Btw…after hearing Auburn fans greet each other with War Eagle for two days before that game, I did want to see that damn eagle fly out of that stadium to never be seen again. When all is said, and done, I have always thought about the difference between need, and want. I will always want to see OBD win a Championship, but I certainly don’t need them to win one to be happy. At this stage, I feel like I have gotten my moneys worth of memorable wins, and…ahem, losses.

In the NFL, whether a particular team's record is good or not, in every game you'll be playing against the best of the best. There are no FCS or crummy conference teams on the schedule. Yet, even in the NFL, the schedule's degree of difficulty matters. The Patriots are in the Super Bowl in part because of this season's soft schedule. The luck of the draw scheduling wise in college mega-conferences makes a difference in the B1G, and a big difference in every P4 conference. If Florida had its 2026 schedule in 2024 and 2025, instead of the JMU Dukes, Billy Napier might still be coaching the Gators this season. College football schedule strength goes from the absurd, Wisconsin's schedule in 2025, to the sublime of Wisconsin's schedule in 2026.
