Happy Thanksgiving to All
A Happy Thanksgiving to the OBD Family. As you gather with others tomorrow: Count your blessings and those of your families and friends. Practice forbearance and patience, even with that crazy uncle with the tin foil hat or the aunt that sneaks turkey and stuffing into her purse to take home to her twelve cats. Be kind to the relation that sits on the opposite end of the political spectrum from you (or is a UW fan), and won't shut the **** up about it. Smile, think lofty thoughts and help clear the table and rinse the dishes. Thanksgiving is a uniquely American holiday, rooted in our humble origins and the need for a common currency of individual rights and laws that protect the diversity of our populace. That currency remains a magnet that draws people to our shores. We are not perfect, nor has our historical execution of liberty been ideal, but the achievable dream of a more perfect union endures. I know this is off topic for Oregon sports and If I have annoyed anyone with my sappy message, I do apologize. Nevertheless: Happy Thanksgiving and best to all tomorrow. Go Ducks and Beat the Fuskys!

Rubbing Salt! Oregon Uniform Reveal Brings Back a Painful Memory for the Huskies...
Anyone else notice Akili Smith Jr. in the uniform reveal video, as they are showing clips of his dad’s TD pass to Patrick Johnson in Seattle? LOL.

'86 sounds about right. Chris Miller made a PERFECT throw to the East/South corner end zone, Verdun was in the PERFECT spot to receive. The ball hit him dead on the numbers, but it was the back of his jersey! All he had to do was turn around and catch the ball. He didn't turn around. Typical DUCK Luck back then.

It's UGLY: Candidates for Oregon State HC Keep Dropping-In-Droves
Rumor has it that next man up for Beavis, is head coach Joseph Smith? Not from the BYU Cougars, this Joe is the HC of the Linfield University Wildcats. 🤪 Linfield AD, and former MLB player, Scott Brosius, promises to use some of his and/or Pat McAfee's $$$ to match the offer from Beavis and keep Joe mellow in McMinnville. My confidential sources tell me that Joe's Agent, Jimmy GPS, Jimmy Sexton's 4th cousin twice removed, has told Brosius he wants a deal done for Smitty before the next millennium. Makes sense. No one, including John Canzano, wants Beavis in coaching purgatory beyond 2099. In other big-time college football news, this Saturday, having dispatched Colby College, Bowdoin College will try to master Bates College. 😁

Didn’t the ball hit him in the face mask? In my opinion, Chris Miller era marked the start of Oregon’s rise from the ashes. We had good starters in those years, but no depth.

I believe it was 1986...Oregon is trying to make a last ditch comeback, and on 4th down--Chris Miller fires to an open receiver who does not even see the ball. (Zeth Verdun)

UO-UW Rivalry Memories...
With all the noise about the Ducks/Huskies this week, I got to thinking about some of the more obscure games over the years. This was the biggest game all season for most of the years I've been paying attention, since 1975. We all know about The Pick, but it wouldn't have been as big a deal if it hadn't been for all those heartbreaking losses in the 70's and 80's. The one that comes to mind had to do with a player named Zeth Verdun. Anyone remember that game?

It's UGLY: Candidates for Oregon State HC Keep Dropping-In-Droves
As reported by John Canzano...the North Dakota State HC dropped out, then the HC at Montana State just stepped away. After their disaster with Trent Bray, who had never been a HC...they wanted someone with Head Coach experience. So they invited Justin Wilcox to interview, he did, and now that avenue dried up. All they have left is an unproven assistant at Alabama? Poor Beavis...

Oregon - Washington Pre-Game Reports, Interviews, Etc.
Oregon vs. Washington Series History: 118th matchup on Saturday In just their second year in the Big Ten, the Oregon Ducks haven't had many games in 2025 in which the words "hatred" or "bitter" could be used to describe the matchup. Sure, the in-state rival Oregon State Beaverscame to Autzen Stadium in Week 4, but the state of their program (2-9 heading into their season-finale) is less than inspiring and the Ducks were heavy favorites anyways.

Coaching Carousels
I sure hope not. When Dan Lanning hired Samples, almost everyone had serious doubts (except for the fact that DL is a trustworthy head hunter). Now no one in the family doubts Samples. He has been awesome in every way. Samples is Oregon's assistant head coach. When Dan Lanning retires in another 50 years or so, Samples should be ready to take over. 😁

Coaching Carousels
With JMU in the hunt for the G6 12th seed, I think Chesney will wait until he knows whether JMU is in or out. I have no idea, based on performance, why anyone thinks Kiffin is worth $14 million a season. More than Kirby Smart, Ryan Day, and Dabo, who have won championships. Kiffen had Ole Miss on the cusp of the PO last season, and his team choked at Florida. This season, Ole Miss had the SEC's 5th easiest conference schedule and played dog meat out of conference. Kiffin won a conference championship at G5 FAU, and that's it. He is not a great recruiter. His rosters at Ole Miss have been built on players from the portal. With Kiffin noting in his pre-Egg Bowl press conference that today's players care about money and not who their coach is, I think he's off to Florida or LSU. Don't blame me for leaving. If the players don't care about who is coaching them, why should I stick around Oxford town?🤬 The Ole Miss AD has said the program will match any salary offers. If he's smart, which is debatable, he'll stick around. He'll have a two-year haven't won a Natty yet grace period at LSU and perhaps three years at Florida. I believe better coaches will be hired for less money. Including Tulane coach Jon Sumrall, who will be hired to replace Kiffin if Lane heads down the lane. 😁
