Diamond Ducks vs. Penguins on B1G+ Right NOW
1-0 Ducks after four innings. Will Sanford has given up a hit in each of the last two innings, but comes right back and shuts them down. We are seeing more of his drop/curve for strikes, and his mental strength is much higher than last year in his freshman campaign. Jax Gimenez walked, and then Dominic Hellman nails a pitch and hits the wall about halfway up for a double and moves Gimenez to third. Drew Smith was at bat and moved to bunt...and like a good Oregon baseball player...knew when to DUCK. That brought the ball high and quick to the catcher who had it bounce off his mitt, and to the backstop. That scores Gimenez, and that is the total scoring for both teams after four innings!

College Football Offseason Buzz: Indiana Gives Curt Cignetti Another RaiseIt's got to be cool to get two raises in four months! The Indiana Hoosiers have raised their head coach's salary to $13.2 million through the 2033 season, per ESPN. This deal comes in the wake of Indiana winning its first National Championship in program history in January and already raising Cignetti's salary to $11.6 million in October. Moreover, this raise makes Cignetti the second-highest paid coach in college football. Since Cignetti took over in Bloomington for the 2024 season, the Hoosiers are a combined 27-2, highlighted by going 16-0 en route to winning the National Championship last season. https://www.foxsports.com/stories/college-football/college-football-offseason-buzz

0-0 after two innings. Sure enough...the Penguin pitcher is great and held the Ducks down...so far. Will Sanford has done equally as well, with three strikeouts and some heat at 95 mph. This game is a dilly!

Who Do YOU Believe the Oregon Ducks Are?
Hey Sharpshooter, I guess we'll have to wait and see. I think Lanning gets it. I sense he allows his coordinators autonomy. Sometimes, I feel he needs to take over a bit while things are out of sync. That's just my take. It was pretty clear the semi-final game was going to be an arms race. I wasn't so concerned about running the ball. I was more concerned with getting Indiana to cover deep passes. They saw early it wasn't going to be an issue. For whatever reason. I'm a firm believer you better start giving your QB time even if it means ONE guy runs a route. I really don't care. But again, this is a hack you're talking to. My main point is if they are going to speed up your clock, you better have a nuke that explodes in 2 seconds, or you better send your fuel jets to keep your bombers in the air longer. Either way, BOMBS BETTER START FALLING. It has become too difficult to gain 20 plus yards running on elite teams enough to win games. Not to mention averaging 5 yards a carry. Oregon has one of the best long range throwers in the game. Hardly anyone can throw the ball as far as Dante Moore. Why waste that?

Who Do YOU Believe the Oregon Ducks Are?
Happy, I hate to say it, buy I believe you are correct. I love Dan Lanning. He definitely has exceeded my expectations. I thought the team was very god, but I thought there were too many holes to cover. Lupoi really, really stepped up this year. Stein is his usually perceptive self. He sees the game very well. What I believe is happening is the staff doesn't quite know what to do once they are exposed (the natural weaknesses that is-for example, the Linebackers will not be able to cover fast WRs-Cignetti blasted that weakness). When Moore melted down initially, Lanning got his mental game back. Then Indiana parsed out what Stein wanted to do and started attacking it directly. Stein still hadn't figured out how Indiana was stunting, so he couldn't figure a solution to the pressure, and the gap weaknesses Indiana was exploiting. Indiana wasn't just being more physical, they attacked what they calculated Stein wanted to do in his game plan. Once they realized Stein wasn't going to be able to throw deep, they pounced. No back shoulder throws to compensate for lack of separation (obviously they don't practice it like Penix and Mendoza had), no conflict routes to shake the pesky corners. Stein attacked the teeth of Indiana's zone blitz, and overall zone coverage. It seemed like Stein lost confidence in Moore's loss of confidence. He didn't protect him well either. He just gave what he saw was the most simple solution to a massive problem. I think Stein is brilliant. I personally would challenge him to change on a dime by giving him very, very tough pills to swallow in practice. I personally wouldn't want my OC to get comfortable with anything. No rigid game plans. Not at all. Is that feasible when you have to teach players the element of the game? I don't know. I believe a coach can. But that is the hack in me talking. I should run this by coaches. I certainly would challenge the heck out of any philosophy they have, because frankly, Kurt Cignetti just exposed you don't need more than half your roster being 4 and five star players. You need to teach your kids the game. You need to keep them out of their weaknesses (like I said, Lupoi did that masterfully all season this year). Boy, I write too many soliloquies. Thanks for the comment

