him, he came through twice in the end. That’s leadership. Ryan Cooney, clutch, basis loaded, doubling the gap, that’s leadership. His best three at-bats were the last three at-bats. Drew Smith though, I think it was the third inning where he struck out in a big at-bat, and I think he got run up on a 3-2 count. The only thing that happened next was the next eight hitters came up to the plate for them, five of them shot rockets or balls right to Drews direction. He made every one of those plays, turned a double play, put-out on a double play, which was a rocket ship. Then, he made all the other challenging plays that were hit at him after his most negative part of the game. That’s mental toughness and leadership. That’s something I’m really lucky to be a part of, and I credit Drew Smith and the assistant coaches for helping him get to that mental state, that was special. That was one of the more mentally tough and special performances I’ve ever seen in my coaching career.” Toby Twists and overall team performance… “I thought Toby was really good. I thought Tanner (Bradley) limited the damage when he got in there, and he did a nice job. I thought the entire bullpen did a nice job. Tanner comes in and limits the damage and he extends it a bit, holds it. That was the mound visit that we took, and I don’t take very many mound visits, but when we’re stinking it up at home and we are trying to sweep somebody, and we didn’t get a quality start. We go out there and we are throwing the ball around the yard, it looks like a really bad, Bad News Bears game. The next thing you know, we had to reign guys in and go, hey let’s get over ourselves. We can’t do anything about how bad we’ve been so far, but if we shut them down from here on out, I think we are going to win this game. And sure enough, the guys believed it and as we went, you saw the productive at-bats and solid defensive plays. Without those defensive plays it could’ve gotten really loose. I’ve been a part of a lot of games where that thing gets really away from us because everybody’s quit already. That didn’t happen for us, and I was really happy with the guys to be able to do that.” Ryan Cooney drove in three runs! Dominic Hellman On having mature at-bats... “It was sweet. It was people setting the table before me that helped turn the lineup around. We had dudes all throughout the lineup that we can plug and play anywhere. That’s the neat thing about our team. There’s also a maturity part. Being in a regional and a super-regional, we’ve been there done that. I felt the place rocking today like it was a typical home regional which was sweet.” On Coach Wasikowski’s mid-game talk with the team... “He’s a temperature gauge for sure. He helps us calm down, and he’s a huge part of our success on and off the field whether that is baseball related or things off the field related. He a huge temp gauge for us in the sense that ‘Hey you guys got this and you guys are a good team. What happened, just flip it and get it done’.” On his double with two outs and two strikes... “The whole weekend they were spinning me and bluffing with heaters. I was reflecting and they weren’t landing their heaters that much, so I thought they were going to go to their go-to and try to get me out. As long as I saw it up, it was fine. I was nice and relaxed and just relaxed to it.” On a tide-changing moment in the game... “After Ryan Cooney’s double, I was like ‘we got this’. That moment solidified it. Even before we were getting momentum on our side by our relief pitchers coming in. They were being dominant and putting up zeros for us and holding them to that six for us to keep scoring.” Angel Laya On his walk-off win... “It means a lot. I’ve been preparing for that moment my whole life and I’m glad I was able to do it and do it for the team.” On his confidence at-bats... “I know I have good bat-to-ball skills. I was swinging at almost every pitch, and I got a good pitch today.” On close-game experiences... “It builds confidence. When you’re down six-to-one it’s all about not giving up and keeping our foot on the gas to keep moving.” Toby Twist On his thoughts of his performance... “I felt good from the start. I was trying to stay warmed up, ready to go, and trying to put my team in the best situation to win that game and I thought we did a good job.” On Drew Smith’s defensive performance... “He’s great. You don’t have to worry about anything because you have those guys behind you.” On Cal Scolari’s scratch and a good performance from the bullpen... “I think the bullpen was ready for today. Once we got the talk that Cal wasn’t going to start we got prepared for whatever was thrown at us.”
  11. Well, you read about the call I made...that was right. We are all right about 50% of the time, but I make sure to crow loudly when I am!