Heads Up Hosers - It's B1G! Women's USA Hockey Team vs Canada for the Olympic Gold Medal
A bit more on the game and the final score, starting with USA coach, John Wrobleski - JW played his college hockey in the Big Ten, skating for the Notre Dame Irish. In the Gold Medal game with the USA down 1-0, Wrobleski had the gumption to pull his goalie and send 6 attackers on the ice with more than two minutes left. The equivalent of a Hail Mary attempt in football before the final play of the game. USA team captain Hilary Knight, who played college hockey for Wisconsin and was in her fifth and final Olympics, scored the game-tying goal with a little over one minute remaining in regulation. With netting her 15th goal to tie the game, Hilary Knight finished her Olympic hockey career with the most Olympic goals scored for the USA. Laili Edwards, 14 years younger than Hilary, is also a Badger and the first Black woman to play on the Women's Olympic team. Growing up in Cleveland, Hilary was Laila's hero. Megan Keller, who grew up in Big Ten country in Detroit and played her college hockey at Boston College, scored the winner in OT. Hats off to Canada, defeated earlier in the qualifying rounds by the USA 5-0, for giving us a Gold Medal game that harkens back to Mike Eruzione and the 1980 Miracle on Ice game. https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/inside-john-wroblewskis-hockey-career-163546685.html Sunday, 8 AM Eastern, 5 AM Pacific, NBC, the USA men's hockey team plays Canada for the Gold Medal. Diamond Ducks vs. Penguins on B1G+ Right NOW
Today will be a tougher game, I believe because of the pitcher that Youngstown State is starting. Senior LHP Braden Gebhardt was the Horizon League Pitcher of the Week last week because of his incredible performance at Auburn. He went six innings, gave up only two hits, one unearned run, and eleven strikeouts! Whew! That is as good as performance against Auburn as our staff had against George Mason. I expect a low-scoring pitching duel between him and Will Sanford, and in the end--our batting is better, hence why I could see a 3-1 kind of game. But I will take any win! Will Sanford

Quack! Quack! Dayton Raiola Commits to Oregon, Reunited With Brother in Eugene
I'm expecting the Duck's overall "Blue Chip" ratio to fall from what I believe was an all-time 78% in 2025 to 71% to 72% in 2026. Sounds negative, but among the top 60 or so rated players out of the 85 counters (no longer needs to be 85 but most teams still seem to roughly be sticking to it), Oregon should be at a clear all-time talent high. Five stars: 10 Top 50: 19 Top 75: 23 Top 100: 27 Top 200: 41 If one were to throw together a best guess Duck starting 22 for 2026, and then compare it to the 2024 Ohio State/Oregon playoff game: Top 80 rated starting recruits: 2024 Ohio State: 56% 2024 Oregon: 18% 2026 Oregon (projected): 50% Top 200 rated starting recruits: 2024 Ohio State: 82% 2024 Oregon: 27% 2026 Oregon (projected): 68%

Is ‘Flexible Symmetry’ the Answer to Big-10 Scheduling?
I guess I was not focused on a Conference champsionship, I was mostly concerned about getting the 2 best teams into the playoffs for sure. With the large conferences I am not a big fan of conference champsionships, getting the best seeds to the playoffs is what I was focused on. I never liked when PSU, OSU & Michigan were in one division and the other division was a bunch of average teams.

Is ‘Flexible Symmetry’ the Answer to Big-10 Scheduling?
I need to better understand what you are saying, Duckman60 and Canvasback. Does your cross-division 1 plays two determine a Conference Champion? If yes, please explain who is the champion if both the #1 teams win.
-
Who Do YOU Believe the Oregon Ducks Are?
My answer is I'm not sure. I've said this before, but I'm not concerned about the losses to eventual championship teams. It's the WAY they lost that concerns me and I don't know what the fix would be.

Softball: Ducks Upset No. 11 Texas A&M
Challenging start to the season for Lombardi. On paper, her roster suggests superiority over last year’s, but clearly lacks the early focus that characterized 2025’s senior-led group’s motivation from being in her program for three years, and ready to break out. Day in, day out team consistency is not easy to achieve, and has to develop over time, if it does at all. But, that’s where I’m beginning to trust Melissa and her staff. They’ve shown a similarity to Dana Altman’s season long approach (this year being the exception) that has players team ready at the right time. This team has the determination. Game time experience together appears all that is lacking.

Not sure if this was mentioned, but we can't forget that in '14/15 and in '24/25, those were the first years expanding the CFP, from 2->4 and from 4->12, both expansion years opened the door to a lower ranked Ohio State team to make the field and both years Ohio State went on to win it all. A year earlier, Ohio State would not have made the field and who know what would have happened...

The only change I would make to the Cross division games in Canvasbacks scenario is instead of 1st place playing 1st place have 1 play 2 in the cross division game. This way if the 2 best teams happen to be in the same division they can proof it and go out of the league as the 1 & 2 seeds.