  14. "Called" victories in sports, where a player or team overtly predicts, guarantees, or acts with supreme confidence to win a seemingly unlikely game, are some of the most iconic moments in athletic history. Here are some of the greatest "called" victories in sports: 1. Joe Namath: Super Bowl III (1969) The Call: Days before Super Bowl III, New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath appeared at a dinner and told fans, "We’re going to win the game. I guarantee it". 2. Babe Ruth: "Called Shot" (1932) The Call: In Game 3 of the 1932 World Series at Wrigley Field, with the Yankees-Cubs series intense, Babe Ruth was heckled by the Cubs dugout. After taking a strike, Ruth famously pointed toward center field—a gesture widely interpreted as calling his home run. 3. Conor McGregor: UFC 194 (2015) The Call: Leading up to his fight against the dominant, undefeated (for 10 years) Jose Aldo, McGregor predicted he would knock Aldo out in the first round. 4. Steve Kerr/Stephen Curry: "Called Game" (2019) The Call: In Game 5 of the 2019 Western Conference Semifinals, with the Blazers-Thunder series tied, Damian Lillard hit a 37-foot three-pointer at the buzzer to eliminate OKC, immediately pointing to his wrist, saying "Game". 5. Charles Fisher: Called Comeback (2026) The Call: Down 6-1 , after blowing two defensive plays at first base and stranding two men on base in their half of the inning, things looked a bit dire for OBD. Not to worry, as Mr. Fishduck confidently declared, "Boy, are we in for a great comeback!" And so it was. Great call Charles!
  15. Amazing comeback. When was the last time Oregon had a freshman steely-eyed clutch player like Laya?
  16. My favorite is the 2015 Rose Bowl win over Florida State. The Ducks clobbered them. And that Winston fumble along with what resulted was the icing on the cake.
  17. Did you see that above in post number five written about an hour ago?
  18. Ducks win 7-6! Devin Bell gave up a walk, but disposed of the rest as a great closer does! Maddox Molony walked, and Drew Smith showed bunt, but them pulled it back...a slash! He zings it down third base to get a hit and move Molony to third base. Then Angel Laya gets it drive through the right infield for the WALK-OFF win! Oregon never led the entire game until that hit! (Game summary always comes out about two hours after the game at the end of this thread)
  19. 6-6 after eight innings, as Michael Meckna came in and gave up a double, but dispensed with the rest. He has become a reliable option out of the 'Pen this year thus far. Josh Schleichardt walked, and Jack Brooks came in the pinch run. Ryan Cooney hits to short-LF, to get two on. Dominic Hellman nails one up the middle as Brooks jets for home to tie it up going into the ninth inning. Let's Go Ducks!
  20. 6-5 Hoosiers after seven innings. Toby Twist put them down 1-2-3...fantastic. Another new big-guy, Navivou Lauaki is in at first base for Gabe Miranda.
  21. 6-5 Hoosiers after six innings. Toby Twist was wonderful putting them away for Oregon. Boy the Ducks got the bats going! Drew Smith walked, and Angel Laya got a hit to mid-lin RF. Then Josh Schleichardt gets a hit through the gap on left to load the bases! Ryan Cooney nails the CF/RF gap that went to the wall and scored three! Dominic Hellman blasts one to the wall that scores Cooney. What a difference when the Indiana reliever is in there, not the starter...whew!
  22. 6-1 Hoosiers after four innings. Tanner Bradley got one, and then Toby Twist took over dispensed the rest. Sure wish one of them would have started the game! The opposing pitcher is in the zone, and Oregon stranded two...again.
  23. 6-1 Hoosiers after three innings as Our Beloved Ducks are just having a bad day with errors. Routine throws to first base were blown--not Bradley's fault and pretty surprising to see. Oregon strands two on base... (What a terrible game to have on TV!) Boy, are we in for a great comeback!
  24. 4-1 Hoosiers after two innings as Hollis gave up more hits, loaded the bases, and then Tanner Bradley came in to finish the inning. Maddox Molony hits a deep ball that dies in LF for a double, and then we get a walk and a plinked batter to load the bases with no outs. But we blow the opportunity as Drew Smith was tagged out at home.
